olunteer residents who are registered

members of the Uitenhage Communi-

ty Policing Forum (CPF) operate in

close co-operation with the local police, aim-

ing to bring back law and order as well as

peace of mind to the community.

Wepatrolwhilemost of theUitenhage resi-

dents sleep. Our group of Sector Policing

patrollers are dedicated and are quite defi-

nitely making an impact in the areas

patrolled, said Pat Unsworth, Acting Chair-

person of the Uitenhage Community Policing

Forum under which the Sector Policing oper-

ates.

The Uitenhage CPF has been operating for

the past 15 years with meetings at 17:00 on

every first Thursday of each month at the

police station in Church Street. During these

CPF meetings, accurate monthly crime

statistics as well as a crime report are made

available. These statistics are also available

from Colonel Andr Swart, the Head of

Visible Policing.

We have rules and regulations to abide by.

All volunteers are screened and profiled

before they can be registered Sector Policing

members. None of our members may make

themselves guilty of physical or verbal abuse.

If they found themselves in a situation

where they were verbally abused or in physi-

cal danger, they are in radio contact with the

police and would call for assistance.

We will never support or condone brutali-

ty or abuse. Our members are the eyes and

the ears of the police and we will not let them

down.

Anyone wishing to form their own group,

will be fully responsible for themselves. The

CPF and Sector Policing are not in any way

involved with individual groups forming

their own kind of neighbourhood patrols,

said Unsworth.

The Uitenhage CPF is equipped with a first

of its kind in the country, computer pro-

gramme which was created by Sector Polic-

ing IT specialist Etienne Joubert. They also

have their own website www.uitenha-

gecpf.co.za and are on Facebook.

If you want to keep your finger on the

pulse of your community and get accurate

statistics, attend the CPF meetings. It is just

an hour of your time. Dont complain if you

dont know,we are there for you, our commu-

nity, said Unsworth.

The outdoor Uitenhage Market organised by

Women in Business has successfully relocat-

ed to the Old Concentration Camp festival

grounds on the outskirts ofUitenhage and can

now host even more stalls.

The feedback of our last market was very

good. We accommodated 135 stalls and more

than 4 000 people visited the market. This is

brilliant. Thank you to the public for their

positive attitude and support, said Lilly de

Jong from Women in Business.

Most of our stallholders have booked in ad-

vance, but there is ample space for new

stalls.

Apart from more space for stalls, the park-

ing area is enormous and the ablution facili-

ties in a neat condition. The availability of the

touch farm is a bonus, as is having Popsi the

Clown on site.

We want to thank the board members for

their support and contribution inmaking this

outdoor event a popular activity on the Uiten-

hage calendar. We especially want to thank

Kallie Calitz, Armand du Preez, Pieter Ter-

blanche and Bay FM for their support.

t is dish-up time on Saturday at the

Uitenhage Central Sports Field when

two of the towns prominent rugby clubs

will face each other in the final of the 2014

Super 12 rugby competition.

Progress and Gardens both of which went

unbeaten in their respective pools qualified

for this prestige rugby final.

We are viewing this rugby match in a se-

rious light andwill make sure that all safety

and security measures required by the Met-

ro Disaster Management office will be put

in place.

Therewill be zero tolerance regardingbad

behaviour at this rugby match, said Brian

Salters, President of Progress Rugby and

Football Club

The last time these two clubs met in 2012,

everything went well and smoothly as

Progress executive made sure all safety and

security requirements were met.

Progress will have security to assist the

police, who will be present in full force to

ensure the sporting event will be safe and

sound for all attending.

One of Progress executive members, Col-

in Agulhas, mentioned that vehicles will be

searched andno alcohol, glass objects or any

dangerous items will be allowed on the

sports grounds.

We wish to extend a stern warning to all

supporters not to make themselves guilty of

any misbehaviour.

The police will not hesitate to remove

such people from the grounds or even arrest

them, said Agulhas.

)Gates will open at 10:00 as five rugby

matches will be played. The entry fees will

be R10 for adults, R5 for kids and R10 per ve-

hicle.

everal Uitenhage bands from the past,

known for playing music from the 1960s

and 1970s, aswell as a few internationalmusi-

cians will join the stage in an effort to raise

funds for the financially stricken Uitenhage

SPCA.

Dubbed Rock the Hage bands like Day

Trippers, Dark Custard, After Dark, Tom-

boys, Caravan, Poltergeist, Buccaneers,

Satelites, CatastrophyandYetAgainwill per-

form at the Uitenhage Golf Club. There will

also be some solo as well as duo acts.

Daytripperswas formed in 1965 andwill re-

formespecially for the showwith the original

line-up. Sowill Poltergeist, formed in 1972, be

back on stage with all original members.

Dark Custard was formed during 1973 and

will reformwith two of the originalmembers.

Solo and duo acts will be by John Astbury,

John Smithies, Anton Calitz, Riaan, Brian

Macnicol and Jimmy Lemley. To mention a

few names of the well known Uitenhage mu-

sos playing there are Pierre van derWesthui-

zen, Rob Visser, Charles Bekker, Jannie

Claasen, Vic Hugo, Tizzie Gottini, Athol Stow

hosted amorning tea with the nationally re-

nowned motivational speaker Gretha Wiid.

Gretha has an Honours Degree in Sex Ed-

ucation, Educational Psychology, as well as

African Languages and Culture. She is best

described as an author, speaker, business

woman and is an inspiration to scores of

people.

