WELCOME

Sentence of the Day

Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it.

Mark 8.35

Page 3: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

OPENING HYMN

Page 4: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Behold the lamb who bears our sins away

Slain for us-and we remember the promise made that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this bread of life,

and we drink of his sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of peace

around the table of the King

Page 5: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

The body of our Saviour Jesus Christ, torn for you-eat and

remember; the wounds that heal,

the death that brings us life paid the price to make us one.

So we share in this bread of life, and we drink of his sacrifice as a

sign of our bonds of love around the table of the King.

Page 6: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, shed for you-drink and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in to receive the

life of God. So we share in this bread of life, and we drink of his sacrifice as a sign of our bonds of grace around

the table of the King.

Page 7: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

And so with thank-ful-ness and faith we rise to respond- and to remember our call to follow in the steps of Christ

as His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, we

proclaim Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heav’n around

the table of the King.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22.37–40, Mark 12.30–31

Let us pray.

Almighty God,to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our heartsby the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING

Page 13: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Psalm 19 Page 239

Page 14: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

1 The heavens declare the glory of God:and the firmament proclaims his handiwork;

2 One day tells it to another:and night to night communicates knowledge.

3 There is no speech or language:nor are their voices heard;

4 Yet their sound has gone out through all the world:

and their words to the ends of the earth.

Page 15: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

5 There he has pitched a tent for the sun:which comes out as a bridegroom from his chamber, and rejoices like a strong man to run his course.

6 Its rising is at one end of the heavens, and its circuit to their farthest bound:

and nothing is hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul:

the command of the Lord is true, and makes wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart:

Page 16: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

the commandment of the Lord is pure, and gives light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and endures for ever:

the judgements of the Lord are unchanging, and righteous every one.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold:

sweeter also than honey, than the honey that drips from the comb.

11 Moreover, by them is your servant taught:and in keeping them there is great reward.

Page 17: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

12 Who can know their own unwitting sins?:O cleanse me from my secret faults.

13 Keep your servant also from presumptuous sins, lest they get the mastery over me:

so I shall be clean, and innocent of great offence.

14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight:

O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

HYMN BEFORE THE GOSPEL

Page 20: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Be still my soul: the Lord is on your side;bear patiently the cross of grief and pain;leave to your God to order and provide;in every change he faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend

through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Page 21: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Be still, my soul: your God will undertaketo guide the future as he has the past.

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last.

Be still, my soul: the tempests still obey his voice, who ruled them once on Galilee.

Page 22: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Be still , my soul: when dearest friends depart and all is

darkened in the vale of tears, then you shall better know his love, his heart, who comes to soothe your

sorrow, calm your fears.Be still, my soul: for Jesus can restorethe trust and hope that strengthened

you before.

Page 23: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening onwhen we shall be for ever with the Lord,

when disappointment, grief and fearare gone, sorrow forgotten,

love’s pure joy restored.Be still, my soul:

when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ,

God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;he descended to the dead.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Page 27: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

On the third day he rose from the dead;he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand

of the Father;from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

has promised that you will hear us when we ask in faith: receive the prayers

we offer.

Page 29: Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the gospel will save it. Mark 8.35

Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
