TITANS HOLD SEVEN PICKS, SELECT 24TH

OVERALL IN UPCOMING NFL DRAFT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Armed with the 24th overall selection and seven total

picks, the Tennessee Titans are in final preparations for the upcoming 2008

NFL Draft.

This year the NFL debuts a new draft format. The first of seven rounds

begins Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. CDT, with the first day’s activities conclud-

ing at the end of Round 2. Rounds 3-7 will be conducted on Sunday, April

27 beginning at 9 a.m. CDT.

The NFL will conduct the draft from Radio City Music Hall in New York

City, while Titans personnel will be headquartered at Baptist Sports Park in

Nashville, Tenn.

Fans can watch the draft in its entirety on NFL Network, ESPN and

ESPN2, while radio listeners can tune to one of 75-plus stations on the Ti-

tans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship 103.3 WKDF and sister sta-

tion 104.5 The Zone. The Zone will feature special draft programming from

Titans Radio throughout the weekend, including gavel-to-gavel coverage of

the first round.

TitansOnline.com, the official website of the Tennessee Titans, will pro-

vide up-to-the minute information on the team’s selections and press confer-

ences with General Manager Mike Reinfeldt, Head Coach Jeff Fisher and

draftees.

MEDIA ADVISORY: PRE-DRAFT PRESS CONFERENCE

The Titans will hold a pre-draft press conference on Thursday, April 24

in the Baptist Sports Park auditorium. General Manager Mike Reinfeldt and

other Titans scouts will be on hand to discuss the draft and scouting process.

The press conference’s exact time will be announced later.

THE DECISION MAKERS:

The 2008 draft is the second selection process overseen by Reinfeldt,

who was hired in February 2007 and had less than three months to prepare

for his first draft. Still, he directed the organization’s efforts in selecting de-

fensive back Michael Griffin with the 19th overall pick and adding nine other

selections to the roster. Eight of the 10 draft picks from 2007 have remained

with the club.

Reinfeldt joined the Titans after distinguishing himself through a nine-

year playing career with the Oakland Raiders and Houston Oilers and 21

years in administration with the Raiders, USC Trojans, Green Bay Packers

and Seattle Seahawks.

Fisher, also instrumental in the selection process, is entering his 14th

full season as head coach of the Titans. His tenure is the longest in the NFL

among head coaches with their current teams. With a 120-104 (.536) career

record, he holds the franchise record for wins by a head coach.

THE 24TH SELECTION:

The Titans select 24th

overall in the first round, the

lowest the team has picked

since 2004, when they origi-

nally had the 27th selection but

traded it to Houston for addi-

tional choices.

If the Titans do not trade

the selection, it will be the first

time in team history the club

has had the 24th overall selec-

tion.

Recent players drafted

with the 24th overall pick in-

clude safety Brandon Meri-

weather (New England) in

2007, running back Steven

Jackson (St. Louis) in 2004,

tight end Dallas Clark (Indi-

anapolis) in 2003 and safety

Ed Reed (Baltimore) in 2002.

Teams are slotted in the

draft based on the previous

season’s results. The higher a

team’s winning percentage,

the lower it ranks in drafting order.

The Titans were one of five teams to finish 2007 with a 10-6 record,

along with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks

and New York Giants. Teams with identical records are ranked in the draft

in order of strength of schedule (weakest to strongest) and then adjusted

based on finish in the playoffs.

In the first round, the Titans select third from that group, behind Cleve-

land (22nd pick, traded to Dallas) and Pittsburgh (23rd) and in front of Seattle

(25th). Due to their Super Bowl victory, the Giants hold the final pick (exclud-

ing compensatory selections) among all 32 teams in each round.

In each round, the Browns, Steelers, Titans and Seahawks will rotate

up in order, meaning the Titans hold the 23rd pick in the second round, 22nd

pick in the third round, etc.

2008 DRAFT PREVIEW

Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt enters his

second year heading up the team’s football operations.

The former Oilers All-Pro safety was hired to his current

position on February 12, 2007 after spending seven

seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

In his first year on the job, Reinfeldt oversaw the

addition of new members to the team’s player person-

nel staff, led the Titans through free agency, directed

his first draft as a general manager and helped lead an

organization that made its first appearance in the play-

offs since 2003.

In his first NFL Draft as a general manager, he used his top choices on

first-round defensive back Michael Griffin, second-round running back

Chris Henry and third-round wide receiver Paul Williams. Griffin, in partic-

ular, was a key contributor as a rookie. He played in all 16 games in 2007

with 10 starts at free safety and totaled 49 tackles and three interceptions.

Reinfeldt now has had two offseasons to add free agents to the roster.

In his initial offseason at the helm, he strengthened the team’s roster with un-

restricted free agents cornerback Nick Harper and wide receiver Justin

Gage and also signed restricted free agent linebacker Ryan Fowler. Those

three players combined for 36 starts in their first season with the Titans and

were key contributors in the club’s playoff run.

