On Saturday, June 22 we all headed over to Admiral Baker Field for our annual Royal Lederle picnic and had much warmer weather than in the past, when we were near Mission Bay with the June gloom. We had a great turnout, good food, fun games and great fellowship. We look forward to seeing you all at our next picnic near the end of September. One last thing I would like to ad- dress is ways in which our brethren that are unable to make it to Lodge could help us out. Lately we have been fortunate to have several new mem- bers join our lodge, but to be honest with you brethren, we need more. One of the best ways you could help us out, in your inability to attend, would be to talk about Freemasonry to men you come in contact with and refer Good Men to us. It is unfortunate to see only about 5% of a lodge this size turn out for our stated meetings. If it is your attitude that is keeping you away per- haps you should consider looking with- in yourself, masonry teaches us to overcome that. It's a difficult subject to talk about but I have to say this breth- ren, "We need your help." However you can assist us, we can use it. A lodge this size should not have few people doing most of the work. We joined a Fraternal Brotherhood.....don't forget that. Fraternally, James B. Glunt Master Unity Lodge #632 Greetings everyone, I hope your sum- mer is beginning with a good start....I know mine is. This past month has been a rather busy one for the lodge and once again I look back and wonder where the month went. We started out on June 1st with a Child ID event at Wings over Gilles- pie along with the Lodge donating our dining room and parking lot to the local Community Event called Art on Adams. I supervised the event and was impressed with all the various forms of artwork that were being displayed on our property. I was also amazed at the number of people that walked through our space to observe the artists and their work. I hope we con- tinue with this event next year as it is a great way to promote Unity Lodge in a positive manner. I was able to make it out to Gillespie Field on Sunday, June 2nd and assist with the Child ID event where I saw Worshipful Terry Allison, PM, Worshipful William Romer, PM, Brother Bob Creager, Brother Steve Bumgarner and Brother Gra- ciano Amazola manning the Child ID Booth. On Saturday, June 8th Wor. Steve Shultz, PM, Wor. John Gowen, PM, Bro. Steve Bumgarner and myself attended a workshop at Point Loma Lodge. It was on the 3rd Degree and was performed by the Assistant Grand Lecturer and the Inspec- tors of the local Masonic Districts. They are fine tuning a publication that will be released later this year which will specify every move made in administering the 3rd Degree. It was very informative and quite a show to see the degree performed by so many professionals. On June 10th we Initiated one of our Junior Warden's (Steve Bumgarner) son, Ryan Garner. It was a pleasure to see Bro. Bumgarner preside over the cere- mony and Initiate his son into Freema- sonry. On June 12th as part of our Stat- ed Meeting program we celebrated the birthdays of Willamae Heitman (93 yr.) and Lillian Logg (91 yr.) and then pro- ceeded into the Lodge Room where we awarded five $1000 scholarships on behalf of Unity Lodge #632 to assist young men and women in forwarding their education. Congratulations: Taryn Kilgore, Rebecca Wolfson, Isaac Cooper, Joseph Bowman, and Wade Colburn on receipt of your Scholarships and we wish you the best in your future studies. On Saturday, June 15th Unity Lodge #632 Awarded Brother Robert "Bob" Creager with the prestigious Hiram Award. I have never seen so many peo- ple turn out for an event at our lodge, as there were over 150 people in at- tendance, to share and witness Brother Creager receive his Hiram Award for his dedicated service to the Fraternity and the Lodge. It was an honor for me to present Brother Creager with the Hiram Award. As few know, he investigated me on my entrance into Freemasonry. Congratulations once again Brother Creager and thank you on behalf of Unity Lodge and all of it's brethren for your continued hard work and dedicated service to our Lodge and the Fraternity. I would like to thank all of the Brethren that helped make the event such a great success. The Trestleboard

We kicked off the month of June by honoring our scholarship awardees at our stated meeting dinner on June 12. Alt-

hough I was not able to participate in their selection this year, it is a function of the lodge that I have a lot of pride in and it’s an area I have helped grow and I enjoy seeing it succeed. The scholarships Unity Lodge provides is money WELL

spent as we invest in not only the future of these young people but it’s also a positive influence on the world in which we live and indirectly benefits us all.

