THE HISTORY OF UNIMAX TOYS

 Arthur Chan founded Unimax Toys in 1975 and set out on what has become a journey that

has provided consumers worldwide with innovative high-quality toys, and retailers & other

business partners an honest, trustworthy, partner they have come to rely upon to deliver on

every promise.

In 1975 Hong Kong was emerging as the toy capital of the world. Customers from every

country visited Unimax in search of value priced products. Unimax promised every customer

they could count on Unimax products to be both innovative and of the highest quality. We

knew this combination would deliver long-term success for customers and for Unimax.

What began as a promise, …innovation, quality, and delivery… is now the bedrock principalunder which Unimax has operated for over thirty years.

SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP

While UNIMAX TOYS has grown and evolved, the consistency of our promise has not changed.

Initial product lines were designed for preschool children and Unimax became well known as a

marketer of preschool products. In 1992 Playmates Toys, rich from the success of the Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles, was looking for a successful partner for their own growing line of preschool

and basic doll lines. Playmates found that partner in Unimax Toys. Today, Playmates continues its

minority position and as a result both companies have prospered. Unimax has matured into a

successful developer and distributor of trademark toy lines all their own---as well as licensedprograms offered through mass-market and specialty toy and hobby retailers worldwide.

 A QUALITY LICENSEE PARTNER 

Over the years, UNIMAX TOYS has partnered with major licensors to successfully launch brands in

both the mass market and the specialty toy markets. Current licensors include: Anne Geddes, General

Motors, Lockheed-Martin, Bell, Boeing and Northrop-Grumman. We have also enjoyed licenses with

Sesame Street Workshop, Universal Studios, and the widely distributed American Baby Magazine.

PROVEN LICENSE SUCCESS – MASS MARKET

The successful launch of Anne Geddes Babies demonstrate an ability to deftly work with licensors andretailers to meet the needs of both. In 1996, Anne Geddes was enjoying a substantial business selling high

quality books and greeting cards featuring images of babies in a variety of animal and flower outfits. Unimax

approached the Geddes Group with the idea of recreating her images as dolls. The Geddes Group wanted toexpand their business to include dolls but was concerned that the distribution of the dolls in the mass market

would hurt the specialty card and book business. Unimax approached Target Stores about an exclusivelaunch of the Anne Geddes Baby Bunnies and developed a storewide promotion of all Anne Geddes products

including books, cards and dolls for a strategic launch at Easter 1997. Unimax & Anne Geddes believed that

Target’s upscale mass-market image would protect the Brand and that Target’s feature of the Anne Geddesproperty could propel the volume and awareness substantially. The launch was a win-win. Target sold over

523,000 pieces of the Baby Dolls ($20 retail) in 1997.

The Geddes Group was subsequently approached by other, larger toy manufacturers (Mattel, Playmates…)

but after evaluating Unimax’ performance and overall partnership, rejected their proposals outright. Unimax

later rolled out the Anne Geddes Baby Dolls to Toys R Us in 1998, Kmart & Kaybee in 1999, and Wal-Mart in2000. On Thanksgiving weekend 2002, Kaybee sold 44,000 pieces of a select SKU. The Anne Geddes

Group’s confidence in Unimax has paid off handsomely.

PROVEN LICENSE SUCCESS – SPECIALTY RETAILERS

Unimax was selected by Sesame Street Workshop to launch Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat in 2002.Sesame Street Workshop, PBS, & Cinegroupe have a long-term strategy for Sagwa. In year one they

wanted distribution in the specialty toy market. Then in year two they wanted to maintain the

specialty market but also introduce unique new products to the mass market. Unimax demonstratedthe ability to deliver in both markets. Panache Place, Inc., (wholly owned subsidiary) focuses on

distributing and marketing products to the specialty toy, hobby, and specialty doll retailers. Sesameawarded the Sagwa property to Panache Place and the brand launched at FAO Schwarz, Zany Brainy,

and hundreds of independent toy stores.
