Dear Friends- Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday. Where has 2017 gone? Despite Thanksgiving, the Christmas Season is already here. Mass on Thanksgiving will be at 10am. Please bring your bread and wine to this Mass to be blessed for your Thanksgiving dinner. A collection will be taken up at this Mass for SVDP and Helping Hands as they begin their Christmas Outreach program. Beginning December 3rd, the 12 Noon Spanish Mass will be moved to 12:30. This will allow Father Juan a bit more travel time from West Marin. Again, ypou were very generous in your response to the Wine Country Fires. A couple of Monday nights ago, the members of our JPC spent many hours sorting and packing clothes for the fire victims. Thank you JPC! Our Reli-
gious Education students raised $3,300 for the Fire Victims. Thank you, kids! As a Parish, we collected $1200 in gift cards in the immediate aftermath of the event as well as hundreds of pounds of clothes. We used our kitchen to cook over 2000 meals which were sent out to the local shelters as well as to first responders on the fire lines. Thank you Stephanie Tyson and your crew of volunteers! This past weekend we raised $8,629 for the Fire Victims. Thank you, OLL! Have I told you that you are a good and generous people? The only negative was that some peo-ple “donated” dirty, torn and unusable clothing which were immediately thrown away. What is the maxim: “Treat others like you would like to be treated.” I would like to thank Sister Jeanette and her crew for our annual Memorial Mass held on November 5th. After the Mass, woman told me she drove 5 hours to get here so that she could honor her deceased father. Thank you, Sister Jeanette!!! Since my last letter, 26 people were killed and 20 wounded in the Texas Church Shooting. Half of the dead were children! Hard to be-lieve that we are no longer safe even as we gather for Sunday Worship. When are we as a Church and as a Nation going to do something about guns and people owning guns who have mental health issues? The sad thing about all of these tragedies is that we are becoming numb to them. Toni Basich, a long time member of this parish and a very active member of Catholic Daughters, is moving to Petaluma. Good luck in your new digs, Toni. I will miss you and all the energy you brought to OLL. Congratulations to our Halloween Costume Winners: Ethan Vasquez (First Grade) and Ashley Tyson (Third Grade). One of our contest winners decided to share their one pound box of See’s Candy with their classmates. I’m reminded of a line from the prayer of St. Francis: “For it is in giving that we receive.” Good job! Happy Thanksgiving!
Here is an article from Dear Abby which I thought was good. I hope you do as well.
How’s your health? Not so good? Well, thank God you’ve lived this long. A lot of people haven’t. You’re hurting? Thousands— maybe millions are hurting more. (Have you ever visited a veteran’s hospital? Or a rehabilitation clinic for handicapped children?) If you awakened this morning and were able to hear the birds sing, use your vocal chords to utter human sounds, walk to the breakfast table on two good legs, and read the newspaper with two good eyes, praise the Lord! A lot of people couldn’t
How’s your pocketbook? Thin? Well, most of the living world is a lot poorer. No pensions. No welfare. No food stamps. No Social Security. In fact, one third of the people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight.
Are you lonely? The way to have a friend is to be one. If nobody calls you, call them. Go out of your way to do something nice for somebody. It’s a sure cure for the blues.
Are you concerned about your country’s future. Hooray! Our system has been saved by such concern. Concern for honesty in government, concern for peace, and concern for fair play under the law. Our country may not be a rose garden, but it is also not a patch of weeds. Freedom rings! Look and listen. You can still worship at the church of your choice, cast a secret ballot, and even criticize your government without fearing a knock on the head or a knock on the door at midnight. And if you want to live under a different sys-tem, you are free to go. There are no walls or fences, nothing to keep you here.
As a final thought, here is my Thanksgiving Prayer:
Heavenly Father: We thank you for food and remember the hungry. We thank you for friends and re-member the friendless. We thank you for freedom and remember the enslaved. May these remembrances stir us to service. That your gifts to us may be used for others.

--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM
SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for har-vesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week's scrip-tures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and in-vestment to describe the abun-dant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the
gifts we have been given brings eternal re-wards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he re-turns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns?
Amen
