LIFE IS MUSIC MUSIC IS LIFE

PEoPLE oF ToMoRRowLAnD,wE ARE MAKInG HISToRY!

RemembeR when we said you can make youR eveRy wish come tRue?

that counts oR the music as well. seRiously, this weekends got it all.

The moment weve all been waiting for has arrived, living up to every possible expectation. Magical Friday!

Man oh man! Were amazed ourselves at whats in

store for you today! Super-duper trance? Flabber-

gasting electro with a pinch of fidget house? Ramblin

and rollin drum & bass? Techno-tronic, psytrance-

sonic, minimal, maximal, nu skool, old skool and be-

yond. Get Intense with Armin van Buuren, jump your

ass off with the amazing Bonzai All Stars, have a super

deluxe threesome of the finest and purest house mu-

sic with Derrick Carter vs Mark Farina vs Sneak and

get inside the Cocoon alongside the absolute king of

techno madness: Sven Vth. Avicii is playing peaktime

tonight, and the Swedish golden boy has proven him-

self to be a high-class act during this years European

festival season. By the time hes inevitably winding

up his set with Levels, youll all be expl oding in fits of

    unrestrained joy!

Lets be honest for a moment whether youve been to Tomorrowland before

or not, were you ready for this? Because we certainly werent. We could give

you the numbers: tens of thousands of people, 15 stages, and so on. Yet the

actual practice is so much better, isnt it? To feel the bass surging through your

bones, to be amidst so many like-minded people, to see the mainstage ex-

plode into a flurry of mythical creatures, flames, steam, smoke and colours

A day like yesterday is something no amount of experience will prepare you

for. And make no mistake that goes for the artists just as well. Pushed to great

heights by the sun, the stages, and your enthusiastic smiles, each and every

one of them gave their very best. From Dimitri Vegas & Like Mikes block-bust-

ing barrage of house to KOAN Sounds intimate display of the cutting edge of

broken bass, the interaction between you and the DJs was a sight to behold.

Magic. Now are you ready to do the incredible again today?

And so youdisappear down the Main Avenue again. This day, however, is unlike yesterday.

You know where to go now, as well ashow to get there. You will make yourown choices, and with them write your

own story. It will not take much, as thedcor is already there. Your task is onlyto decide will you go to V-Sessions,

where owering gardens blanket a oat-ing stage? Or is the newly-discoveredspecies o organ buttery, towering abovethe Super You&Me stage higher thanmany a cathedral, your avourite? Thereare plenty o options let. Perhaps yourriends would like to join you at FerryCorstens Full On podium, which revealsa world o eerily beautiul, bluish mothsupon entry. you stay up all night chatting with the peoplenexttentap? Whatever you did, were sure it

was awesome! Friday gave us so much to enjoy,

rom Carl Cox to Tisto, that were wonderinghow on earth todays going to be. In the mean-

time, a lot o stu is happening on other parts

o Tomorrowland. Yesterday morning we took a

stroll at Dreamville again, to spy on you a littlewhile you still sleeping. And boy, did you look

    good waking up!

IM 18 AND I DO WHAT I WANT!. Thats the slogan Tilly

    (18) and her riends live by this weekend. I turned 18 a month ago

and got a ticket rom my parents! Party on Tilly!

Tom (20) looks like he ell asleep in ront o his tent, but hes been awake

    empty stomach. Sure Tom, sure.

The picture says it all: Mark managed to make it back to his dog-

But alive? Yes. We poked him with a stick to check.

ELIxIR oF LIFEAter 9 years o aging, the secret is ready to be unveiled. The frst Tomorrow-land Rum, The Elixir o Lie, has arrived at Tomorrowland. It has been aging

started out in 2011 on a very small scale basis ater the

producers o Dreamville asked us to come up with anidea or camping radio. Beore we started doing this, there

    just wasnt any other es-

tival providing custom-ized on site camping ra-

    dio. In Holland you had

3FM covering Lowlandsand in the UK estivals like Glastonbury also had their

own broadcasting. O course Tomorrowland couldnt stay

behind. For Studio Brussel it seemed like the perect op-

portunity to give our youngsters a chance, to throw themin so they get totally immersed in the ull-on radio experi-

Sort o. Theres defnitely a link between these two pro-jects. The frst year we made up our team out o a search

or talent, and those people eventually became a part o

The Wild Bunch. We gave that group the opportunity toexperiment with their own radio making during the night

broadcast on Studio Brussel. Some o them are now actu-

ally part o the Studio Brussel team, so we have a bit o acorrelation between the two. Weve got some unrevealed

talent behind our mic, and also some radio-DJs that

people might already know as part o The Wild Bunch.

Dreamville Radio is a great place to see all this talent liveup to the moment.

Its very clear: a real studio is much saer to be in. Youre

more in control o everything, youve got the time to pre-

pare things, to do a little pre-talk with your interviewees, the setlist is made up beore the broadcast whereas

Dreamville Radio is crazy shit! You never know what is

going to happen. But itsexactly that spontaneity

that makes this all so ex-

citing. For example: onThursday we invited the

DJs that played at The Gathering to come over or an inter-

view, but some o them got lost on the way to our studio.

