Daily Delta Living with a Purpose The Purpose of Delta Delta Delta shall be to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way. It shall also be the Purpose of Delta Delta Delta to promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the Fraternity and the colleges and universities where the Fraternity has established chapters, to develop qualities of unselfish leadership among its members, and to encourage them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of college women. OCTOBER 2015 At the start of the semester, our chapter went through spirit week, followed by formal recruitment. The hard work, long days, and lost voices clearly paid off as we welcomed home a new pledge class of 62 amazing girls. Our “Delta Delta Delta Wonderland” theme was a hit, thanks to the effort of our sisters. We celebrated with lots of food, dancing, and pictures. THE DAILY DELTA OCTOBER 2015

T h e O l d … Months go by that are filled with fun, exciting, and creative ideas

and events that benefit both our philanthropy and sisterhood.

The sisters of Delta Delta Delta had anxiously waited to become sponsors, also known as “bigs,” ever since they themselves became littles. However, being a big is no small task. The girls who become sponsors must serve as mentors and role models for the newest pledge class. The new members each voted on who they wanted as their sponsors, and on the night of September 1st, their sponsors were revealed to them. Big/little reveal is a fun and unique annual event in which the new PC wait to see who their big sister will be. The week prior to this event, bigs are kept a secret, and they surprise their littles with gifts. This year, the bigs hid in human-sized boxes, while the littles had to go to each box and sing a song written by their bigs. The night was filled with laughter, singing, and tears of joy. Bigs have helped guide littles through the new member process, initiation, and the daily struggles and adventures of college life, and will continue to do so for the years to come.

In addition to raising money for our own philanthropy, we

also support the philanthropic efforts of other Greek life on campus. Every year, Zeta Tau Alpha hosts a dance

competition called Lip Sync, which benefits Breast Cancer

Education and Awareness. During this dance-off, the newest pledge classes of the sororities and fraternities who wish to

participate each perform a routine that they have prepared

and practiced for several weeks. Our chapter is proud to say

that our sisters won first place in the dance competition! The girls all worked very hard and their effort has clearly

shown. Although practices were often long and demanding,

it was an amazing bonding experience that allowed members of PC’15 to work closely together to achieve

something incredible.

THE DAILY DELTA OCTOBER 2015

… A n d t h e N e w

Every year, one of the events we look forward to most is a military-themed grab-

a-date, better known as Draft-a-Date. Sisters choose the dates they want to bring

to this social event, whether it be a friend, roommate, significant other, or sibling. It is tradition to have dog tags made that spell out the name and date of the

event, and the name of the sister doing the “drafting.” The draftees are always

ecstatic to be asked, and it is a great way to branch out and meet new people. Everybody dresses up in anything having to do with camouflage, military, or the

army, and takes several busses to the selected venue. It is one of our favorite

traditions and something that is special and unique to our chapter.

Initiation Week

Draft-a-Date

September 28th to October 3rd

October 16th, 2015

We kicked off the week of initiation with Pearl Night on September 28th, where bigs stood with their littles and performed a ceremony from our ritual, in which members are meant to reflect on the kind of Tri Delta they wish to be, and what this sisterhood means to them. Pine Night followed on the 29th, where seniors told stories of how and why TriDelta’s symbols were chosen, and what each of them represents. The next night, Pansy Night, littles received “pass-it-down” baskets from their bigs, which consisted of shirts, albums, lock-boxes, or any other items that their sorority family considers “tradition.” Finally, on October 2nd, was the first night of Initiation. New members further explored the meaning of everything that Delta Delta Delta is and everything that it stands for, while truly beginning to realize the importance of our sisterhood. All of PC’15 had a giant sleepover in the house where they were able to talk and bond with each other all night long. Bright and early the next morning, they took the final step of becoming initiated: the Stars and Crescent degree. After eight weeks of the New Member Program, the ladies of the pledge class of 2015 officially became sisters of Delta Delta Delta. To celebrate, the entire chapter went to an Initiation brunch at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando, where bigs revealed the personalized jerseys they had made for their littles, and littles revealed the paddles they had created for their bigs. Needless to say, there were a lot of tears, laughs, and memories made.

Delta Delta Delta officially adopted St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as its national philanthropic partner in November 1999. To date, we have raised more than $40 million for the children of St. Jude, and the research that could save them. St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food, regardless of their financial situation, because St. Jude firmly believes that all a family should worry about is allowing their children to live the best possible life they can. The daily operating cost is an

astounding $2 million. As a result, it is only possible to keep the hospital running through funding from individual contributors. If you would like to join the cause to put an end to childhood cancer, please consider making a donation or entering in our Texas Hold’em poker tournament. Each and every donation, no matter how small, will be of significance to the children of St. Jude.
