    2011 NEW YEARS

    RESOLUTION: START TAKING

    BETTER CARE OF YOUR

    VEHICLE

(NewsUSA) - While we might slipup on our New Years resolutionsat times, this year you can resolveto take better care of your car allyear. Firestone Complete AutoCare offers the following tips forwinter vehicle maintenance to getyou started!

    * Be proactive. Winter onlymagnifies existing problemslike pings, hard starts, sluggishperformance or rough idling. Make

sure your vehicle is mechanicallysound before the temperature dipsand the streets get icy. Make certainthe engine is in peak condition. Also check the cooling system.Coolant should be replacedper the vehicle manufacturersmaintenance schedule.

    * Be on schedule. Have yourmotor oil changed regularly. Usethe specified weight and grade ofoil recommended by your vehiclemanufacturer. Also make sure to

check that the heating/defrostingsystem is working properly.

    * Be prepared. Prepare forpotential winter emergencies byusing your trunk as a storageplace for emergency items.Important items to have on handinclude: a properly inflated sparetire; ice scraper; windshield de-icer; flashlight; blanket; extraclothes; bottled water; cell phonecar charger and non-perishablesnacks.

    * Be on the defensive. Take adefensive position against winter

driving conditions, and take careof your tires. Once it gets cold, tire tread and pressure shouldbe checked weekly. A tires PSI

measurement can drop onepound for every 10-degree drop intemperature. If snow and ice area problem in your area, considerinstalling winter tires, which arespecially designed to grip slickroads.

    * Be diligent. Use common senseduring adverse road conditions.Reduce your driving speed, andincrease your following distance inhazardous winter weather. If youget stuck in the snow, dont spin

your tires -- this can overheat themand possibly cause damage. Usesand, gravel, kitty litter, an asphaltshingle or other gritty items tohelp your tires gain traction whenstuck.

    THE GREAT CAR DEBATE: TO

    BUY OR TO LEASE?

(NewsUSA) - As the economycontinues to rebound, more Americans find themselvesstrolling the lot of their local cardealership and facing a difficultdecision -- whether to buy or leasea new vehicle.

Both options have their pros andcons, said Joe Wiesenfelder, senior editor at Cars.com. It reallydepends on your personal drivinghabits, the amount of money yourewilling to spend and how often youlike driving a new car.

Wiesenfelder offers these tips forcar shoppers:

    Benefits of Leasing

    1. Driving a New Car. Leasingallows you to get a new carfrequently. While this may not bethe best reason to get a car, it doesmean youll always have the latestsafety technology and comforts.

    2. Affordability. With leasing, youre getting more car for a lowermonthly payment.

    3. Less Maintenance. Leasingcan help you avoid some heftymaintenance and repair bills. With the exception of a few oilchanges and filter replacements, there should be no need for anyheavy maintenance. Assumingthat youve kept the car in goodcondition and stayed within themileage limits, when your lease isup, you can simply turn the car inand walk away.

    4. Avoid Upside-down Loans.

When you lease, you there isno danger of getting stuck in an

upside-down loan, where youowe more than the car is worth.

    Benefits of Buying

    1. Ownership of the car. Whenyou buy a car, you own the vehicland will eventually be free of capayments.

    2. Lower Costs in the Long Run.While the monthly paymentsfor buying a car are higher thanpayments for leasing, you willeventually pay the loan off. Thosinitial high payments make up fothemselves with years of beingpayment free.

    3. No Restrictions. A lease contraccontains many restrictions, suchas mileage limits, which may binconvenient and costly in the longrun. An owner can sell at any time, while leases usually include heftypenalties for early termination.

    4. Rebates and Incentives.Rebates and incentives for newcars are abundant for buyers righnow. In some cases, these offersmight make buying a significantly

    less expensive option thanleasing.

For many people, the decision tbuy or lease comes down to price, says Wiesenfelder. We encouragpeople to use our automatic Loanvs. Lease calculator at Cars.com.By entering in the monthly paymentyou can afford, youll get an ideof which car you could afford town, or if leasing is a better optionfor you.

ITS NEVER TOO LATE TOIMPROVE YOUR HEALTH

Healthy eating and regulaexercise will give you energy andhelp you lower your chances fodeveloping diseases such asdiabetes and heart disease.

The Weight-control InformationNetwork (WIN), a service of thNational Institute of Diabetes andDigestive and Kidney Diseases(NIDDK) of the National Institutesof Health, offers the following tipsfor older adults:

    Healthy Eating

TIPS FOR PLANNING A WINE TOUR

    FOR YOUR NEXT SPECIAL EVENT

(NewsUSA) - If youre looking for aunique way to mark an occasion, spend time with friends andfamily or even host a work event, consider a wine tour. Most wineriesare open year round and cater togroups of all sizes. Consider thefollowing to help you plan:

    * Choose a theme: Manywineries have theme weekendsthroughout the year that celebratechanging seasons, holidays, localhappenings and new vintages.Start with an invitation and thenplan everything from food to musicaround your theme.

    * Location, location, location: Makeit convenient and choose your tourdestination based on the numberof wineries and hotels in onearea. The Finger Lakes Region inNew York is home to more than

200 wineries spread along fiveorganized wine trails that maketouring easy.

Travel resources such as www.tourcayuga.com can help visitors

map out their route, learn moreabout a specific trail or find thingsto see and do along the way -- evenpoint you to wineries off the beatenpath. Other growing wine regionssuch as Napa and Sonoma Valley,Calif., and the Niagara regionfound between Western New YorkState and Southern Ontario offermore than 50 wineries for visitorsto choose from.

    * Leave it to the professionals: Ifyou dont know the area, schedulea guided tour. Many Inns and

bed and breakfasts, for example, provide overnight packagesthat include private, luxury wineexcursions (as well as picniclunches and other wine themedsurprises). Check out Aurora InnsWine Country Getaway packageat www.aurora-inn.com or 10Fitchs Spoiled Girls GetawayPackage at www.10fitch.com.

    * Get in on the action: Dont justtaste the wine, be part of theprocess. Call the wineries youplan to visit in advance to see

how you can roll up your sleevesand get involved in everythingfrom the picking to the stomping. For example, Heart & HandsWine Company on the CayugLake Wine Trail in Union Springs,

New York, offers an annualCrush Camp. Work alongsidthe winemaking team by pickingfruit, sorting and pressing grapes, performing lab analysis and eventhe cleaning!

    * Make it a lasting memory: Taka photo of your group, and turn iinto a unique wine label for youfavorite wine bottles, or hand themout as inexpensive souvenirs.Photo coasters are another fun, affordable way to remember youtour. Host a tasting event at you

own home, and ask friends tshare their favorites.

Wine touring can be a fun, uniqueand inexpensive way to spendday with friends, loved ones orlarge group. Dont wait until thlast minute to book your tour oovernight reservations, particularlyin the peak months of June throughOctober. Try to plan midweek tavoid big crowds. Saturday is thbusiest day at most wineries.
