Going: Good to Soft (Good in places)

Ludlow is a sharp, right-handed, oval track, with a nine-fence chase circuit about a mile and a half and a run-in of 250 yards, which requires riders to steer left after the last to avoid taking the wrong course. Probably on account of so may races being well run, the fences claim far more casualties than might be expected, Ludlow sitting comfortably inside the top half dozen courses for fallers and unseats. The hurdle course, which runs on the outside of the chase course, has easier turns. Whereas the chase course is flat, the hurdle course has slight undulations but they rarely provide difficulties for a long-striding horse.

Pace Information: Insufficient Data

1 DOBRYN (FR) (50) (D) 87141 5 11-8 | 73.5kg Sam Thomas Sam Twiston-Davies Ready winner of a Hereford bumper on debut in October. Fourth under a penalty at Sedgefield before making a successful start to his hurdling career at Plumpton (15.9f). Open to improvement.

2 QUALISMART (FR) (92) h 10013 5 11-8 | 73.5kg Harry Whittington Gavin Sheehan Strong in betting when making an impressive winning start in a maiden hurdle at Market Rasen. Far too keen at Haydock, though spared a hard race and remains with potential back from a break. Hood on.

3 AN TAILLIUR (FR) (14) 79776 5 11-2 | 70.8kg Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Well held in a bumper/novice hurdles in recent months. Handicaps presumably up after this.

4 BLUE BEIRUT (IRE) (8) 7085 5 11-2 | 70.8kg Sarah-Jayne Davies William Kennedy Modest maiden on Flat and hasn’t gone with much promise either start over hurdles.

5 DELAHAYE GOLD (IRE) (18) 700P 5 11-2 | 70.8kg Ben Pauling Thomas Garner Well held sole outing in bumpers and showed nothing when pulled up on Exeter hurdling debut 11 weeks later.

6 GAMALOU D’ALENE (FR) (92) 8055 5 11-2 | 70.8kg

Nigel Twiston-Davies Tom Bellamy Unsuited by the emphasis on speed sole start in bumpers and similar story when fifth of 13 in claiming hurdle over C&D in December. Open to improvement.

7 GERARD MENTOR (FR) (100) 8028 5 11-2 | 70.8kg Kim Bailey David Bass Produced a promising first effort when runner-up to Dobryn in a Hereford bumper in October, but was readily brushed aside over 2f out at Southwell a month later. Hurdles debut.

8 JAUNTY EXPRESS (112) 798 5 11-2 | 70.8kg Brian Eckley Robert Dunne Yorgunnabelucky gelding. Half-brother to fair 19f hurdle winner Jaunty Soria. Looked one for later on when comfortably held in a C&D bumper on debut in November.

9 QUINTA DO MAR (IRE) (64) 889-3 6 11-2 | 70.8kg Ben Pauling Nico de Boinville Successful in point bumper. Well held in an Aintree bumper for Philip Rowley but much more like it switched to hurdles for new yard when a close third at Market Rasen 64 days ago. May do better.

10 REVERSE SWEEP (IRE) 80 5 11-2 | 70.8kg D. J. Jeffreys Jonathan Burke Beat Hollow gelding. Dam (c87/h71), 2½m/2¾m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2¾m) Harrycat. Market should point the way.

11 SENDHERVICTORIA’S (IRE) (17) 707-FP0 6 11-2 | 70.8kg Venetia Williams Charlie Deutsch Well beaten in bumper/completed start over hurdles.

12 ALUNA QUARTZ (10) 60P 5 10-9 | 67.6kg Katy Price Ben Poste Has an unappealing pedigree and showed nothing when pulled up at Southwell on debut 10 days ago.

13 MISS GOLD DEN (IRE) (11) 793556 6 10-9 | 67.6kg Olly Murphy David England Has a good pedigree but looks one for handicaps over further after this.

