Thunderstorm Lightning TrackingSoftware LTS2005
In discharge display mode, the individual lightning locations are shown as + or - for identifying positive ornegative polarity and are color coded in time intervals. The marker size can be adjusted to represent the event'samplitude in kiloamps (kA).
Features
• Live looping with new lightninglocations updated during eachloop
• E-mail warnings and all clears
• Create multiple warning areas ofany size or shape
• Displays stroke or flash cloud-to-ground lightning data
• Displays cloud data whereavailable
• Forecasted cell locations shown incell display mode
• Audible, visual, and e-mailwarnings when alarm conditionsare met
• Return to normal state and all-clear e-mail sent when alarmconditions expire
Vaisala Thunderstorm Lightning Tracking Software LTS2005 displays real-timelightning in easy-to-use formats for monitoring thunderstorm cell development, assessing severity, and forecasting storm path and intensity. LTS2005 issues audible, visual and e-mail warnings and all clears.
Benefits
• Customization of map layers
• Query individual lightning events
• Import map files compatible withMapInfoâ
• Easily define and modify areas
• Create .avi files for review ofhistoric lightning
• Password protected systemsettings
• Optional ASCII output for use inother programs
• Optional automatic image capture/save
• Ability to use corporate logo
Nowcasting and WarningApplicationsLTS2005 is designed for operationsresponsible for accurate forecasting andnowcasting over large areas rangingfrom several hundred to thousands ofsquare kilometers:
• Meteorological andhydrometeorological agencies
• Air traffic management
• Electric power companies
• Forestry and land managementagencies
• International airports
• Telecommunications networks
• Defense
LTS2005 is also appropriate for smalleroperations focused on lightning riskmanagement.
Easy-to-interpret display modes, systemsettings, warning area definitions, andonline help files can be handled byoperators who are not trained asmeteorologists.

In density display mode, storm intensity can be assessed by mapping thelightning density. Warning areas can be created in any size or shape.
In cell display mode, LTS2005 estimates the contours of cells based on lightningactivity. The forecasted locations of the cells can be shown for continuousassessment.

Cloud-to-ground lightning data from Vaisala U.S. National Lightning DetectionNetworkâ is used by weather forecasters and operations managers to closelymonitor thunderstorm development, strength, and paths for more accuratesevere weather forecasting and for issuing warnings. Since 1989, the NLDN hasreported more than 300 million lightning discharges (cloud-to-ground andcloud-to-cloud) that occur every year, creating a comprehensive archive oflightning data used for statistical and forensic analysis.