I always wondered how many people we could feed and handle in the dining room and until the Hiram Award Dinner on June 15, I thought it was about 100. Well we served close to 150 people at Bob Creager’s Hiram Award Dinner and I am pleased by all the posi-

tive comments I have received or heard. I know the wall plaque states the maximum occupancy is 183 people in the dining room, but I don’t see how we could have fit any more than the 147 that Jahmal counted for me. I can not take credit for the dinner itself as it

was Worshipful Terry Allison that was the head cook and in charge that day. My roll was supply captain, assistant cook and fall guy (if it failed, which I am happy to report it did not). Worshipful Terry Allison pulled together the menu, enlisted the help and staged the

rollout. Let me tell you, serving 147 people hot entrees and side dishes is no easy task. Thanks also to Worshipful Mike Young the salad delivery man, his wife Billi Young who cooked the cakes and helped in the kitchen all day and still looked beautiful at dinner

time, her granddaughters Rayne and Trinity who helped finish setting the tables, run food to the hungry masses and bus tables. There was also an Entered Apprentice sighted in the kitchen, slicing and assembling the potato dishes for hours, Bro. Tommy Dones. Finally,

it was a blessing of God that he sent me the Rainbow girls from Lemon Grove Assembly #272, I NEVER would have been able to pull it off without their help in serving and cleaning up the monstrous mess that was left behind. They were angels from heaven.

So for the Lederle Picnic we tried a new location at Admiral Baker Field and I have to say I think it was a great location and a suc-cess. The games that Worshipful Robert Dockery came up with were fun and entertaining. Our Master (James) selected some great

prizes and our Senior Warden (Jahmal) manned the grill in a manner Bobby Flay would be impressed with. Finally, you all need to know just how hard our Senior Deacon (Rico) works. He was there all day for the Hiram Award and the same with the picnic. He

showed up early and worked all day in various roles, photographer, food prep, setup and cleanup just to name a few. We are ALL very lucky to have Rico Castelo as a brother at Unity Lodge, I know I am.

On tap for July, we get a visit from the Sojourner’s who will do a historical flag presentation while we enjoy our July Stated Meeting Dinner on July 10. I think it’s time for a Chicken entree. Saturday July 13 is the 913th Masonic District Picnic at Miramar Park. This

event is hosted by Unity, Black Mountain, Silvergate lodges and the Islanders Shrine Club featuring Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Salads,

Beans, Fruit, Lumpia, Pancet. We are also trying to put together a friendly team based competition between the 4 groups. So come out and root for your favorite lodge as Unity Lodge strives to take home the trophy. Saturday July 27 is the 913th District 2nd Degree

conferral at the West Covina Masonic Homes. It is a bit of a drive, but well worth it to see and support this event. We are also looking to do 2nd degrees at the lodge during the month as we have several candidates that are working hard on their proficiencies. So stay

tuned for the announcements of those dates. Sayōnara, Steven Bumgarner - Junior Warden

The year is flying right by at a steady pace. Happy summertime and Independence Day! What a great

event Brother Bumgarner organized for our annual Lederle Memorial Picnic. I can’t wait until the next one. We also witnessed an amazing turnout for the presentation of Brother Bob Creager’s Hiram Award.

It’s great to see the officers progress in their current roles and prepare to transition into their next one. Its equally important to have our newest Entered Apprentices join us and prepare for their next degree. Thank

you to our officers and candidates coaches for keeping us on track and spending the time with us to learn our ritual.

Speaking of next year, if any brother is interested in being an officer of the lodge next year, please inform me ASAP. There is a need for a couple of officers. I am now finalizing our lodge calendar for next year and am open to

any and all suggestions from all of you. I have a greater appreciation for all Masters who have had to plan for their year and I even had help . I’m not sure yet how our planned remodel will impact our ability to use the building,

but am going to plan business as usual and work from there. Please be sure to take a look at our current schedule of upcoming degrees and events and join us. Worshipful

Glunt, thank you for all of the good times so far this year.

Fraternally, Jahmal Neff

Senior Warden