The tea which was held at the Uitenhage

Town Hall was attended by 278 ladies from

Uitenhage, Despatch, Kirkwood, Port Eliza-

beth and even some from Johannesburg.

Gretha has provided the Uitenhage Lions

Club permission to sell her surplus DVDs

will be part of the Wings & Wheels

Festival to be held at the Uitenhage

Airfield during the weekend of 2729

March. It is named after Doug Davidson

who on 11 October 1992 passed away

after having a massive heart attack

whilst taking off in his Pitts Special

aircraft at the Uitenhage Airfield. Seen

Albatros high performance jet which will

be seen in action at the airshow. The

festival commences on Thursday after

noon and the airshow will be on

Saturday, 29th March from 14:00 to

15:30.

Kooperasie Horskool Kirkwood sportdag

deelgeneem. Dit was die ideale geleentheid

vir afrigters om hulle spankombinasies vir

die seisoen te finaliseer.

Die groot trekpleister was die skool se drie

rugbywedstryde teen Horskool DF Mal-

herbe. Kirkwood se o.15 rugbyspan het soos

kampioene gespeel, en dit was n ideale ver-

jaarsdag present vir afrigter Ryno Lom-

baard. Die eindtelling was 14-0 en die Kirk-

woodkannetjies het elke oomblik gebruik om

hulle oorwinning te vier.

Die hoofwedstryd was tussen die eerste

spanne van DFMalherbe en Horskool Kirk-

wood.Weereenshet dinge reggeloopvirKirk-

wood en die eindtelling was 23-0. Die tweede

span het ook hulle wedstryd teen DF Mal-

herbe gewen met 15-12.

Die fondasie is gel vir groot mededinging

hierdie jaar en kragmetings vorentoe tussen

hierdie twee skole sal met groot belangstel-

ling gevolg word.

Op die hokkieveld het die spanne van Cra-

dock, Framesby, Volkskool en Gill kragte ge-

meet.

Ook op die netbalbaan was daar baie op-

winding. Kirkwood was bevoorreg om die

bekende SA en internasionale skeidsregter

Theresa Prince tydens die sportdag in aksie

te kon sien.

Die netbalwedstryde het op n rondomtalie

basis op die vier verskillende bane plaas-

gevind. Hier het afrigters die geleentheid

gekry ommetwedstryd ruilings hulle spanne

te verander om aan die einde van die dag die

perfekte kombinasie saam te stel.

Hierdie sportdag is verseker eenvandie ge-

leenthede wat jaarliks nie gemis kan word

nie.

Make a list of what you spend. Nowadays,

Lastly, add together all your cost estimates.

If the total is more than your earnings, you

need to act. But pat yourself on the back first:

now that you know exactly where you arewith

your spending habits, youre already in a

stronger position financially.

List your expenses in order of importance.

You need accommodation, transport and food,

but consider whether you can reduce or even

eliminate some of your other expenses, such as

entertainment and clothing.

Now use the money that youve cut out of

your budget to start servicing your debt, espe-

cially credit and store card debts.

Youve got the power

Establish a basic emergency fund for unex-

pected expenses, once youre debt free. A

months salary is a good start and while it may

take awhile to buildup, itll give youa real sense

of security once you have it.

Invest some money each month for your fi-

nancial goals, like saving for your retirement

and your childrens education. This excludes

your employers pension scheme or your own

retirement investments. Also remember that

an accredited financial adviser can help you to

establish your financial needs.

more jobs than landfilling or incineration.

And a largely ignored but very important

consideration, recycling reduces our need to

dump our garbage in someone elses

D Waste this year sees its first decade

of effective waste removal and recy-

cling in Uitenhage.

As a registered recycling and waste remov-

al company its ethical and transparent opera-

tion has become well known and respected in

the Nelson Mandela Metropole.

Owners Jean and Anneli Ott started UD

Waste during 2004. The business comprises

waste management which means the collec-

tion, transport, recycling or disposal and

monitoring of waste materials. During 2013

they took over ownership of Therons Gar-

den Services, which operates on a similar

basis and serves as an expansion to UD

Waste.

Residentialwaste collectionand removal

services are provided exclusively by the

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality

or its contracted accredited service provid-

er. Thus we are not allowed to handle resi-

dential waste.

Our core business is dry waste removal

from industries, schools, hostels, businesses

and shopping centres. Currently we service

102 clients on aweekly basis, said JeanOtt,

who previously was the co-owner of Levy-

vale Spar.

According to him it is a well managed and

strict field of business and all registered

waste removals have to submit an integrat-

ed waste management plan.

Reports are mandatory and all accredited

waste reduction entities are obliged to lodge

a written report to the waste management

officer.

The recycling sections at UD Waste com-

prise cans, plastic, paper and cardboard.

UD Waste and Therons Garden Services

are registered with the Institute of Waste

Management of SouthAfrica (IWMSA)aswell

as at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Mu-

nicipality as waste transporters.

Monthly tip fees for our business is in ex-

cess of R8 000 which is paid to NMBM. Illegal

and unscrupulous waste removers do not

want to pay these tip fees. Therefore they

dump anywhere where they think they will

not be spotted.

By using registeredwaste removal compa-

nies you are directly contributing to combat-

ing the scourge of illegal dumping by unscru-

pulous waste removers.

We are looking forward to high fines of be-

tween R3 000 and R5 000 being implemented

for illegal dumping, said Ott.

These fines are issued to the owners of the

waste as well as the person dumping it.
