Useful information for sec one parents



There are 10 weeks in a term. Altogether there

are 4 terms.

Week 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will follow odd week time

table.

Week 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 will follow even weektime table.

PRIDE : Personal Responsibility In Daily Effort

The intent of PRIDE is to encourage students tolead an active lifestyle through exercise andgames during their recess time by our PEteachers in keeping fit and healthy.

PRIDE takes up 20 minutes of recess time (40minutes).

What does PRIDE stand for?



It is time set aside on Friday between 1.40and 2.40pm in the timetable for students tomeet across classes and levels to organisestudent activities.

What is Student Interaction Time for? (1/2)



It is also a time for Student Councillors/Student Leaders to meet.

Staff may also use this time to brief studentson upcoming school events and activities.

What is Student Interaction Time for? (2/2)



Yes, so that your child can do daily revision athome.

Locker rental is also available at S$28 per yearfrom Kaichi Spacemaster Pte Ltd. Applicationforms are available at the General Office.Lockers are not placed in classroom.

Must my child bring all books and fileshome every day?



For students who have PE lessons beforerecess, they can come in their PE T-shirts inthe morning (with Xinmin’s Bermuda shorts orskirt).

Students have to change back to Xinmin’s fulluniform by the end of their recess.

Can students wear PE attire for the entireday? (1/2)



For students who have PE lessons in theafternoon, they are required to come to schoolin their full uniform and change to their PEattire during recess.

For the safety of our students, if the childreports sick to their teachers, they will beaccompanied to the sick bay in the generaloffice.

Xinmin’s office staff will contact you to comedown to the school to accompany your childto see a doctor or to go home.

Does Xinmin allow my child to go home onhis/her own if he/she is not well?



Yes, before 7.30am and after 4.00 pm,anywhere in Xinmin.

However, during curriculum time (7.30 am -4.00 pm), all mobile electronic device (mobilephones, iPods, iPads, Tablets or Laptops) usageis restricted to the school canteen.

Does Xinmin allow students to use hand-phones in school? (1/3)



Hand-phones (including sim card) will beconfiscated for 2 weeks if students are foundusing them in class and school compound(except school canteen) between 7.30 am - 4.00pm.




However, hand-phones can be used in classonly if the teacher permits it as part of thelesson.




Xinmin will inform parents through yourmobile devices via the SNAAPP applicationwhich can be downloaded from the relevantapp stores. For parents who do not have smartphones, you will be alerted via SMS.

How will parents be informed if the child islate for school or is absent from school?



If the student is not at his/her class at theparade square or the classroom (on Tuesdaysand rainy days) by the end of the marchingmusic, the student will be considered late.

What is the punishment for late coming?(1/3)



1st time late : warning

2nd time late : 1 demerit point

3rd time late : 1 hour of detention after school

and 2 demerit points

4th time late onwards : 2 hours of detention afterschool and 2 demerit

points




Hand-phones will be confiscated for the entireday from late-comers. They will only be allowedto claim their hand-phones after 5pm from theHoD Discipline.




We seek your kind understanding to alwaysget a MC for your child if he/she is sick andunable to attend school.

Can parents just write a letter instead ofproviding Medical Certificate (MC) as theyhave medication at home?



If your child is sick, please consult a doctor toobtain a MC. Call Xinmin at 6 288 9382 toleave a message for the form teachers.

Your child should make 3 copies of the MCand submit to Form teachers, CCA teacher andPE teacher.

If we want to apply leave for my child,what must we do? (1/4)



If there are other forms of emergencies (e.g. thedemise of an immediate family member), pleasewrite a letter to inform your child’s form teacherabout the duration which your child needs to beaway.




We seek your understanding not to take yourchild out of school for holidays duringcurriculum time as this would have a negativeimpact on his/her studies.




For the period that your child is away, it ishis/her responsibility to catch up on his/heracademic work and assignments.

Xinmin will not be holding any make-up testsor exams in the event that your child isabsent.




Besides examinations at the end of each

semester, there will be common tests, class

tests, regular quizzes, and many other

assessments to evaluate your child’s

mastery of content and skills to monitor

his/her academic progress.

How are tests and exams like in SecondarySchool?



The subject teachers or the form teachers will

contact you if your child repeatedly fails his/her

tests.

If your child is failing in many subjects, the form

teachers will contact you over the phone and

may even invite you down to school to discuss

how we can better help your child succeed.

Will parents be informed if the child failsthe tests?



For N(A), topics covered in each subject will beslightly different as stipulated by MOEguidelines.

Assessment requirements are slightly different,as stipulated by MOE guidelines.

What is the difference between Express andNormal (Academic) besides the fact thatN(A) takes 5 years?



Students who attain an aggregate score of 11points and below for EMB3 can qualify for thePolytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP).

Students who attain an aggregate score of 19points and below for EMB3 can qualify for theDirect Entry to Polytechnic Programme (DPP)via the ITE.

What is the educational pathways forNormal (Academic) students after N levelsexaminations? (1/2)



If students are not eligible for PFP, they canchoose to take DPP or proceed to Sec 5 to takethe O-Level examinations.

What is the educational pathways forNormal (Academic) students after N levelsexaminations? (2/2)



The student has to score a minimum of 70%in the average across all subjects at the endof the year in order to be considered forlateral transfer.

What is the criteria and possibility fortransferring streams (i.e. NA to Exp, NT toNA)? (1/3)



Form and subject teachers must be confidentthat the student can cope in the higher streamand will eventually do well.




Students have to take examination papers of thehigher stream for English and Mathematics toallow the teachers to access his/her potentialand ability to cope in the higher stream.




CCAs are compulsory as mandated by MOE.

It is also mandated that students mustparticipate in a school-based CCA.

Personal activities such as ballet, pianolessons etc. cannot be counted as a student’sCCA.

Students participate in 2nd CCAs on their ownaccord and hence would have to manage theircommitments to both CCAs should theydecide to join a 2nd CCA.
