I am the primary engineer for multiple hosted environments (Production, Development, QA) in SoftLayer datacenters. I have built out multiple Hadoop clusters using Cloudera. Additionally, I have been tasked with setting up multiple Jenkins servers to roll out code to our multiple environments. Taking advantage of Centos7 KVM hypervisors, I am able to create and maintain multiple servers and aid developers and QA engineers in performing their job functions. We have also put into place 2 different Citrix XEN servers and using these hypervisors created multiple servers for use within the company. I have also researched and put into place a development set of systems using Docker. It was decided after we rolled out Docker that the company would rather use Openstack to host these systems, so I researched Openstack and then created the whole environment without any assistance in a local on-site datacenter. From racking servers, to installing software, setting up networking and getting VPN access for groups. Using AWS, we spun up a customer facing demo site and maintained the systems in the public cloud. Maintain and support 4 different domains (QA, DEV, DMZ and PROD) using Windows 12 domain controllers, setting up users, setting up groups and group policies.

Responsible for building out an internal on site datacenter from server build out to installing operating systems, configuring the networking and then building out an entire Openstack environment. I am the primary engineer for multiple hosted environments (Production, Development, QA) in SoftLayer datacenters. I have built out multiple Hadoop clusters using Cloudera. Responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure servers that support our applications, which are bare metal machines and virtual servers using Puppet, Foreman and Cobbler running Linux CentOS version 5, 6 and 7. Maintain over 350 applications used in our environment by working with developers to push out code, updates and patches. 24/7 support for applications by monitoring all processes, alerts and responding accordingly; troubleshoot issues within our applications and assist in recommending solutions for faster throughput. Work with Operations and Incident management teams to quickly manage and resolve complex issues and outages by engaging multiple teams including DBA's, Network Ops and the application owners. Set up new applications in our environment from start to finish by selecting which servers the applications should be deployed to, setting up environment, setting up DNS, setting up netscaler configurations and rolling out code from test/stage to production. Write and work with scripts to automate processes within our environment. Work with developers on a daily basis to answer questions specific to the applications they support. Document processes for the department using Atlassian Confluence(wiki). We are also responsible for maintaining compliance with our environmental using security and trustworthy computing policies. Train other staff members and help them learn our systems and processes.

Promoted to Systems Engineer in DevOps In March 2011Responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure servers for Message One (M1) that supports and runs the SAAS enterprise disaster recovery/continuity and archiving software, EMS and the notification and alerting software Alertfind in multiple world wide datacenters using Puppet and Cobbler with the base systems running on Linux (CentOS v. 4, 5, & 6). Monitor all processes, alerts and respond accordingly. Document processes for the department and publish them on a network sharepoint site. Run custom customer exports of data for offloading of customers and also run custom imports of data for new and existing customers. Work with all departments within M1 to communicate all issues, problems and resolutions. Control all changes for each datacenter on the application side using a standard change management process and monitor all changes, document all of the changes and communicate to all of the various departments the progress and completion of these changes. Maintain a full lab environment of Windows 2008r2 servers with the applications installed for all datacenters. To do this I had to keep a full working setup of Windows AD, Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 and integrate it with the EMS client side software so troubleshooting software bugs and problems could be done after rolling out new code to the datacenters. Work with development on software bugs and enhancements with a working knowledge of Postgres DB, Microsoft SQL Server and Java. Write scripts using BASH to execute commands across many boxes and make available to all engineers on a universal MCP server.

Hired as an L2 agent after working as a contract employee for Adecco. Taking all escalations from L1 agents worldwide to resolve outstanding issues with the cases that can’t be handled by L1 agents. Working alongside other L2 agents, as well as other various departments to resolve issues within our software for our customers. I have also been primarily SME on some core essentials of the Message One products and I have created training documents, knowledge base articles and training classes for our agents. Using Windows server 2008R2 with AD and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 maintain a full lab replicating a customers environment. Then also install Windows server 2008R2 on HyperV virtual machines with a server set up for each of the datacenters that we support (Plano, London and Chicago).

Support Dell/Message One, proprietary software used primarily for disaster recovery, email security and email archiving and email continuity. This includes, but is not limited to, answering and problem solving with customers to resolve software issues, maintenance of the various software and integration between customer’s servers and our software. The server platforms are 2003 and above, Exchange 2003 and 2007and Lotus Notes/Domino servers. It is very important that we have constant communication with customers and deal with high level Network engineers and management within the customers organization to handle a variety of issues and challenges.This was a contract position.

I support all of the Homes and Corporate legal staff daily on any issues that arise on their computers and assist them in any issues that they might have. I deploy new imaged computers to all of the legal staff and configure them with all of the company’s legal application software. One of the keys to my position is that I must always be patient, empathetic, pleasant, organized, resourceful and possess strong problem-solving and PC troubleshooting abilities. To work in this environment I must also have outstanding customer service skills. I must always work for the “customer” and provide the best service necessary to maintain their trust and their assurance that we are always here to make their job easier.

During my last 6 months we migrated all of the firm users to an Active Directory Domain. I setup users on all necessary servers. Another function of my position was to configure, upgrade, maintain and troubleshoot all of the desktop PC hardware, laptops, video-conference equipment, telcom equipment, PDAs, HP printers and other peripherals in a networked environment. I set up users on the Teltronics phone system and made all phone system add, moves and changes. I set up users on Citrix and monitored the remote network access. I setup and monitored all video conferences within our office. SDMA uses Concordance and Summation for their Litigation Support needs. I must be proficient in these applications to make sure our Litigation department is always up to speed on the software so that they can perform their jobs efficiently. Customer service and my ability to always help the users was always a very big part of my position and a key in my position at SDMA.
