V IDALIA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Dear VPC Sisters & Brothers,
One of the perquisites of being your interim pastor for over a year has been the making of many new Presbyterian friends, one of whom is Dobbie Thompson. I know all of you love Vidalia Presbyterian Church, but I don’t think any of you loves VPC more than Dobbie. Ten years ago, in July, 2007, Dobbie wrote A Tribute to “My Church”. It has been framed and will soon be displayed in the Ewell Nelson Room. Dobbie’s Tribute is a heart-felt testament of gratitude to her beloved church. Among her words of appreciation are the following: You’ve been my peaceful haven for over 60 years…You’ve given me comfort and filled my heart with renewed hope when I felt down-hearted and at the end of my rope…You’ve kept your arms around me and let me know your care.
Dobbie closed her Tribute
with the following words which prompted my rumination: Whoever led and guided me to the steps of your welcoming door, I’ll always be indebted and say, “Thanks forevermore!” I don’t know the name of the person who invited Dobbie to VPC over 60 years ago; perhaps Dobbie no longer remembers who it was. But she remembers that someone, likely more than one person, led her to VPC. My hunch is that almost all of you could say the same thing: somebody – parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors – somebody led you to VPC.
May God bless you as you invite and lead people to Christ’s beloved church, Vidalia Presbyterian. Conversely, may God bless VPC as you discern where and to whom the Spirit of Christ is leading you.
Grace & Peace,
Ron

RETURN SERVICES REQUESTED
Jacob had two wives, two concubines
(his wives maids), 12 sons and one daughter.
Who gave birth to the daughter, Dinah?
Answer: C (See Genesis 30:19-21.)
In biblical context, scales symbolize judgment,
particularly divine judgment. In Daniel 5:27, the
king is told he has been “weighed on the scales
[by God] and found wanting.” job also uses
scales as a metaphor for judgment: “Let God
weigh me in honest scales and he will know that
I am blameless” (Job 31:6, NIV). Finally scales
may represent the archangel Michael, who is
sometimes considered responsible for
“weighting” the souls of the dead.
