OVERVIEW

Egypt is not only made of mummies and pyramids, and the city of Sharm El-Sheikh will show you what else this wonderful country has. Situated in the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, the city has a lot of nature, parties and entertainment to offer. Stunning sights, amazing coral reefs and interesting shipwrecks.

The “City of Peace”, as it is also known, is divided into two areas: the wonderful beaches and the desert. Most of the hotels and resorts are strategically located in front of the beach and camels can eventually be seen walking through the desert sand.

Naama Bay and Shark’s Bay are the most known points, where you find a big part of the beaches, shopping centers and nightclubs.

In the desert it is possible to camp and see the stars with a telescope. One of the most important sacred places is located only 230 Km from Sharm El-Sheikh. It is the Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

The charmant city stays a little away from the pharaonic and spiritual mysteries that build the image of Egypt, but still delights the tourist with its touristic attractions, breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences.

There are fireworks, historic art pieces exhibitions and also body painting groups by the beach. During these times it is necessary to book your accommodation in advance.

TRANSPORT

The best way to go everywhere you want is by getting a taxi cab. Choose always the blue and white cars, since they have a license to carry foreigners and are the only ones who are allowed to drive in Naama Bay. The prices are really attractive, but check at your hotel how much the ride is supposed to cost and before entering the taxi cab negociate the price with the driver. Be prepared to givet tips (called Baksheesh in egypcian) for any kind of service, especially to the taxi drivers.

CLIMATEIn Sharm El-Sheikh it is sunny during the day and the wheather gets fresh during the night. In a winter day the temperature can reach 22 degrees Celsius, that means: also in the winter it is possible to enjoy the beaches, the pools and the city. During summer the temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the Red Sea in this region ranges from 20 to 27 degrees Celsius.

BEST TIME TO VISITSharm El-Sheikh is known as the diving and snorkelling city. The Red Sea attracts divers and tourists during the whole year, since the wheather is always sunny and appropriate for the practice of sports. The waters of the Red Sea are always warm and can reach 27 degrees Celsius, that is the reason why it is so good to practice sports there.

ATTRACTIONS

In Sharm El-Sheikh there are attractions for everyone’s taste. Stunning beaches, luxurious casinos and historic and religious places.

MOUNT SINAIWith no doubt this is an indispensable destiny for the ones who like history. On this mount, as it is told in the Bible, Moses received from God the Tablets of Law. At the foot of the mount there is the Saint Catherine’s Monastery, which was built in the sixth century and never had its activities stopped.

BEACHESAt night the stunning beaches turn into a party place. The Pataya Beach, as an example, is located at the Nabq Bay and has many different bars. The Naama Bay and the Shark’s

Bay are the most famous beaches where you can find many resorts. At the beach you can observe the sea connecting with the desert.

DIVING CENTERSVisiting Sharm El-sheikh and not diving is just like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. Diving is the most searched and also the most offered activity in the city. Almost all hotels promote diving snorkeling excursions with qualified professionals. Some of the best diving centers are: Emperor Divers, Red Sea Diving College and Pyramids Diving Center. Discover the Red Sea and its enchantments. It is an unforgettable experience.

SOHO ICE SKATINGLocated in Shark’s Bay, here visitors can feed the sharks in the Red Sea and it is also possible to go ice skating.

NIGHTLIFEThe night at the “City of Peace” pleases everyone. The Fantasia Alf Leila Wa Leila offers all kinds of environments you can imagine. Fancy dinners and huge parties with loud music can take place there. The casinos are also really popular in Sharm El-Sheikh and they are usually located inside the most luxurious hotels and resorts, like the Aladin Casino and the Sinai Grand Casino.

Sharm El-Sheikh is not only an exotic and stunning destination, but also a well prepared city where visitors are always well received. Many tours options, organised by travel agencies or hotels are always chosen by the tourists. It is worth taking a look at it!

WHERE TO STAY

Most of the accommodation options are located close to the sea, where a nice view is guaranteed.

For those who cannot spend much money on the stay, there are many hostels and Bed&Breakfasts. The Sinai Old Spice is located in Roissa, only five minutes away from Naama Bay and offers double rooms and resting areas with sofas. All of this with egypcian decoration. The Ocean Club, the Holiday Service College and the Logaina Sharm Resort are another cheap options but with more comfort.

DINING OUT

Just like any other seaside city, Sharm El-Sheikh offers a great variety of seafood. Try the grilled or the cooked combinations with the Mashi, the traditional Rice served with meat, grape

leaves, tomatoes, aubergine and green bell pepper. Another option is to walk through the streets from Naama Bay and enjoy the delights of the Kan Zaman Restaurant.

The restaurant name means “here is the past” in the egypcian language. There you can savor seafood, chinese food, kobeiba (meat, fish and nuts), baba ghannoush (mashed aubergine with garlic) and kafta (balls of minced or ground meat – usually beef or lamb – mixes with spices and onions). The favourite dessert is the Om Ali, cooked pieces of puff pastry combined with nuts, raisins and coconut, covered in hot sweetned milk and cream.

The Camel Restaurant & Bar is a great option to enjoy good drinks and watch to the live shows. It is recommended to visit the bar in the late afternoon so you can see the wonderful sunset from their terrace. If you want to escape from the typical dishes you can seat by the seaside and enjoy na italian meal at the El Fanar Restaurant.

You will find many different dinning options in Sharm El-Sheikh, most of them ready to serve a great number of people, like the Beverly Hills, the Blue Ginger, the Mahony and the Bar Moonshine.

SHOPPING

There are plenty of options when you go shopping in Sharm El-Sheikh. You can take a look at one of the biggest market chains from Egypt, the Metro Market, or just walk through the Panorama Star Megastore, located at Naama Star’s heart. There you will find egypcian souvenirs, clothes, accessories and much more. For those who like jewelry, the best choice is to visit the Philippo Jewellery, a especialized shop in Nabq. At Radio it is possible to find eletronic devices such as telephones, iPods, cameras and camcorders. Of coure there are many interesting small shops throughout the city where you can buy nice souvenirs and egypcian objects.

CURRENCYThe oficial currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). The Euro and the US-Dollar can also be used when shopping in Sharm El-Sheikh. But pay attention because the stores can charge more because of the exchange. The great majority of the hotels accept all credit cards, although hostels may accept the payment only in cash. You will find many exchange agencies through the city and also inside shopping centers and hotels.