14 BRAVO FAISAL (IRE) 79 4 10-8 | 67.1kg Adam West Lee Edwards Fairly useful miler at best on Flat, but down the field both starts this year and stamina to prove now going hurdling.

15 MR YEATS (IRE) (23) 7000 4 10-8 | 67.1kg Milton Harris Kevin Jones (3lb/1kg) Well beaten in a pair of bumpers.

16 LITTLE TIPSY (31) 75550 4 10-1 | 64.0kg Adam West Richard Patrick Modest maiden on Flat and little impact in a pair of juvenile hurdles.

BETTING FORECAST:11-8 Qualismart, 4-1 Quinta Do Mar, 9-2 Dobryn, 18-1 Gerard Mentor, 20-1 Gamalou D’alene, 28-1 Reverse Sweep, 40-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:QUALISMART proved far too keen at Haydock in December, but is well worth another chance to get back on track having created an excellent impression when scoring in a good time at Market Rasen on debut. Quinta Do Mar’s Market Rasen effort is also backed up by a respectable timefigure, so he’s second choice ahead of Dobryn, who shoulders a penalty for his Plumpton success.

Pace Information: Very Weak

1 GAELIK COAST (FR) (26) (D) 995/611-1251 7 11-9 | 73.9kg Donald McCain Brian Hughes Has quickly bettered his successful hurdles form over fences this season, resuming winning ways in Musselburgh novice upped to this trip last month, jumping well. Big shout again back in handicap.

2 ADJALI (GER) (23) 992374/60-P4 6 11-7 | 73.0kg

Nicky Henderson Daryl Jacob Smart juvenile hurdler a couple of years back. Things haven’t gone to plan in light career since, though his latest jumpers’ bumper effort after a wind op was a step back in the right direction.

3 FLASHING GLANCE (21) (C, D) 9215P-21167 8 11-7 | 73.0kg

Tom Lacey Jonathan Burke Improved again to win a couple of handicap hurdles around this trip in the autumn and should have come on for last month’s return in jumpers’ bumper. Remains unexposed over fences.

4 BLACK KALANISI (IRE) (55) (D, BF) 10012/5-U3141 8 11-2 | 70.8kg Joseph Tuite Paul O’Brien (3lb/1kg) Done well under both codes, winning 3-runner chase at Plumpton in November and jumpers’ bumper in January. Good run on the level latest and clear chance back over fences.

5 BROKEN QUEST (IRE) (28) (C, D) t 99114 9 11-0 | 69.9kg Matt Sheppard Sam Twiston-Davies Fine strike rate in handicap hurdles, successful again in the mud here and at Taunton (3m) in December. Not so good faced with a lesser test at Wincanton 4 weeks ago but respected now sent chasing.

5 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Gaelik Coast, 7-2 Adjali, 4-1 Black Kalanisi, 5-1 Broken Quest, 11-2 Flashing Glance

TIMEFORM VIEW:Useful hurdler FLASHING GLANCE may have more to offer over fences and on the back of a first run in 3 months in a jumpers bumper he could be the way to go. None of the other quartet can be ruled out, with Broken Quest, who is 5-8 in handicap hurdles, particularly interesting now sent chasing.

1 AIMEE DE SIVOLA (FR) (15) 888/12353-84 7 11-12 | 75.3kg

Nick Williams Chester Williams (5lb/2kg) Ended last season with a third in Doncaster listed but not close to that level in 2 handicaps this time round. Bounce back called for.

2 DIDONATO (IRE) (96) 93443-21 6 11-12 | 75.3kg Alan King Tom Bellamy Made the frame in all 3 bumpers last term and has made a promising start over hurdles, building on Huntingdon second when going one better at Doncaster (19.5f). more to come now stepping up to 3m.

3 WINTER GETAWAY (IRE) (93) 941136-343P 8 11-9 | 73.9kg Philip Hobbs Tom O’Brien Won twice over hurdles last term. Not close to that level in 4 chase starts this season but on a favourable mark on the best of her hurdles form.

