Tickhill St Mary’s C.E. Primary & Nursery School Whole School Reading Spine This document is a suggested reading list for our school. It has been collated, with staff recommendations, to deliberately expose the children to inspirational authors, a range of genres and key texts that we would want them to have encountered by the time they leave their primary education. Certain books have been included to fit with the appropriate English and cross-curricular topics for different year groups. Reading, whether in the English lesson, in reading lessons or in other lessons such as history or RE, should occur daily. In this reading spine, there are also books that the children should enjoy as part of a daily story time, as a class reader, purely for their own pleasure and enjoyment of reading. The Literature Spine should always remain a working document – excellent new books are always being written and discovered and so may change year on year.

Tickhill St Mary’s C.E. Primary & Nursery School Whole School Reading Spine

This document is a suggested reading list for our school. It has been collated, with staff recommendations, to deliberately expose

the children to inspirational authors, a range of genres and key texts that we would want them to have encountered by the time

they leave their primary education. Certain books have been included to fit with the appropriate English and cross-curricular topics

for different year groups.

Reading, whether in the English lesson, in reading lessons or in other lessons such as history or RE, should occur daily. In this reading

spine, there are also books that the children should enjoy as part of a daily story time, as a class reader, purely for their own

pleasure and enjoyment of reading.

The Literature Spine should always remain a working document – excellent new books are always being written and discovered and

so may change year on year.
