    Text Set for Diversity

    Focal Book for the assignment:

Hall, Bruce E. Henry and the Kite Dragon. New York: Philomel Books, 2004.

    Grade Level: 3.5

Information in Regards to the Texts:

I had no experience creating a text set, prior to this one. Because I could not decide on a

place to begin locating the books for this particular assignment, I started at the Teaching

Resources Center in Joyner Library. At first I felt a little overwhelmed, simply because I did not

know where to begin looking. With the help of Mrs. Earley-Thiele, I was guided in the right

direction. After explaining that I needed help finding books relating to diversity, she led me to a

small stand in the middle of the TRC. There, I found a variety of packets, categorized by subject.

In these packets, were the lists off all the books the library had relating to that subject.

Needless to say, I had hit the jackpot.

I located almost every book in the library that had been listed in the packet, and

narrowed down my selection to four different texts; two of my books are fiction, one is

historical fiction, and one is a graphic novel. All of the books that I have chosen offer some

insight in to the diversity of different cultures. All of which, of course, were found in the Joyner

    Library.