4 MISTY BLOOM (IRE) (52) 98050-6P836 8 11-8 | 73.5kg

Emma Lavelle Ben Jones (3lb/1kg) Dual winner last season who returned to form when third at Sandown (2½m) in December but not in anything like the same form at Doncaster since. Up in trip.

5 PRINTING DOLLARS (IRE) (21) 100508P-6447 8 11-7 | 73.0kg Warren Greatrex Gavin Sheehan Fairly useful hurdler but hasn’t been seeing her races out so far this season. Midfield in jumpers bumper latest. Others more obvious.

6 BOURBON BEAUTY (63) 923533-4213 6 11-6 | 72.6kg Alex Hales Harry Bannister Gamely opened her account over hurdles in 21f novice at Kelso (heavy) in December. Possibly found run coming too soon when remote third latest that month and freshened up ahead of switch to handicaps.

7 EASTER GOLD (FR) (52) b 907/42125-6P 7 11-2 | 70.8kg

Lucy Wadham Bryony Frost Landed the odds in mares’ maiden hurdle at Lingfield last January, pulling up at Doncaster last time. Blinkers go on for the first time now.

8 WILDE SPIRIT (IRE) (42) s 982P33-2642 7 10-13 | 69.4kg Henry Daly Richard Patrick Record stands at 0-16 but there is a race in her and she knows her way round her, finishing second over C&D last time. Likely to be in the shake-up again.

9 COILLTE EILE (IRE) (42) (D) 97899-45356 8 10-12 | 68.9kg Fergal O’Brien Liam Harrison (7lb/3kg) Fair start for this yard when third at Ascot (23.5f) in November but not in the same form twice since. Others more obvious.

10 FALLY JEM (FR) (7) b 950/6485-674 6 10-11 | 68.5kg Venetia Williams Charlie Deutsch Won over fences/hurdles in France but well held all 4 starts for this stable. Refitting of the blinkers she regularly wore in France needs to transform her.

10 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:100-30 Didonato, 6-1 Winter Getaway, 13-2 Wilde Spirit, 7-1 Bourbon Beauty, 12-1 Printing Dollars, 12-1 Misty Bloom, 12-1 Aimee De Sivola, 14-1 Coillte Eile, 16-1 Easter Gold, 22-1 Fally Jem

TIMEFORM VIEW:A chance is taken on WINTER GETAWAY as she is well treated if a return to hurdles sparks her back to life. Didonato’s opening handicap mark isn’t obviously generous but she likely has more to offer now moving up to 3m. Wilde Spirit should also have a part to play.

1 VALTOR (FR) (61) (D) 900/1532-068 12 12-0 | 76.2kg

Nicky Henderson Daryl Jacob Couple of good efforts last term and went with more encouragement than the result implies on his reappearance. Unable to build on that twice since but mark is easing.

2 WANDRIN STAR (IRE) (68) (D) t 96356/189-26 10 11-12 | 75.3kg Kim Bailey David Bass Enhanced good record fresh when runner-up on first start following a wind op at Ascot in November. In nothing like the same form in the Rowland Merrick a month later.

3 CHAMPAGNE MYSTERY (IRE) (26) 10022/122P-FP 7 11-7 | 73.0kg

Nicky Henderson Nico de Boinville Wide-margin winner on chasing debut at Aintree (19.9f) last season but unable to build on that thereafter. Fell early after wind op in Caspian Caviar Gold Cup on return and then pulled up at Sandown.

4 ROCCO (IRE) (54) 98F132P-528 8 11-3 | 71.2kg

Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies Fairly useful hurdler/chaser who ran as well as he ever has when hitting the crossbar at Kempton (20.5f) in November. Failed to go with any fluency despite being upped to 3m at that venue latest.

