Leadership Camp he Level 3 Leadership Camp was a camp like no other. Held over 3 days and 2 nights in school, the camp was a memorable one for many of the leaders present and it struck a chord in their hearts and opened their eyes to the world around them in numerous ways, showing them filial piety, service to the community and empathy. The camp consisted of a series of trips to places like Surya Home and the Chai Chee one-room flats, as well as a hike up Bukit Timah Hill along with Dragonboating. The leaders persevered and overcame challenge after challenge, and in doing so, built strong and lasting bonds among the student leaders of Xinmin. They hope to propel Xinmin to greater heights. 今年的领袖训练营非同一般。对于参加此次露营的学生领袖来说，三天两夜的时光令他们难以忘怀，获益匪浅。大家参加了一系列多姿多彩的活动，例如到苏里亚中心和菜市路的一房式组屋做义工，一起攀爬武吉知马山并且成功登顶，以及齐心协力划龙舟等等。他们不仅从中学到了孝顺、有爱心、同理心等很多人生观和价值观，并且在之后的学习生活中学以致用。露营中，学生领袖们持之以恒的心态使他们克服种种困难，获得成功，同时学生领袖们建立起了深厚的友谊。相信本次训练营一定能使新民中学更上一层楼。

uests-of-honour, Member of Parliament of GRC Ang Mo Kio Dr Intan Azura, superintendent N1 Cluster Mr William Pushpam and superintendent W2 Cluster Mrs Kok Jeok Eng were warmly welcomed on the morning of 12th of October in conjunction with the National Malay Language Symposium for secondary school students 2013. The theme for this year’s symposium was ‘Strengthening our language and culture in the 21st century’. This meaningful event aimed to expose students to interactive learning by engaging students in discussing issues in relation to the proper usage of the Malay language and how the authentic Malay traditions are rapidly dying with advancement and development. The occasion began with inspiring speeches by our guests-of-honour and panellist speakers, gynaecologist Dr Elly Sabrina, producer and entrepreneur Mr Sujimy Mohamed and radio deejay Ria 89.7FM Mr Zhar Ismail, who is also a former Xinmin student. This symposium was then followed by a prize presentation for award-winning papers. Third was CHIJ St Joseph Convent, second was Xinmin Secondary School, and Raffles Girls’ School was the champion. After the inspirational speeches, the event proceeded with project presentations. Students from N1 and W2 clusters attended the presentations of the project topic of their choice. The event underlined the importance of preserving the Malay language and culture, and not allowing it to be neglected.

Malay Language Symposium

2013年10月12日上午，宏茂桥集选区议员Dr Intan Azura，北一校群督导Mr William Pushpam，及西二校群督导Mrs Kok Jeok Eng作为大会主宾，出席了全国中学生马来语研讨会。今年研讨会的主题是：“提升21世纪马来语语言文化”，学生通过参与讨论马来语的恰当用法，和在现今社会中马来民族传统日渐式微的现象，接触了互动式学习法。大会主宾Dr Elly Sabrina，制片人、企业家Mr Sujimy Mohamed，新民校友、著名电台主持人Mr Zhar Ismail分别为研讨会致开幕词。研讨会之后举办了颁奖典礼，冠亚季军分别为莱佛士女校、新民中学、（圣婴女中）圣若瑟。来自两个校群的学生也受邀发表了主题演讲。这一活动让我们更加了解保护马来语文化的重要性，意义深远，发人深省。

n 17th of October, the Secondary 2 students started their post-exam activities with an interesting art workshop. The art workshop was on Pointillism, a form of art that involves using dots of pure colour to form a painting. Following that, the students listened to a talk about taking art in upper secondary. Beautiful artworks done by senior art students were also showcased. The students then proceeded to the indoor sports hall for a Zumba workout session. The workout was an active and engaging one and the students had a good time with the instructors. On 18th of October, the students visited Marina Reservoir to have a day of sailing. First, they gathered near the sailboats and received a briefing from the sailing instructor. Life jackets had to be worn for safety. The students learnt about the procedures in operating the rudder and all the different ropes. The students certainly benefitted from the enjoyable experience.

he 17th of October was the start of the post-exam activities for the Secondary 1 students. On the first day, all eight classes had two art workshops comprising 3D wire sculpting and relief clay sculpturing. The students were taught by art teachers and created interesting designs for the workshops. The next day, classes 101 to 107 had a Mathematics Trail, where students were required to complete different tasks around the school in groups. There were seven stations in all and the students had to solve questions which required them to use the skills they had learnt during the year.