So far during the 2008 offseason, the Titans under Reinfeldt’s watch

have added several more key veterans: Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler,

guard Jake Scott, defensive end Jevon Kearse, wide receiver Justin Mc-

Careins and defensive back/kick returner Chris Carr.

Another one of Reinfeldt’s key contributions upon his arrival in Ten-

nessee was the restructuring of the personnel staff. While relying upon talent

already in place, he also hired Senior Director of Football Administration Vin-

cent Marino and Director of Pro Personnel Lake Dawson. Each has made

significant contributions to the team a year into their tenures.

Reinfeldt, who owns a Masters in Business Administration, has built a

resume includes 22 years experience as a front office executive and another

nine as a NFL player. In the past 16 seasons, which include his service in

Green Bay, Seattle and Tennessee, the teams with whom he has worked

have won a combined six division titles, made 11 playoff appearances, four

NFC Championship game appearances, three Super Bowl appearances,

one world title (1996), amassed 13 winning seasons and 152 regular season

wins.

A former safety for the Oilers franchise from 1976-83, Reinfeldt earned

Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 1979. He ranks seventh on the club’s career

interception list with 26 and matched the team record for interceptions in a

season with 12 in 1979. Reinfeldt started 102 consecutive games as the

franchise reached the height of the “Luv Ya Blue” era and the team advanced

to two AFC Championship games. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free

agent out of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, originally signing with

the Oakland Raiders before beginning his career with the Oilers.

2008 DRAFT PREVIEW

Barring a trade in which the Titans deal away or acquire picks, the Ti-

tans will have seven total selections in this year’s draft, the lowest number

since picking six players in 2003. They traded a sixth-round choice to the

Seattle Seahawks for defensive end Bryce Fisher and gained a fourth-

rounder as a compensatory selection for net free agency losses in 2007.

Since the draft went to seven rounds in 1994, the Titans have had at

least seven selections in every year except 2003.

Total number of Titans draft picks since 1994:

Year Picks Year Picks Year Picks

1994 10 1999 8 2004 13

1995 9 2000 10 2005 11

1996 9 2001 7 2006 10

1997 9 2002 10 2007 10

1998 8 2003 6 2008 7*

* Subject to change

Although their six selections in 2003 marked a franchise-low amount,

the Titans have had more draft picks than any other team since then. The Ti-

tans have selected a league-high 44 players in the draft over the previous

four years, using 13 picks in 2004, 11 picks in 2005 and 10 selections in

2006 and 2007. Currently, 24 of those 44 players remain on the roster, and

14 players from the 2006 and 2007 drafts are with the club.

The large number of picks contributed to the Titans having the youngest

roster in the league in 2005, the second-youngest roster in the league in

2006 and the 12th youngest roster at the start of 2007.

Highest number of draft picks from 2004-07:

home and road opponents.

Tennessee Titans 2008 Preseason Schedule:

Tennessee’s 2008 opponents had a combined winning percentage in

2007 of .543. The club’s home opponents last year had a combined record

of 77-51, a winning percentage of .601. Four of the teams went to the play-

offs -- the Packers (13-3), Colts (13-3), Jaguars (11-5) and Steelers (10-6).

On the road, the Titans will face teams with a combined 2007 record of 62-

66 (.484).

The home schedule will feature several rare appearances by visiting

teams at LP Field. Minnesota, one of two NFL teams that have never played

a regular season game at LP Field, will make its first appearance there. Also,

the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers will make their first regular

season appearances at LP Field since 2002.

On the road, the Titans will make their first-ever appearance at Detroit’s

Ford Field, which opened in 2002. Also, the Titans will make their first regular

season appearance at historic Soldier Field since 1995. Titans Head Coach

Jeff Fisher played there as a member of the Bears from 1981-85.

TITANS AWAIT 2008 REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE

The NFL made significant changes for 2008 in how the draft will oper-

ate. This year, for the first time, only the first two rounds will be conducted

on Saturday, while the remaining five rounds conclude on Sunday. In previ-

ous years, the league held the first three rounds on Saturday.

Also this year, the time allocated for each club to make its selection in

the first two rounds has been changed. Instead of 15 minutes for each pick

in Round 1, clubs now will be allowed 10 minutes. In Round 2, the selection

time has been shortened from 10 minutes to seven minutes. Time limits for

Rounds 3-7 will remain at five minutes.

2008 DRAFT PREVIEW

Since 1995, Jeff Fisher’s first full season as head coach, the Titans

have used their 11 first-round draft picks on quarterback Steve McNair

(1995), running back Eddie George (1996), defensive end Kenny Holmes

(1997), wide receiver Kevin Dyson (1998), defensive end Jevon Kearse

(1999), linebacker Keith Bulluck (2000), defensive tackle Albert

Haynesworth (2002), cornerback Andre Woolfolk (2003), cornerback Pac-

man Jones (2005), quarterback Vince Young (2006) and safety Michael

Griffin (2007). Twice in that time period (2001 and 2004), the Titans have

not had a first-round selection as a result of trades.