5 READY AND ABLE (IRE) (42) (D) 9744133-69F 8 11-1 | 70.3kg Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Useful hurdler at best and also won 3-runner novice chase in July 2019. Heavy defeats completed starts this season raises questions, however.

6 CALIPSO COLLONGES (FR) (26) (D) t 9626/462-4P3 9 11-0 | 69.9kg Olly Murphy Fergus Gregory (3lb/1kg) Just one win to his name over fences. Sets a couple of stiff tasks during the turn of the year and offered more eased slightly in class when third at Sandown a month ago.

7 AS YOU LIKE (IRE) (14) (D) 911260P48P 10 10-13 | 69.4kg Jonjo O’Neill Richie McLernon Tends to peak during the summer, as he did last year when adding to his tally at Southwell in July. Little impact on last 6 starts but drying ground will help his cause.

8 HEAD TO THE STARS (28) (CD) 893F261-PPP 10 10-11 | 68.5kg Henry Daly Tom O’Brien Landed this race a year ago and now finds himself 1 lb lower in the weights but that’s but that’s courtesy of 3 heavy defeats so far this season.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:4-1 Valtor, 9-2 Rocco, 5-1 Champagne Mystery, 6-1 Calipso Collonges, 7-1 Wandrin Star, 8-1 Ready And Able, 16-1 As You Like, 16-1 Head To The Stars

TIMEFORM VIEW:Working out which of these will be on a ‘going day’ is no easy assignment, with CHAMPAGNE MYSTERY getting the very tentative vote up in trip. Calipso Collonges and Rocco are potential threats.

Pace Information: Even

1 TOOK THE LOT (33) 96137-2118P 7 11-12 | 75.3kg

Nigel Twiston-Davies Sam Twiston-Davies Bumper winner who confirmed promise of hurdling debut when easily winning a couple of novice events at Bangor (19.5f) in November. Not up to Graded events last twice but more chance now handicapping.

2 GLORY AND HONOUR (IRE) (43) (BF) 9622113 5 11-11 | 74.8kg Tom Lacey Jonathan Burke Point winner who got off the mark over hurdles at second time of asking in November. Arrives on back of a win and second in jumpers bumpers in January. More to come in handicaps.

3 SWITCH HITTER (IRE) (68) (D) 975-218 6 11-11 | 74.8kg

Paul Nicholls Bryony Frost Point winner who struck at second time of asking over hurdles when seeing off a subsequent winner in 21f Kempton novice in November. Well held in handicap there over Christmas but retains potential.

4 ROYAL PRETENDER (FR) (21) 9764331 5 11-10 | 74.4kg Alan King Tom Bellamy Promise first 2 starts in maiden hurdles in the autumn. Tame display at Doncaster in January but bounced back with a jumpers bumper win last month. Respected.

5 AQUILA SKY (IRE) (43) t 100984-7337 6 11-0 | 69.9kg Sam Allwood Robert Dunne Improved when placed in first 2 handicaps and possibly unsuited by very testing ground when well held at Newbury last time. Worth another chance.

6 PRESENTEDWITHWINGS (IRE) (68) 993/4140 7 10-11 | 68.5kg Tom Symonds Ben Poste All the better for his reappearance when making a winning hurdling debut at Hereford in November but needs to shrug off a couple of lesser runs since, including in a handicap.

7 ONE FOR YOU (IRE) (82) t 997445 6 10-10 | 68.0kg Philip Hobbs Tom O’Brien Closely related to smart hurdler/high-class chaser Monalee. Has shown promise in his qualifying runs and appeals as a likely improver in handicaps. Also tongue tied first time.

8 GLEN MOOAR (IRE) (47) 697/070 7 10-8 | 67.1kg Robin Dickin Jack Quinlan Did appear to show a bit when not beaten that far in Warwick Grade 2 last time but it could flatter him based on what he’d shown prior to that. Handicap debut.