而中二年级也有适合自己的活动。第一天，同学们首先参加了艺术工作坊，学习点彩画法(用不同的色点排列组合作画的画法)的各种技巧，并听取了有关高年级的艺术选修科目的介绍，同时，还欣赏了选修艺术的学长们的优秀作品。随后，在教练的指导下，大家学习了尊巴舞，同学们非常喜欢这种舞蹈，纷纷带着极大的热情积极参与。第二天的活动是到滨海湾体验帆船运动。听过了教练的讲解后，大家穿上救生衣，在按照小组分配的帆船上，接受教练的指导。同学们认识了不同种类的帆，了解了船舵的操作程序，以及各种绳子和打结方法。虽然只有短短的一个半小时，却带给同学们非常特别的体验，和丰硕的收获。

年终考试结束啦！老师们为大家精心策划了许多精彩的活动。中一年级的同学们在第一天参加了两个工作坊，分别是3D铁丝雕塑和粘土浮雕。在专业的艺术老师的指导下，同学们发挥自己的想象力和创造力，创作出了姿态各异，五彩缤纷的雕塑。第二天，数学部的老师们带领大家进行了“数学之旅”，同学们分成不同的小组，运用自己平时学到的数学知识和技能，一起解决在学校探险中遇到的难题，只有正确地解答了七个问题，才能胜利到达终点。

n 17th of October, the Secondary Three students were involved in immensely fast-paced and engaging Inter-class games which lasted for three hours. The girls could participate in floorball or netball and the boys in soccer or handball. The students participated actively and put in their best efforts to do their classes proud. The students then proceeded to the multi-purpose hall after their recesses for a talk on the awareness of Women Rights by the United Nations Women Singapore Committee. The incredibly impactful documentary prompted some questions from curious pupils which were promptly replied by the UN representatives. On the 18th of October, students continued with their Inter-class games, where the top five teams vied for the top three positions. These were followed by career talks by the Singapore Maritime Academy from Singapore Polytechnic and a talk on pursuing accountancy by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. The students were provided with options and information about the various courses. It was a meaningful series of post-exam activities for the students.

中三年级的活动是更加激烈，也更有趣的班际比赛。女生可以选择参加福乐球或是无板篮球比赛，男生则是参加足球或者手球比赛。每位同学都积极参加比赛，全力为班争光。比赛过后，同学们参加了联合国妇女署新加坡委员会举办的讲座，其中播放的纪录片让同学们对妇女权利有了更深刻的了解。第二天是班际比赛的总决赛，大家激烈地争夺前三名额宝座。稍后，新加坡理工学院的海事学院和新加坡特许会计师公会举办了职业发展宣讲会，为同学们提供了各种课程的相关资料。

he 24th of October, 2013 marked a momentous step in the building of Xinmin’s Creative Arts Complex (CAC). The Gala Dinner was held at Orchard Hotel and was graced by the Guest-of-honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who voiced his approval of Xinmin’s interest in nurturing all-rounded students who are proficient in the arts, sciences and languages. The Dinner was also held to show the school’s appreciation towards those who have contributed to the school, especially the alumni. The Dinner featured spectacular performances by our award-winning performing arts groups as well as a simple yet significant cake-cutting ceremony.

2013年10月24日，对于新民中学创意艺术中心来说，是一个意义非凡的时刻。新民中学在乌节大酒店举办了创意艺术中心筹款暨答谢晚宴，并有幸请到了李显龙总理担任大会主宾。李总理十分赞赏我校为全面培养学生在各领域的才华所做出的努力。为了答谢各位大力支持学校发展的校友和各界人士，新民中学屡获殊荣的各优秀艺术团体呈现了精彩的表演，并通过简单但意义深远的切蛋糕仪式庆祝了校友会的二十岁生日。

eld on 19 November 2013, Graduation Night took place at the Kensington Ballroom in Serangoon Country Club. To the graduating students, it was a night to celebrate what they have achieved and to reminisce the years they have spent in Xinmin. It was the night every student looked forward to. Everyone was decked out in their best outfits and was dressed to impress. The atmosphere in the ballroom was joyful and filled with excitement. Many events planned by Student Councillors were lined up to entertain the graduating students. The student councillors also organised a lucky draw with prizes sponsored by the school and teachers. The 2013 Prom King and Prom Queen were Valerian and Michelle. All the best to all our seniors for their future endeavours.

2013年11月19日，新民中学的毕业晚会在实龙岗花园乡村俱乐部的肯辛顿宴会厅举行。这是大家期盼已久的时刻，同学们精心打扮，盛装出席，学生领袖策划的精彩活动为晚宴增添了欢乐的气氛，抽奖活动的丰富奖品，晚会最佳着装评选等活动，把晚会推上了一次次欢乐的顶峰。毕业生们共同追忆在学校度过的点滴时光，在今夜为自己的中学生涯画上了句号。

n 23 November 2013, Xinmin Secondary School hosted its annual Open House from 9am to 3pm. Parents and students were ushered into our Multi-Purpose Hall for a performance by our Guzheng ensemble, followed by an inspiring speech and a Q&A session by our principal, Mrs Ong Hong Peng. Thereafter, our Xinmin Chorale belted melodies to the audience. At 11:15 am, parents were given an amazing performance by our Chinese dancers. The Symphonic Band also showcased their talents on stage, before the principal gave another talk. Our English Drama students displayed their acting skills to the crowd, closing the performances with a flourish. Student Councillors took parents and students on tours around the school, including venues of CCAs as well as the booth displays of various departments.

新民中学2013年的学校开放日于11月23日举行。前来参观的家长与同学首先在礼堂欣赏了新民古筝团的悠扬华韵，之后，校长进行了宣讲与答疑。学生会各位委员分别在不同的时段，带领家长与学生参观了学校各个部门的展览，以及各项课程辅助活动的展示。除了参观以外，大家还欣赏了新民合唱团的优美歌声，新民舞蹈团的婀娜舞姿，铜乐队的精彩演奏和英文戏剧团的创意表演。