RECENT FIRST-ROUNDERS

Trading to move up or down is always a possibility in the draft. The

2007 draft was the first time in five years the Titans were not involved in a

draft-day trade. They changed position at least once in each draft from

2002-06. They traded first-day draft choices (first, second or third round)

for additional picks in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

In 2002, they dropped one spot in the first round and still ended up with

defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth with the 15th pick. In 2003, they used

additional picks to trade up on the second day of the draft to select safety

Donnie Nickey in the fifth round. The Titans traded their first- and fifth-round

selections in 2004 to the Houston Texans in exchange for three additional

picks. They dropped down four spots in the second round in 2005 to acquire

an additional fourth-round pick from Detroit. In 2006, Tennessee traded down

in the second round to pick up an additional fourth-rounder from Philadel-

phia. They still managed to select running back LenDale White with their

eventual second-round pick and used the fourth-round selection on line-

backer Stephen Tulloch.

Since 1987, the Titans have been involved in 10 trades involving their

first-round pick. The team has traded up in the first round twice in that time

period to select the player they wanted; more commonly, they have traded

down in the first round or out of the first round six times. There have been

two occasions since 1987 when they traded their first-round pick for a player

-- DE Lee Williams in 1992 and DE Kevin Carter in 2001.

Recent draft trades by the Titans (since 1995):

* In 1996, the Titans traded down from ninth to 17th and then traded with

Seattle back up to 14th to select RB Eddie George.

2008 DRAFT PREVIEW

Since the team’s initial draft as a charter member of the American Foot-

ball League in 1960, the Titans have made 43 first-round selections, using

that pick on an offensive player 23 times and on defense 20 times. On of-

fense, running backs lead the list, having been chosen seven times in the

first round, three of which were Heisman Trophy winners: Billy Cannon

(1960), Earl Campbell (1978) and Eddie George (1996).

On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers have been selected the

most -- seven times -- by the Titans in the first round. Robert Brazile (1975),

Lamar Lathon (1990) and Keith Bulluck (2000) headline the linebackers cho-

sen. A complete breakdown of Tennessee's first-round selections follows

below.

Breakdown of Titans' All-Time First-Round Picks by Position:

In seven of the last nine drafts, Tennessee has chosen a defensive

player with its first overall pick: Michael Griffin (2007), Pacman Jones (2005),

Andre Woolfolk (2003), Albert Haynesworth (2002), Andre Dyson (second

round in 2001), Keith Bulluck (2000) and Jevon Kearse (1999). The lone

exceptions are 2004, when they chose TE Ben Troupe with their first pick

(second round), and 2006, when they selected quarterback Vince Young

with the third overall pick.

TENNESSEE’S RECENT DRAFT CLASSES

* Started six or more games for the Titans in 2007

# Spent entire 2007 season with another club

The Titans will enter this year’s selection meeting with five selections

on the second day of the draft, when teams will make their picks in Rounds

3-7. Prior to this year, the term “second-day draft pick” implied a selection

in Rounds 4-7, but for the first time this year the second day will begin with

Round 3.

Nevertheless, the Titans have found through recent years a number of

“hidden gems” that have become productive players and starters on the sec-

ond day of the draft. Since 1995, the franchise has found 18 regular starters

through the years with second day selections.

Some of the players who have excelled for the Titans after being se-

lected on the second day of the draft: DT Gary Walker (fifth round in 1995),

T Jon Runyan (fourth round in 1996), WR Derrick Mason (fourth round in

1997), G Benji Olson (fifth round in 1998), LB Peter Sirmon (fourth round

in 2000), WR Justin McCareins (fourth round in 2001), C Justin Hartwig

(sixth round in 2002), G/T Jacob Bell (fifth round in 2004), T David Stewart

(fourth round in 2005), TE Bo Scaife (sixth round in 2006), CB Reynaldo

Hill (seventh round in 2005) and CB Cortland Finnegan (seventh round in

2006).

Titans regular starters found on second day of draft since 1995 (started

at least 10 games in one or more seasons):

SECOND-DAY SELECTIONS

At the conclusion of Round 7 of the draft, the TItans personnel depart-

ment remains at work. At that point, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt and

his staff contact undrafted players the team hopes to sign as free agents.

Last year, the Titans announced the signing of 12 rookie free agents in

the days immediately following the draft. One of those players -- wide re-

ceiver Biren Ealy -- was on the roster for the entire 2007 season.

The 12-player total in 2007 was a recent team low in rookie free agent

signings. In the previous six years, a minumum of 20 undrafted free agent

signings were announced after the draft -- 22 in 2001, 20 in 2002, 34 in 2003,

27 in 2004, 36 in 2005 and 23 in 2006.

Veteran players currently on the Titans roster who originally entered

the NFL as undrafted free agents include LS Ken Amato, K Rob Bironas,

TE Dwayne Blakley, DT Tony Brown, DE Sean Conover, WR Biren Ealy,

LB Ryan Fowler, FB Ahmard Hall (signed following supplemental draft)

and CB Nick Harper.