9 WINGED ISLE (77) 97PP73F-P63 6 10-5 | 65.8kg Dai Burchell Ben Jones (3lb/1kg) Caught the eye in a 2m course maiden before finishing a solid third in a 19.5f Hereford handicap in December. This is a higher grade, though.

9 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:9-2 Royal Pretender, 9-2 Glory And Honour, 5-1 One For You, 11-2 Switch Hitter, 8-1 Took The Lot, 11-1 Winged Isle, 14-1 Aquila Sky, 18-1 Presentedwithwings, 25-1 Glen Mooar

TIMEFORM VIEW:AQUILA SKY got stuck in the mud last time and is perhaps worth another chance as his Doncaster third prior to that has worked out well. There’s surely more to come from recent jumpers bumper winner Glory And Honour over hurdles and he looks next best ahead of One For You and Switch Hitter in an interesting contest.

Pace Information: Even

1 AUTHORIZO (FR) (86) (D) h+t 9925771773 6 11-12 | 75.3kg Oliver Greenall Ross Turner (3lb/1kg) Landed Stratford seller in October and back on song when third of 8 in handicap at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy) 86 days ago. Hood refitted now so not ruled out.

2 MAJESTIC MERLIN (44) t 98P-7442P 6 11-11 | 74.8kg Philip Hobbs Sean Houlihan (3lb/1kg) Improved effort when going close on handicap debut at Wincanton (15.3f) in November but pulled up at Exeter (18.5f) 44 days ago. Tongue strap on now with bit to prove.

3 MOTASHAKEL (IRE) (111) 984333-40 5 11-11 | 74.8kg Evan Williams Isabel Williams (3lb/1kg) Fair ex-Irish 7f Flat winner who made the frame in all his starts over hurdles until well held in stronger company at Cheltenham last time. This is easier and sort to bounce back after a break.

4 ARCADIAN PEARL (IRE) (42) 937-3P9 6 11-11 | 74.8kg

Nicky Henderson Joe Anderson (10lb/5kg) Promising hurdling bow when third in 2m Exeter novice but well held both starts since, though seemed not to stay 2m5f at Ludlow last time. Likely has more to offer now handicapping back at 2m.

5 GEORGE OF NAUNTON (IRE) (35) h 8764-5857 6 11-10 | 74.4kg

Nigel Twiston-Davies Jack Savage (3lb/1kg) Low-mileage sort who hinted at promise only to run poorly on handicap bow at Fakenham (2m4f) 35 days ago. Needs more.

6 CLONGOWES (IRE) (28) t 927966 7 11-9 | 73.9kg Daniel Steele Niall Houlihan Useful at up to 2m on the Flat in Ireland for Jim Bolger in 2018. Bit of promise in maiden/novice hurdles for new yard this term but well held on handicap debut at Wincanton last month. Needs more.

7 MINNIE ESCAPE (68) (D) b 97351915-14 9 11-8 | 73.5kg Victor Dartnall Ben Godfrey Temperamental sort who followed Stratford win with below-form fourth in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (15.3f) 68 days ago. Others appeal more.

8 SALLEY GARDENS (IRE) (17) 9553470 5 11-7 | 73.0kg Olly Murphy Katie O’Farrell No real impact over hurdles, including on handicap debut when last of 18 at Warwick (2m). Hard to make a case for.

9 VINNIE’S GETAWAY (IRE) (15) 94122-3P80P 7 11-7 | 73.0kg Olly Murphy Callum McKinnes (6lb/3kg) Bumper winner who was placed first 3 starts over hurdles but has lost his way since.

10 REMEMBER THE MAN (IRE) (17) (D) 9746-P23P65 8 11-5 | 72.1kg Neil King Max Kendrick One-time fair performer on Flat but just a modest maiden hurdler for current connections. Easy to look elsewhere after twice failing to make the frame in jumpers bumpers.

11 NEWERA (93) 9597 9 11-1 | 70.3kg John Groucott Charlie Todd Fair 1m2f Flat winner in 2016 but lightly raced over hurdles nowadays. Needs more now after a break.

