Palm Sunday
April 9, 2017 8:00 a.m.
AS WE GATHER So it all comes down to this. “It all” is the history of our Lord’s
incarnation, birth, preaching, teaching, healing, calling disciples, and now, “to this”—Jesus
coming to His goal in Jerusalem. This Sunday is so full of meaning that it cannot even be
succinctly summarized. The meaning of it all unfolds before us as we spend an entire
week, cheering the King at His triumphal entry, then gathering with Him in the
suspenseful quiet of the Upper Room, then the garden, then His arrest, then the trials,
and ultimately the cheers turn into jeers and He reaches His goal in Jerusalem. He dies.
Only knowing who Jesus really is and the reason for His death, only in knowing the
purpose of God’s Law can we discover the joy of the Gospel, the good news of the
forgiveness of our sins, new birth and new life—eternal life! That spiritual knowledge
gives us the stamina to endure this week and the rest of our lives.

priorities in our lives. It is our intent to say and do that which honors You. For

Him in the way that leads to eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Isaiah 50:4-9a
The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that
sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen
like one being taught. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not been
rebellious; I have not drawn back. I offered my back to those who beat me, my
cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking
and spitting. Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced.
Therefore, have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. He
who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each
other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me! It is the Sovereign Lord who helps
me. Who is he that will condemn me?

HOLY GOSPEL: John 12:12-19
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twelfth chapter.
The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on
his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him,
shouting, "Hosanna! " "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed
is the King of Israel!" Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
"Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a
donkey's colt." At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was
glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they
had done these things to him. Now the crowd that was with him when he called
Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went
out to meet him. So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us
nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"

Sharing the Caring Christ with All People John 12:12-19: Hosanna: Lord, save us now! That’s not the cry of many people in the world around us, is it? Most people don’t know they need saving, and what would they need
saving from? Taxes, maybe?! From higher prices, we wish! War, crime, corrupt government, terrorism, dangerous storms, we could make a long list of
dangers, but do we really need to cry out, “Hosanna” from any of them? When it comes to sin, death and the devil, we do! Only Jesus is the answer to those villains who are seeking our very soul. Jesus has come to save us now. Wave your palm branches for Him alone. Hosanna! He is present always to save us - now. And that’s a word we can share with the world around us. Why not take a palm branch from today’s worship and let someone know why Jesus is the One who has come to stay with you - and the One who will stay with them to save!

They are $14…See Pastor Dave! Doors will open for the Silent Auction at 11:30 a.m. that day and the meal will be served from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. Several student groups will provide the entertainment which will be followed by the Live Auction concluding by 2:30 p.m. Please come and join in this important event for our school!
LCEF If you would like to be saving money for your child or grandchild, with an interest rate of 3.5%, then you should open up a Young Investor account thru LCEF. It only takes $25 to open up an account and no minimum on the child's age. You can also receive a reimbursement of $25 through the church for signing your child/grandchild up. The Sunday School at Trinity will be returning to a traditional structure next fall. Please volunteer today to help! We have a need for 8 – 10 people to teach and help with our classes. Prayerfully consider giving your time to this educational ministry.
Pastoral Call Committee Update The Pastoral Call Committee held an organizational meeting on March 23, 2017. As you all know by now, Pastor Paul will be retiring at the end of September, which will create a Pastor vacancy at Trinity. An informational meeting was held on March 13th, with Pastor Fondow, President of the MN North District, to discuss the procedure and process that is involved in making a “Call.” Also assisting our Church will be Circuit Pastor, Pastor Brady Finnern from Messiah Lutheran Church in Sartell. Jeff Cziok and Jon Lenz will Co-Chair the Call Committee process at Trinity. The Call Committee includes the following members: John Copeland, Justin Hackett, Bob Terpstra, Thia Terpstra, Clinton Wenger, Judy Lazer, Karen Petron-Broda, Daniel
Reineke, Lucie Schwartzkopf, Raquel Alstrup, Joanne Keck Craig Cooper, and John Sprengler. Please feel free to contact them if you have any questions or concerns. We will be asking the congregation for their assistance, namely to identify goals for Trinity, and also identify Pastoral expectations. The Call Committee will additionally be asking the congregation to “Nominate a Pastor for Consideration,” if they wish, and to assist with our “Self-Study.” This process began on April 2nd, and the congregation will have 3 weeks to complete these items. The Pastoral Nomination forms can be found in the church office. The “Self-Study” forms are in your bulletin today, and all forms should be turned into the office, or placed in the offering plate by April 23rd. During this time, we ask you for your prayers, guidance, and assistance. We ask that you keep Pastor Paul and Nancy in your prayers as they transition into a new adventure. Teaching Position Open: The Board of Directors of Prince of Peace Lutheran School announces we are seeking qualified candidates for the position of First Grade teacher. Applicants must have or be eligible to have a teaching license from the state of Minnesota. More importantly, the candidate

What is a “good death?” Have you ever heard someone suggest the notion of a “good death?” Have you ever heard yourself uttering the words “I would never want to die like that,” or “I hope I leave this world like he did.” Maybe you have been involved in difficult end-of-life decisions for a loved-one in a hospital setting wondering if you are doing the right thing. End of life decisions can be difficult, but they don’t need to be as difficult as they often are. There are things we can do to plan-ahead. There are conversations we can have to make our passing from this world to the next less traumatic for our loved-ones. We invite you to come to an event to begin that discussion. The Convenings is based on a series of remarkable broadcast conversations Minnesota Public Radio’s Cathy Wurzer had with University of St. Thomas Dean Bruce Kramer and their book “We Know How This Ends: Living while Dying.” Kramer died in 2015 after living with ALS. Mission Goal Reaches New Heights! ST. LOUIS, April 3, 2017 -- The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) announced the LWML
2015-2017 Mission Goal of $2 million was met and surpassed! President Patti Ross shared, "Praise and thanksgiving to God! Through Mite Box
offerings and generous responses to our Lord's blessings, LWML will be able to fund all 19 grants chosen by the Des Moines Convention in 2015. In humble adoration and with praise to our faithful God, we dedicate these dollars to Him for the work of missionaries and ministries around the world who work to spread the saving message of Christ's love and forgiveness." Mission offerings sent with the postmark of March 31, 2017, will be applied to this mission goal, so a final accounting will be available in a few weeks.

We are glad you are here! If there is a time during the Worship Service that you feel your child (or you) needs a “time out,” please feel free to leave the service. If you leave the service, you can go to the lobby or use the large conference room across from the church office. The conference room has speakers and one-way glass so you can still participate in Worship. During the Sunday school hour, (9:15am – 10:15am) and during the 10:30am worship service the nursery is staffed for children 0-3 years old. The nursery is in the preschool on the north end of the building. It is the first classroom on the left as you enter the preschool parent lounge area. There are also speakers in the nursery so you can listen to the service. Activity bags for young children to use are in the plastic tub outside the church office. FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, WE OFFER THESE AND OTHER SERVICES: Large Print Editions of our bulletins are available from our ushers by request. If you need further information, ask any usher or church member. Also be sure to stop by the Information Desk in the lobby. Your needs are important to us! Bible Study for Adults on Sundays: we start at 9:15am in the fellowship hall. Coffee & Fellowship – after the 8:00am service, come by the kitchen, have a cookie, coffee and time for fellowship.
