UHF-FM Synth. Power Transmitter 70TX-E2 The 70TX-E2 is a professional 500mW narrow band FM radio transmitter according to EN 300113 and has been improved in many respects compared to its predecessor 70TX-E. The innovative concept combines the advantages of the DDS with those of the synthesizer in a unique way. The signal digitization offers a resolution of 12 bit. Further signal processing is completely digital. The result is an almost perfect RF signal with excellent transmission characteristics for both analog and digital signals. The package volume was reduced by 50% compared to the 70TX-E. The 70TX-E2 is now one of the smallest synthesizer UHF transmitter modules with 500 mW transmission power. The module is therefore particularly suitable for portable and mobile applications. At the same time, the power requirement dropped by more than 10% at full transmission power. To optimize power consumption, the integrated SPI interface can be used to reduce transmission power from 500 mW to 1 mW. Other parameters can also be changed during operation via SPI (frequency and start channel). The RF power amplifier is largely immune to mismatch at the antenna due to extensive protective measures. When changing the operating states (power on and frequency change) usually occurs broadband interferences (called transients), which hinder the simultaneous use of multiple radio links in the near area. With the 70TX-E2, even the adjacent channels are not disturbed under these conditions. Together with the short settling time, the module is therefore predestined for use in TDMA or frequency hopping applications. The two available standby modes reduce the startup time and the amount of the required components to a minimum. In combination with our 70RX-M2 or 70RX-S2 receivers, very long range radio systems can be set up for simplex or half-duplex operation. Together with our control module FSM24 the free field range is over 5000 meters. When changing the operating states (power on and frequency change) usually occurs broadbandinterferences (called transients), which hinder the simultaneous use of multiple radio links in

the near area. With the 70TX-E2, even the adjacent channels are not disturbed under these

conditions. Together with the short settling time, the module is therefore predestined for use in

TDMA or frequency hopping applications. The two available standby modes reduce the startuptime and the amount of the required components to a minimum.

In combination with our 70RX-M2 or 70RX-S2 receivers, very long range radio systems can beset up for simplex or half-duplex operation. Together with our control module FSM24 the free field

range is over 5000 meters.

Interface description:

Mute not connected at this module

RSSI Input: Power saving in standby mode (internal pullup to 3.0V)

Pin open = power saving off (17mA, settling time 4 ms)

Pin to ground = power saving on (< 250uA, settling time 25 ms)

Audio not connected at this module

TX/RX Input: Standby function (internal pullup to 3.0V)

Pin open = standby mode, RF power off (17 mA or < 250 uA)

Pin to ground = transmit mode (TX), RF power on (290 mA at 6 V)

There is no timing to consider. The module generally suppresses the occur-rence of transients when operating states change. The module only needs to

be put into standby mode before the supply voltage is switched off.

Vdd Input: Power supply of the module

4,7 – 8.0 V DC stabilized, minimum voltage 4.5 V, absolute maximum

voltage 12.0 V (only allowed with duty cycle), internal low noise and low drop

voltage stabilization to 4.6 V, no reverse voltage protection

MOD Input: Modulation (analog or digital)

TTL compatible 5 Vpp (with a DC Offset of 2.5 V or AC coupled)

The input is DC capable. Shifting of the DC-Offset therefore changes thetransmission frequency. The unconnected input has a DC offset equal to halfthe nominal modulation voltage. Either the incoming modulation signal musthave the same DC offset or be coupled via a capacitor (we recommend 1uF).However, a capacitor cuts off low frequencies of the spectrum. The nominaldeviation of 2.4 kHz is achieved at a modulation voltage of 5 Vpp. A lowermodulation AC voltage reduces the available deviation of the module.

LD Output: Lock detect indicator (open collector)

This output indicates if the synthesizer is locked (3.0 V if locked, else 0.0 V).

GRD Ground of the module (also connected to the metal case)

D0 – D7 Frequency setting, based on the bit pattern (internal pullup to 4.5 V)

Output of the lowest possible frequency if not connected. Grounding of theweighted pins D0 - D7 rises the frequency stepwise (f.e. at 12.5 kHz raster:D0 12.5 kHz, D1 25 kHz, D2 50 kHz,..., D7 1.6 MHz). The easiest way of theimplementation is a DIP-switch which is connected to DO – D7 and groundedon the other side. The corresponding table to set up your desired frequency isavailable on our homepage.
