Pathophysiology of Thyroid Hormones

• Graves’ disease – autoimmune disorder; immune complex mimics TSH – stimulates continual production of thyroid hormone – leads to hyperthyroidism and goiter formation.

• Cretinism – deficiency of thyroid hormones in childhood – results in severe growth retardation and mental retardation.