12 ISTORIUS (FR) (50) 669860 5 11-0 | 69.9kg Venetia Williams Rex Dingle Fair 12f maiden on Flat but yet to match that form in four runs over hurdles, last on handicap bow at Plumpton 50 days ago. Hard to make a case for.

13 MEMPHIS BLEEK (47) 9298-553774 5 11-0 | 69.9kg Alastair Ralph Alex Edwards Fair 10f maiden on Flat for Ivan Furtado. Not so good over hurdles for current handler, though fair fourth at Warwick last time. Still hard to warm to.

14 BLACK KALAROSA (IRE) (47) 960P66-8P6 7 10-8 | 67.1kg Robin Dickin Lorcan Murtagh Yet to make the frame in six runs over hurdles, tried in cheekpieces when sixth in Warwick handicap 47 days ago. Has plenty to find.

15 LETSBE AVENUE (IRE) (17) 9880-4026 6 10-7 | 66.7kg Bill Turner Jay Tidball (10lb/5kg) Fair on the Flat for Richard Hannon. Best run for current yard when runner-up in 2m Fakenham handicap hurdle in December. Well held on bumper debut at Lingfield latest run but could bounce back here.

16 WHITE TURF (IRE) (23) 88P9066 6 10-6 | 66.2kg Alastair Ralph Fergus Gregory Fair maiden on Flat for Andrew Balding but not so good for current yard. Has plenty to prove.

17 ALTUMANINA (83) 7167-P8 6 10-3 | 64.9kg Sam Allwood Lewis Stones (3lb/1kg) Poor ex-Irish hurdler who has shown little both runs for new yard this term. Hard to make a case for.

18 THINQUE TANK (34) t 10008653 5 10-2 | 64.4kg Charlie Longsdon Tom Buckley (3lb/1kg) Modest 10f maiden on Flat who has improved over hurdles since sent handicapping, excellent third of 17 in 2m Doncaster handicap 34 days ago. Weighted to go close off same mark.

18 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:7-1 Thinque Tank, 7-1 Motashakel, 7-1 Arcadian Pearl, 8-1 Authorizo, 10-1 Remember The Man, 10-1 Minnie Escape, 16-1 Majestic Merlin, 16-1 Memphis Bleek, 25-1 Letsbe Avenue, 25-1 Istorius, 25-1 Vinnie’s Getaway, 33-1 Salley Gardens, 40-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and THINQUE TANK looks the way to go racing off the same mark as when an excellent third at Doncaster last time. Nicky Henderson’s Arcadian Pearl could take a step forward on his first venture into handicaps so rates an obvious threat with Motashakel not taken lightly either now back in calmer waters.

Pace Information: Very Strong

1 DIAMOND KING (IRE) (650) t 973/1- 13 11-6 | 72.6kg Martin Weston Tom O’Brien Winning pointer who landed one of these events back in 2019 but was a well-beaten third between the flags on only subsequent outing.

2 DIEU VIVANT (FR) (8) (CD) t 1006U41-43P2 8 11-6 | 72.6kg Oliver Greenall Ross Turner (5lb/2kg) Won this corresponding race in 2020 and looked right back in form when second in a C&D handicap 8 days ago. Obvious claims under ideal conditions.

3 KILLARO BOY (IRE) (2) h 100775/1228-3 12 11-6 | 72.6kg Henry Oliver Lee Edwards Useful chaser who shaped as if retaining plenty of ability when third in a hunter at Leicester a couple of days ago. Race will likely come too soon if he takes his chance though.

4 ASANGY (ITY) (9) 793P12/F4-8 9 11-4 | 71.7kg R. Edwards Fergus Gregory (3lb/1kg) Hunter winner in early 2019 but no impact since, including on recent reappearance at Wetherby.

