WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNERS UPDATE

Dinners are taking a break for the summer, and will return in the fall. Stay tuned!

Major Projects at FUMC

The Board of Trustee and the Finance Committees would like to update the congregation on large projects that we have undertaken over the last few years. We have worked hard to spend FUMC funds wisely to complete some very large, expensive projects, some of which

have been updates/maintenance while others have been improvements/new ones.

The following projects have taken place from 2012 to present:

Nov. 2012 - Nov. 2013 Chapel Window Replacement $314,646.00

Dec. 2012 Main St. Roof Overhang Repair $26,514.00

Apr. 2013 Sanctuary Sound Board Replacement $15,176.00

Sept. - Nov. 2013 Pool Repair/New Liner $17,450.00

Mar. - May 2014 Sanctuary Tile Replacement $39,775.00

July 2014 Main St. Entry Door Replacement $25,530.00

Apr. - May 2015 Shades for Balcony Pool Side Windows $14,342.00

Apr. 2015 - Nov. 2016 Shrader Memorial Garden Renovation $62,017.00

Apr. 2015 New Sanctuary Pew Pads $25,781.00

Jun. 2015 - Jun. 2016 Main St. Handicap Ramp $29,243.00

Feb. - Apr. 2016 Wireless Microphone Upgrades $20,921.00

Jan. 2017 Hearth Rm/Little Theater Tile Replacement $11,830.00

Mar. - Apr. 2017 Sanctuary/Narthex Carpet Replacement $104,000.00

May - June 2017 Cooling Tower Replacement $22,000.00

Total: $706,248.00

Thank you to the congregation, whose contributions and special donations have allowed these projects to be funded. Without your financial support, we would not be able to undertake projects like these that keep our beautiful church building in great shape.

Almighty God, we give you thanks for the love and grace that allows us

to gather in worship this day. We are gathered as your children, whose

mortal life is but a breath, standing before you as the living, but also

gathered in spirit with the dead. We lift up thankful hearts for all those

whom You have blessed in our journey of life, whose lives have

empowered us, whose influence is a healing grace. We thank you for

dear friends and family members whose faces we see no more, but

whose love is with us forever; for the teachers and companions of our

childhood and youth and for the members of our household of faith who

worship you now in heaven. We thank you for those who sacrificed

themselves, our brothers and sisters who have given their lives for the

sake of others. We hold all of these in continual remembrance and ever

think of them with you in that city whose gates are not shut by day and

where there is no night. We dedicate ourselves to working for a world

where labor is rewarded, fear dispelled and the nations made one. Day

by day, we glorify you and worship your name forever and ever. Amen.

Midland First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund Guidelines

Upon recommendation of our church auditors, we have established the following guidelines for the disbursement of all memorial fund gifts to the church. The donor designates his/her gift to the church to one of the following five funds; the gift will be recorded on his/her contribution statement. The funds then will be spent by the appropriate group. The dedication of memorial gifts will occur annually and will include a list of all persons for whom memorials were given within each of the five areas. This will normally be on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

Please be aware of these guidelines as you make your memorial gifts to First United Methodist Church in memory of a loved one. Memorial Fund gift envelopes are located in the Plexiglas across from the reception desk. The five memorial funds are:

1. Facilities/Program/Operation The Facilities/Program/Operations Fund will be used to buy items needed to do ministries at the church. It could also be used in a variety of areas including, but not limited to: memorial garden or yard upkeep, maintenance or replacement of building items, church school items needed for our classrooms, altar cloths or other sanctuary items for worship. These expenditures would be approved by the memorial committee.

2. General Endowment Fund The General Endowment Fund – This money is placed in our General Endowment Fund, and the endowment committee annually gives to the Administrative Board the interest from this fund for the Board to spend on whatever it deems necessary that given year. This is a perpetual fund of which the principle is never spent, only the earnings.

3. Missions The Missions Fund would be spent on a variety of mission projects as determined by the missions committee.

4. Music The Music Fund would be spent on a variety of music ministries as determined by the worship committee.

5. Scholarship Endowment The Scholarship Endowment – This money is placed in our Scholarship Endowment, and the scholarships would be awarded annually by the education committee per their established policy.

LISTEN TO HIS CALL

Take a moment and look around at how many volunteers are

making your Sunday Worship time happen: Greeters, Ushers,

Musicians, Vocalists, Counters, Video and Sound Technicians, Adult

Sunday School Leaders, Children’s Program Leaders, Child Care

Workers, Coffee Fellowship Servers, Sunday Friendship Lunch

servers, those who take care of the altar flowers before and after

services, and for those times we serve communion, the elements

are prepared by members of the congregation. That is just for

Sunday worship. Now think about our ministries and work areas…

We are experiencing a continual challenge in the number and

diversity of people willing to serve in our ministries and work areas.

Without these, this church is nothing more than a building. Coffee

Fellowship, Sunday Friendship Lunch, Vacation Bible School,

Hospitality, Bereavement Committee, Lay Visitation, are just a few

of the areas that are feeling the wear and tear of relying on the

same few to do the work of many.

Every time we receive new members to our church, we make this

declaration: “we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the

ministries of the church, by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, and

our service.”

The key words here are “and our service.” I challenge you to think

about your time commitments and priorities. Where is God calling

you to serve in this church? We all lead busy lives and feel pulled in

many directions, but without commitment of service, our ministries

and work areas will need to re-evaluate what they can offer you

and the community.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration and listening to God’s

call to you.

Noel Contardi

Director of Volunteer Ministries