Panic? Not at all, we just turn our whole schedule around, use our creative masterminds and most o the time those

unexpected events provide or some things that are even

    more awesome.

In Guatemala there isnt much to do as i t comes to electronic music.

Last year weve been to Ultra, which was amazing. But this year we

wanted to step it up a notch. The next level. And there really is only one

option, Tomorrowland! The atmosphere is amazing. Everybodys smiling.

Everybodys happy. United by the music.

Its a moving sight to see all these dierent cultures dance side by side.

Even people rom countries at war, or with a shared history o violence,

can be seen laughing. For instance; we saw the fags o the USA hanging

next to the one o Venezuela. Theres no hate. Just riendship. Where in

the world do you get that?

Down in India, they only thing weve got is Sandburn estival.

Electronic music is growing in popularity but it will take some time to

establish. Ater watching the atermovie o last year, we just had to go. It

was a hell o a trip, but standing here and looking out over the valley it

was worth every penny. A eeling which simply cant be described.

Music generates gravity; it pulls people in and bindsthem together. Heres how riends are made.

ing production, the service, the visitors, its all alling into place. Debbie is doing a European tour.

Ater Tomorrowland shell be heading to Italy, France, Spain and more. And the thing is: shes all by

hersel! But thats ok! Ive already made many new riends today. Thats probably the thing I love the

most about this amazing estival. Its a melting pot o so many dierent cultures.

Out o all the tickets sold, one or each country was randomly selected or this international momento love. Luxury drinks were on the house, and everyone got to pin their ag onto a wall o leaves.

These lucky chosen ew got to be ambassadors or the culture that ormed them, with one important

thing in common; their passion or music.

It eels like coming home. When youre dancing like crazy at the mainstage and you take a look or

a moment, youre immediately riends with the stranger next to you. Ive got riends rom all dierent

cultures because o this music. Tasha came all the way rom Australia or Tomorrowland. I workmy ass o all year long, just so I can visit this Disneyland or music. Work hard, play harder! She

teamed up with some people she met on Facebook. Its a group or everyone who wants to attend.

Today I fnally got to meet them in person!

Meanwhile the group has grown in size and variety. Sweden, New Zealand, Cyprus, Estonia. Diver-

sity rules. By the time Arty takes the mainstage, this group o strangers has become a little amily on

their own. And all that because o the music. Thats the power o Tomorrowland.

    Wow!

There is a very good reason why Tomorrow-

land is the worlds favourite festival and it is

down to you, each and every one of you. The

atmosphere at the main stage as I write this is

amazing and NERVO have just taken over...

woo ooh ! They t ell me t here are m ore coun tries

represented here than at the Olympics, how

    cool is that?

I have to be very honest though, with only

40% of ticket sales going to Belgium there is

a small something missing, the formations of

people dancing the same way... hint hint nudge

nudge I tried it a few times during Sunnery

& Ryans set but only a handful of people went

for it. Maybe we can do that all together today

perhaps? Anyway, thank you all for being you,

and I will say again, we are the revolution, we

are the future and now is our time to tell the

world i t is t ime to come to gether... in peace

with mu sic ri nging i n our ears, and love i n our

hearts, even if it is only for these 3 days. Music

on the main is getting a little bit harder each

year and being a soul man I am con stantly

looking for the soul to rise up and out, its

coming, I know it. When it does come I prom-

ise it will hit you harder than any kick drum,

but now Im babbling, it has been an emotional

Friday and the goose pimples have still not

gone kippenvel they say in Holland.

Saturday will be a Saturday I hope youre

Meet Yves V, the DJ who grew from Tomorrowland

    favourite to worldwide phenomenon.

When I press play the whole setting

    and experience take me into

    some kind of trance.

hw wl y sc xla t mac Tmwla?

Its difcult to describe, but everybody thats been here

or even saw the atermovie knows that this isnt yourordinary estival. When you set oot on the estival

grounds you can instantly eel the magic. I think their

eye or detail is one o the events main successes; romthe ood corners to the smallest stages, they are all per-

ect. Nowadays, demand or tickets is so high that i

you have a ticket, you eel special.

hw y t vlv wt all ts? Wats

    t sty Yvs a Tmwla?

I was lucky enough to grow with the estival. Sevenyears ago I had the chance to play at another ID&T

event called HEAVEN. This was such a success that

they asked me to open the mainstage. Im proud to say

that I am a Tomorrowland Resident DJ.

    Wats t l Tmwla y ca?d t l y cm ts ?

I think being one o the Tomorrowland residents has

been great or my career. Besides rom that I have myown productions which are doing really well. I eel

that when I play abroad people want to eel that To-

morrowland vibe, the one I try to give during my sets.

Tay, yll st V-Ssss, wt a mssv

l-. Ca y tll s wat ts sta s all at?