5 BLACKJACKTENNESSEE (14) h 7034F7/6P-P 7 11-2 | 70.8kg G. Slade-Jones Harry Bannister Poor maiden hurdler/chaser for Steve Flook and pulled up on hunter debut at Leicester 14 days ago. Makes no appeal.

6 COPAIN DE CLASSE (FR) (733) t 9914465/ 9 11-2 | 70.8kg

Paul Nicholls Bryony Frost Useful chaser at his peak, albeit very hit and miss. Not seen for over 2 years but hails from a top yard and has won fresh in the past, so warrants plenty of respect.

7 GARDE VILLE (FR) (12) 931143/35-P 11 11-2 | 70.8kg Patricia Rigby Alexander Thorne (5lb/2kg) Fair performer in this sphere in 2018/19 but hard to make a case for on the back of a tame return at Haydock.

8 IDEE DE GARDE (FR) (14) t 7926/244-P 8 11-2 | 70.8kg Mrs Phillippa Taylor William Kennedy Bumper winner who showed fair form over hurdles for Dan Skelton but both outings over fences have been disappointing, including hunter/stable debut at Leicester 14 days ago. Others preferred.

9 KNOCKADERRY FLYER (IRE) (28) b 79PP6/5-P 12 11-2 | 70.8kg Max Comley Thomas Garner Hunter winner back in January 2019 but little promise since, pulled up at Wincanton returning from a long absence 28 days ago. Tried in blinkers.

10 MAITREE EXPRESS (707) 949/ 7 11-2 | 70.8kg Robert Waley-Cohen David England Malinas gelding who finished well held in a bumper at Warwick (16f, good to soft) when last seen 23 months ago. Makes hurdles/yard debut having got off the mark in points at fifth attempt (Dec 1).

11 MASTER DANCER (568) 930F5/284- 10 11-2 | 70.8kg S. J. Sampson Ben Godfrey (5lb/2kg) Fairly useful hurdler for Tim Vaughan who was off the mark at the second attempt in points a year ago. Not seen since, however, so fitness not assured.

12 SAM RED (FR) (12) (D) s+t 750P45/33P-P 10 11-2 | 70.8kg A. B. Leyshon Ben Jones (3lb/1kg) Made frame on point debut last March but record in hunters is very poor, pulled up at Haydock on return 12 days ago.

13 STAPLE HEAD (IRE) (14) 7955 9 11-2 | 70.8kg Mrs Bridget Lewis Richard Patrick Winning pointer but no serious impact in a couple of hunters so far this year. Up against it again.

14 TRIO FOR RIO (IRE) (366) (D) s 95241/53545- 8 11-2 | 70.8kg C. Boultbee-Brooks Richie McLernon Fairly useful hurdler/chaser for Warren Greatrex who has won a couple of points (third on latest outing in December), so one to consider trying hunters for the first time.

15 FISHY STORY (102) t 7944 11 10-9 | 67.6kg S. J. Sampson Angus Cheleda (7lb/3kg) Prolific in points but hasn’t shown enough in bumpers/over hurdles (for Chris Down) to make him of any interest in this.

16 MISS SEAGREEN (42) 953 8 10-9 | 67.6kg Mrs Lucy Smith John Kington Multiple point winner who made a positive start under Rules when third in a C&D hunter 42 days ago. Should give another good account of herself, though needs a bit of improvement.

16 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Dieu Vivant, 9-2 Copain De Classe, 9-1 Killaro Boy, 12-1 Trio For Rio, 12-1 Miss Seagreen, 14-1 Diamond King, 14-1 Maitree Express, 20-1 Master Dancer, 28-1 Garde Ville, 50-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:Fresh can be the time to catch COPAIN DE CLASSE so, while he has a bit to prove back from over 2 years off the track, it’s worth taking the chance that he returns in top form and outclasses his rivals on hunter debut. Last year’s winner Dieu Vivant is in form and a clear danger.
