Incredible to think just how quickly the year is zooming by! We trust you all had a great break and a restful time. We would like to welcome any new students to Owairaka Primary and Puriri Team. Feel free to make yourselves known to us and we look forward to working with you in the year ahead. A big thank you to all the parents who came and helped us on our recent trip to MOTAT. We had an awesome response and are very grateful. Homework Please encourage all your children to learn their Spelling words, Times Tables and Reading each night. Joke for the Week Q: What did one maths book say to the other? A: I’ve got problems. Lost Property At the end of last year the amount of clothing left in the lost property box had reduced. It is pleasing to see that the children are becoming more responsible for their property. Please name your child’s clothing and encourage them to bring all their gear home at the end of each day. Road Safety. Stop chaos at the school gate. Wet days mean more traffic and less visibility. Extra care and patience is needed. Use your lights, bring an umbrella and be prepared to walk further than usual to pick up your child. Better to catch a cold than collect a car! CHOOSE SAFETY OVER CONVENIENCE. PROTECT ALL OUR CHILDREN. Hats Hats do not need to be worn this term. Thought for the Week Smile and the world smiles with you!! Cosmodome Cosmodome provides outreach education in schools. They bring their traveling planetarium direct to our school and make astronomy come alive in the classroom without any of the stress that a trip away can bring. Inspiration, information and conversation. While sitting back under the stars students are led through the Universe where complex ideas are presented in a concise and easy to grasp manner that the students can identify with and engage in. This supports our science topic this term on Big Ideas about the Solar System. When: 23 rd June 2011 Where: Owairaka School Hall We will send a notice home closer to the time. (NB: There may be a small cost involved) Reporting This week your child’s report will come home. This is reporting up against the National Standards for Reading, Writing and Maths. In week 2 there will be 3 Way Conferences being held on the Tuesday and Wednesday. National Science Week May 2 nd – 7 th Students, teachers and parents throughout New Zealand will be involved in a special week this May to emphasise the importance of science education in primary schools. This is the first time such a week has been held. We will be focusing on lots of chemistry based activities. We will have a full school science
