Holy Gospel: Luke 11:37-44

P The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the eleventh chapter.

37 While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at table. 38 The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. 39 And the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. 40 You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you. 42“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”

Offering (Please sign and date the Rite of Friendship pad located in the pew. The children are invited to bring their offerings to the front at this time.)

Prayer Of The Church

Preface P The Lord be with you.

P Lift up your hearts.

P Let us give thanks unto the Lord.

P It is truly meet, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places

give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God. In the communion of all Your saints gathered into the one body of Your Son, You have surrounded us with so great a cloud of witnesses that we, encouraged by their faith and strengthened by their fellowship, may run with perseverance the race that is set before us and, together with them, receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

About Holy Communion—The Lord’s Supper is celebrated here in the belief and

glad confidence that our Lord gives us as He says, not only bread and wine, but His

very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen

our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to His table those who

trust His words, repent of all sin, and forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. If

this is your belief, we welcome you to join us at the Lord’s table.

Because we are called to examine ourselves before receiving the Lord’s Supper (I

Corinthians 11:28-29), we encourage you to consider the questions on p. 329-330 in

the front of the hymnal. If you are communing with us for the first time, or if you

would like a fuller understanding of what we as Lutherans believe about the Lord’s

Supper, please pick up a copy of “What is the Lord’s Supper?” at the Information

table in the entryway.

Please reserve the white grape juice cups in the center of the communion trays for

those who for health reasons are unable to drink wine. If your health requires gluten-

free wafers, they are available upon request. Speak to the pastor prior to the service.

Our pastor is happy to speak to you further if you have any questions.

Stewardship Corner: Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are

those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” You only

hunger and thirst for what you don’t have. Jesus has come to fill us up with righteousness – His

own righteousness. He is the self-giving Lord whose sacrifice in-

spires us to be givers, too.

Angel Tree Sunday will be on Sunday, December 1st, names of children and gift ideas will be available in the Narthex on the tree. members of Trinity for your

cards, gifts and words of appreci-

ation extended to us during Pas-

Lord and his people at Trinity.

Paraphrasing the Apostle Paul as

he wrote to the Philippians (1:3-

partnership in the gospel…We are

sure that He who began a good work

in you will bring it to completion at
