WELCOME FR. MICHAL WYRZYKOWSKI TO OUR FAITH
Today, our new associate pastor and newly‐ordained priest, Fr. Michal Wyrzykowski celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving for the gift of priesthood at 10:15AM bi‐lingual Mass. Fr. Michal was ordained by Francis Cardinal George on Saturday, May 17 at Holy Name Cathedral. He celebrated his first Mass at his home parish, Holy Trinity Polish Mission in Chicago on Sunday, May 18. Fr. Michal’s assignment as our new associate pastor will begin on July 1. It is with great joy to congratulate and welcome Fr. Michal to our community! God’s blessings be upon you as you walk the journey of life in the Holy Priesthood of Christ. May He who called you‐ strengthen you, guide you and protect you all the days of your Priestly life. May you be enlightened by the Holy Spirit granted many God’s blessings as you begin this most holy and devoted ministry of the priesthood. Be assured our prayers will follow you. God Bless you!
Totus Tuus is a Catholic summer youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel through catechesis, Christian witness, Eucharistic worship, and Marian devotion. The goal of Totus Tuus is to help young people grow in their faith in Jesus Christ and have fun in the process Totus Tuus is coming to a parish near you! SUMMER SCRIPTURE SEMINAR June 22 – 27, 2014 in Mundelein This year’s theme is Conquest and Kingship: Leadership in Joshua, Judges, 1‐2 Samuel, and 1‐2 Kings. It’s what scholars call “The Deuteronomicistic History.” The week will focus on Israel’s past ‐ specifically of the possession and loss of the land and the rise & fall of the monarchy. Our scholars include Fr. Leslie Hoppe, Fr. Larry Hennessey, Rabbi Michael Balinsky, Gina Hens‐Piazza and Fr. Robert Barron. Attendees may commute or stay overnight and can choose to come for individual days or the entire sem‐inar. The best way to enjoy the program is to stay for the week from Sunday evening through Friday morning to experience the rhythm of prayer, study and relaxation with the Mundelein community. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Saturday, June 7
All sick and elderly parishioners are invited to the Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick which will be cele‐brated in our church on SATURDAY, June 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Before the Mass at 9:30 AM the priests will be available for the Sacrament of Penance. Family members, friends and neighbors are kindly asked to assist anyone who might bene‐fit from the Sacrament with transportation to our church. Anointing of the Sick The anointing of the sick is administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness. It is a rite that is performed to convey God’s grace to the recipient, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Does God Always Heal? Today some Christians go to extremes in their expectation of divine healing. God does not always heal the physical infirmi‐ties that afflict us. Of course, our healing, like all things, is subject to God’s will. As James pointed out just a chapter earlier, "You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then van‐ishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that’" (Jas. 4:14) We have a promise of healing, but not an unqualified one. It is conditional on the will of God. The Value of Suffering Even though we must face a certain amount of suffering and affliction in this life, we know God’s grace is sufficient to sus‐tain us. All of God’s graces, including physical health, are be‐stowed to lead to the salvation of our souls. God also uses our suffering to help others. If Paul had not become ill while on his first missionary journey and been forced to stop travel‐ing, he would not have preached to the Galatians, for he tells them, "You know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first" (Gal. 4:13). If he had not preached to the Galatians, he would not have later written them the epistle that appears in our New Testament. God used Paul’s illness to bring salvation to the Galatians and to bring us a work of Scripture, through which we are still re‐ceiving benefits from God. This is just one example of how God used suffering to bring about good. Therefore, if we suf‐fer, we should look upon it as an opportunity for good, such as by offering up our sufferings for our own sanctification and for our departed brothers and sisters in Christ.

Mercy Home for Boys & Girls: Summer Openings in our Residential Programs! As many of our young people successfully graduate from our programs at the end of the school year, this creates a unique opportunity for a new group of young people to enter our residential programs to get the therapeutic, academic and daily support needed to succeed in life. Specifically, we have openings for youth (junior high ‐ girls and boys) between ages of 11‐14. Mercy Home for Boys & Girls has 14 specialized residential program to serve the needs of youth between the ages of 11 to 21. Each child is placed in one of these residential programs based on their age and level of emotional and developmental needs. Because it is a voluntary placement, each youth must be motivated to live at Mercy Home and attend a community school. However, parental support throughout a young person’s stay is critical for her or his successes. We care for youth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in a facility that is not lockeddown. We help each child develop an individualized success plan that will guide their progress through our continuum‐of‐care. As they make progress against their success plans by meeting the goals and objectives we help them create, youth continue to advance through our residential program. For youth under eighteen years of age, a parent or legal guardian must make the referral. Youth 18+ can call us on their own. For more information about Mercy