Atsts?V-Sessions is the name o my radio show. Last year we

had the idea o hosting a stage that gave you the music

that I play during my radio shows: a wide range rom

progressive house till electro house, were I invite some

o my colleague DJs. Last years line up was with BingoPlayers, Felguk, Tristan Garner, Adrian Lux, Bassjack-

ers the list goes on. It was such a huge success that we

needed to repeat it and do it bigger. First o all I am

happy that I have some producers on my line-up that Iadmire, such as Pete Tong, Eric Prydz & Nicky Rome-

ro. Its an honour to work with them. Aside rom that

Ive got some great producers and DJs on stage withwhom I have collaborations, like Michael Calan and

Felguk. We created a new stage this year, so prepare

yoursel or an amazing show. I hope to see everyone

    who reads this there!

    Wat s t mst mmal mmt y a

    at Tmwla, all ts yas?

Hosting my own stage at Tomorrowland has al-ways been my dream. Last year I did it and it was

huge! Also, my mainstage perormance last year

is one o my best memories ever. I got so manypositive reactions during my set and on social

media. So the pressure is on this year.

    A wat s t wst t y v saw atTmwla?

Thats a difcult question. Weird but great was

when the crowd at the mainstage lited a guy upin his wheelchair. He looked so happy

    Wat y t TmwWl? is t a

lcal st? Wat a y xctats?I think it will be great, so many people that cant

join the Tomorrowland madness due to distance

or ticket sale constraints will be able join thisunique experience in Atlanta.

is Amca t ms la lctc

msc?Dance music really exploded in the US and I eel

that we havent reached the top yet.

Countries like Brazil and Mexico are really intoEDM too, so I see a bright uture or this genre.

    Y tavl a t wl t lay t -

st stvals. Wat mas Tmwla s

scal cmas? For me its like playing a home match, something

I look orward to the whole year. This year I will

be premiering 6 new tracks - I hope you guyslike them!

    Wat s t y m scs

    y cm sta a stat lay? A cay sc t l y av wl -

    m?

Like every artist I have some small nerves butwhen I press play the whole setting and experi-

ence take me into some kind o trance. I cant

    describe that great eeling.

    Wat s t t Yvs V l l?

Busy, really busy. Im touring in Brazil, Chili, Ar-

gintina and Asia. Also, Im releasing a new trackevery month starting in August, so youll be hear-

    ing rom me.

    Ts s y cac t sa ctly t all t asat Tmwla. Wat wl y l t say?

I would say enjoy it to the ullest, and I am surethis weekend will be unorgettable. Something

to keep in mind: I will be hosting my V-Sessions

Frequently ranked the #1 DJ in the world,

Armin van Buuren had the chance to show

o his chops on March 30th with his produc-

    tion A State o Trance 600 - The Expedition.

Primarily a celebration o the success o Van

Buurens radio show, the event also allowed Corsten and Schulz to pre-

miere their collaborative project, New World Punx.

Sitting down with van Buuren beore his gala, Tomorrowland Today had a

chance to discuss some o his avourite music and his new album Intense.

wh h ee oe dvce ou hve receved h helped keep our

    ho o?

Its most important to say that A State o Tranceis not a show or the ans

only, its a show by the ans as well. It popped into my mind to stop at 500

episodes but seeing the show grow and progress like it has is all because

o the ans. The ans keep the show alive. Thats the reality o things. Im

really overwhelmed by the support every week online and the love rom

the ans or this music. Its just amazing.

Im a DJ and I think its my job to be curious as to what drives people to

like certain tracks. Im very hungry to understand that. I think its even my

job to understand why people like Gangnam Styleeven though I would

never ever play that in my set. I want to understand the emotion behind

it. I want to know why people like it. Thats my job. Im curious. Most o

the tracks in the Billboard [charts] dont really appeal to me because my

heart is really with trance music. But I think its an important lesson to

learn rom every style, every genre. What pitalls you have and what your

strengths are. You have to learn.

you do lve lu d ou do udo lu. whe ou re cre

udo lu, ho doe h der

    ro lve lu?

When I DJ, I play tracks rom mysel

and tracks rom other people. When I

do an artist album, Ive produced every

track mysel. So I go into the studio with singers, writers, guitar players,

violin players, everything and create everything mysel. A DJ set is really

based on what you eel. Its really on the spot. Its like, its that kind o

crowd so Im playing this and this and this. Its more catered to the actual

situation. When Im in the studio, I dont have reerence with the crowd.

I dont see a crowd in ront o me. Im just sitting back relaxed, enjoyingmaking sounds and soundscapes and trying new things with music.

    bee e p p, d ce e e iee?

Intense is my new album. Its my fth artist album and it will be released

on the 3rd o May (the 7th in the US eds.) . Its a very varied album. Its

a trance album but Ive listened to a lot o other styles as well. There is a

theme behind the album, i you look at the cover where Im holding the

light. Its sort o a metaphor to say that Ive ound my own road. I didnt

try to orce anything with Intense. I was just in the studio having so much

    un creating music.
