Grateful Stewardsof God’s Gifts . . .

“Come to me, all you who labor and areburdened, and I will give you rest,” Matthew 11:28

Many people say this is their favorite saying of Jesus, andit is a verse I turn to again and again. I remember when Ifirst felt as if it were spoken to me. Up at night for the fourthtime with my baby crying, I was exhausted and completelyoverwhelmed as I tried to calm her. Somehow I heard, “Cometo me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will giveyou rest.” Rest! I closed my eyes and imagined coming tohim, coming to his understanding, to his welcome. I took adeep breath and let his love wash over me. It was only amoment, but it made a difference. I wasn’t alone. I likeknowing that so many others turn to this passage inburdened, laboring times. Let us encourage one another tocome to his love and rest. An excerpt from Living With Christ

As a child, I would go to God when I was frightened. I couldimagine that he was sitting on a throne, white robes flowingaround him, angels attending to him. He was beckoningme to come to him, and I would crawl into his arms and lethim hold me. I would feel the warmth and comfort of hislove. In my turbulent childhood I would go there many times.I did not know the verse above, but I knew he would takecare of me. I can still see the vision I would conjure up andI sometimes go there and rest in his love. God is alwaysthere for us, his love is always there, free from conditions, all we have to do is open our hearts and minds to him.

We can be an extension of God’s love to others in the hereand now. There are people that we can help if we choose. Itmight be the person sitting next to us in the pew at Mass,a coworker in our office, or a neighbor down the street, wehave to be open to sharing our love of God with others. If weknow and love God and don’t share this with others, are webeing good Catholics, good Christians? Living a life as Godcalls us to live is a life of service, thinking about others andnot just our circle of family and friends but reaching outbeyond that. This could be something like going on amission trip in another country, or to one in our own city, toraising money for a good cause, helping the homeless, orpraying for those who need our prayers. Whatever we chooseto do, we must choose something. We can always bemindful of the saying, “What would Jesus do?” We probablyall know the answer to that question.

Grief SupportMinistry

After the death of a loved one, we may feel dazed andconfused and these feelings can last quite a while. Ouremotions can be like a rollercoaster, up one day and downthe next. Sadness is overwhelming. Grief is a powerfulemotion, daunting at times and bearable at others.Unfortunately, grief is an emotion that we must go through ifwe love someone that dies. One of the best ways to helpwith grief is to talk about our feelings. Holy Souls will offer agrief support group where everything that is said is kept inconfidence. A person can share if they want or listen, noone is forced to talk. The group will begin on Thursday,September 27th at noon in the Parish Hall in room 1. Thegroup will meet for 11 weeks for 1 hour and a light lunch willbe provided. There will be a charge of $20 to cover expenses. If you would like to attend Holy Souls Grief Support Group, contact [email protected] or call Laura in the churchoffice for more information.

If you have access to a computer or like to send cards ormake phone calls, we need you! A part of the HospitalityMinistry can be done in the comfort of your home. If you can join this committee, please [email protected]. We need members.