Przed Mszą św. od godz. 9:30 rano będzie możliwość skorzystania z Sakramentu Spowiedzi św. Bardzo prosimy o wsparcie i udzielenie pomocy członkom naszych rodzin, znajomym lub sąsiadom, którzy mają trudność z dojazdem do naszej parafii, aby mogli w pełni skorzystać z tego ważnego dla nich Sakramentu.
WITAMY KS. MICHAŁA WYRZYKOWSKIEGO W dniu dzisiejszym ks. Neoprezbiter Michał Wyrzykowski odprawił w naszym kościele Dziękczynną Mszę Świętą za dar Chrystusowego Kapłaństwa. Święcenia kapłańskie przyjął w sobotę, 17 maja z rąk Jego Eminencji ks. Kardynała Francis George’a, a w niedzielę, 18 maja odprawił Mszę św. Prymicyjną w swojej parafii kościele św. Trójcy w Chicago. Z dniem 1 lipca, ks. Michał rozpocznie pracę duszpasterską jako wikariusz w naszej parafii z czego wyrażamy ogromną radość! Jako wspólnota wiernych zgromadzona przy tutejszym kościele św. Ferdynanda życzymy Ci Księże Michale, byś przez całe swoje życie podążał z ufnością i nadzieją za Panem. Wszystko, co robisz, czyń z młodzieńczą pasją. Niech Duch Święty nieustannie Cię prowadzi i umacnia, a Matka Najswietsza ma Cię w swojej opiece. Niech Bóg patrzy zawsze na Twoje serce z upodobaniem, a ludzie idą za Tobą z ufnością, radością i ochotą. Dbaj o swoją świętość, bo z niej wypływa cała siła do pracy duszpasterskiej i pracy z drugim człowiekiem. Ciesz się ze spotkań z ludźmi, a Twoje serce niech przepełnia miłość, którą podzielisz się z potrzebującymi. Pielęgnuj w sobie uśmiech i nie zatrać nigdy radości z wybranej drogi. Staraj się słuchać Boga, a On ukaże Prawdę oraz umocni i obdarzy swoim błogosławieństwem. Szczęść Boże!

Drodzy Przyjaciele, Pragniemy zaprosić Was wszystkich na X Lednickie Spotkanie Młodych. Zgromadzimy się na placu w parafii Świętej Rozalii przy 4401 N. Oak Park Ave. w Harwood Heights, IL., w sobotę, 14 czerwca, 2014. Hasłem Lednickiego Spotkania Młodych 2014 jest „W Imię Syna”. Rok 2014 jest rokiem wyjątkowym. Inicjator i patron Lednicy, Jan Paweł II został ogłoszony Świętym. Podczas Spotkania przemówi do nas Papież Franciszek w swoim przesłaniu do Lednicy 2014 i udzieli nam swojego błogosłwieństwa. Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Pasterz Archidiecezji Chicago, planuje zaszczycić nas swoją obecnością i przewodniczyć Mszy Świętej. Ksiądz Biskup Andrzej P. Wypych jako ojciec duchowy Lednicy i Polonii Chicago poprowadzi całość spotkania. Wspólna Eucharystia będzie główną częścią programu. Jak co roku dokonamy Wyboru Chrystusa na swego Pana i Zbawiciela. Uczcimy Pana Jezusa w Adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu. Na zakończenie Spotkania wszyscy uczestnicy przejdą przez bramę w kształcie Ryby, symbolicznie przekraczając próg Trzeciego Tysiąclecia, wybierając Chrystusa. Nie zabraknie również tańcow lednickich! ON ONE ASCENSION, AND FOUR WRITERS’ PERSPECTIVES Copyright 2014 by John B. Reynolds ([email protected])
The Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord a few days ago on Thursday, but many parishes use the readings from Ascension Thursday today (technically, the Sev‐enth Sunday of Easter, one week until Pentecost) as well. While the readings for the Seventh Sunday of Easter are rich‐‐including from the Evangelist John our Lord’s lengthy and deeply personal prayer to his Father on the night before taking the nails for all of us‐‐I’m focusing instead today on the Ascension readings, and mostly because I just stumbled upon something I never realized before. Today’s Gospel is taken from the Evangelist Matthew, and in this reading‐‐the very reading that the Church used on Ascension Thursday and the very reading that the Church is sug‐gesting today to replace John’s passage referenced above‐‐Matthew doesn’t once mention Christ being lifted into heaven. No clouds. No people gazing upward. No ascension verbiage at all. Nothing. Mark? While he doesn’t dwell on Christ’s ascension, he still speaks to it: “So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them (the Eleven), was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God.” John? He addresses it obliquely when he writes of Christ’s appearance to Mary Magdalene and she realizes he is the Lord: “Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father…’” and Luke? Just as he was all over the Nativity, Luke is all over the Ascension, both in his Gospel (“Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands and blessed them. As he
blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven”) and again in Acts [“When he had said this (‘you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…’), as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, two men dressed in white garments stood beside them…”). We can always count on Luke for significant detail. But Matthew? Like I said: nothing. Matthew’s entire Gospel winds down with the Resurrection of Jesus, the Report of the Guard (about the empty tomb), and finally today’s reading, the Commissioning of the Disciples: “The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshipped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, ‘All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.’” See? Not one word of Ascension. Still, maybe Matthew’s non‐account of the event is the most impor‐tant of all because he prioritizes the question put to the crowd by those two guys in white: “Men of Galilee, why are you stand‐ing there looking at the sky?” And these Godly messengers seem to be reiterating Christ’s own message from today’s Ascension Thursday Gospel: Don’t just stand there. BAPTISM:
For Children: a pre-Baptism class is required for Baptism of the first child. Classes are held in English on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church, and in Polish on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church. Following registration, the sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in English on the second Saturday each month at 6:00PM and on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:30PM Mass. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in Polish on the first Saturday of the month at 6:00PM and on the third Sunday of the month at the 3:00PM Mass.
