TRAFFIC CALMING PROGRAMVolume 7, Issue 1 AUGUST, 2002
Step Two: Traffic Safety Analysis
The Traffic Engineering Department will completetraffic engineering studies for the submittedlocations. The results from this study will indicatethe traffic calming measures that are best suitedfor the street. The study will also be used by theTraffic Engineering Director to set priorities forinstallations.
If the residents and the Traffic EngineeringDirector agree that a traffic circle is the mostsuitable measure to use, the residents will be ableto select landscaping from an approved plant list. This will require the residents to maintain theplanting area of the traffic circle. If the residentsdo not want this responsibility, the inner circlewill be paved.
Residents can meet with the Traffic EngineeringDepartment to discuss traffic issues, the trafficstudies that have been completed, the types oftraffic calming measures that are available, andthe procedures for installing traffic calming intheir area.

The circles were put in to slow the traffic in residentialneighborhoods. They have also encouraged many peopleto use the main street. Remember to obey the speedlimit.
Legal Left Turns A left turn can be made two ways; by going right around
the circle or by waiting until other traffic has cleared thecircle, then turning left in front of the circle. Either islegal, just remember to yield to through traffic.
Do Not Drive On The Wrong Side Of The RoadIf you are confused about how to drivethrough a circle, remember to stay onthe right side of the street. It may be quickor easier to drive on the wrong side, but thatis considered reckless driving.
Turning Traffic To YieldJust as in regular intersections, cars making a turn shouldyield to traffic going straight.
No Stop SignStop signs are not needed due to the slow speeds. The right of way rule applies. Yield to the vehicleon your right.
