* CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE - Hymn #462 (stz. 2)

I love to tell the story; ‘tis pleasant to repeat what seems,

each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet! I love to tell the story,

for some have never heard the message of salvation

from God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story; ‘twill be my theme in glory

to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

INTROIT Hymn of Promise N. Sleeth

* CALL TO WORSHIP

One: May the light of God’s love push back the darkness.

All: We come to the light from the four corners of the earth,

One: from the north, from the south, from the east, and from the west.

but we are all one in Jesus Christ.

All: we come from many nations and many cultures.

One: But we are all one in Jesus Christ.

All: We come seeking the light that guides us to life. One: But we are all one in Jesus Christ.

Let us lift up our many voices and praise the God of all people.

* HYMN 401 Here in This Place GATHER US IN

* CALL TO CONFESSION

One: When we see God’s beautiful holiness, we recognize our own lack of holiness.

God is light and truth, yet we live among shadows and lies.

People of God, let us acknowledge who and whose we are;

let us ask our powerful God to illumine us with grace and truth, in Jesus, our Lord.

Let us pray.

* PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All: Almighty God, so many of King David’s psalms show a heart out of tune,

sighing, crying, and breaking with sorrow, yet still clinging to faith in you.

So too, O Lord, are our hearts.

In Jesus Christ, you have given us what we need most:

his cross makes our forgiveness possible,

and his Spirit tunes our hearts again to sing your praises.

Humbly we beg your pardon for our sins.

Eagerly we plead your help to enthrone in our hearts David’s Son:

Christ Jesus, King of the universe, our Savior and Lord.

And with King David, we declare our trust in your unfailing love…

* SILENT CONFESSION

* ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: Amen. The God who challenges us is also the God who encourages us.

The God who confronts us is also the God who accepts us.

Be assured that God is with us even now, accepting, guiding, and forgiving.

All: Thanks be to God!
