Academic projects 2006-2010
In this portfolio I collected some of my projects developed during my university career, in Rome and in Milan. Some projects are individual, others were worked up in small groups. The porfolio starts with the Master of Science final project, and step by step it explores all the skills I developed: research, design of small and large scale projects, hand drawings, sketches, interior design, urban design, technology, materials and restoration projects.
MASTER OF SCIENCE in ARCHITECTURE_FINAL PROJECTHousing for young people: an example of a self-building social housing with alternative technologies and unconventional con-struction elements
The project explores all the aspects of the design process: urban planning, building desing in relation to the future in-habitanhs, materials, details in 1:10 scale, economic analysis. Starting from the international competition “Figino il Borgo Sostenibile”, promoted by Fondazione Cariplo and Housing Sociale Milano, I developed with other students the master-plan of the whole area, about a social housing settlement in the suburbs of Milan. It has a car free approach, and the ur-ban design was done after a critical analysis of the area. Later we chose one building and one class of people the project was addressed to: in my case young people. The basic module is a 50 sq meters volume, which could be aggregate vertically and horizontally, creating different shapes and variegated elevations. A particular attention was given to the materials: I used recycled materials for the walls and the insulation, and as a rigid layer within the walls I put the pallet, well integrated in a platform frame structure. For saving money, young people can build their fiat by them-selves (self building construction): for this reason the details are simple and clear. All the project gave me the possibility to design surely thinking about the aesthetic aspects and the relationship between the parts, but at the same time knowing how the “building will be build” , its materials and technology and the construction process in general. The result is a sustainable A class building which is well included in its surroundings and respects the environment.

ASP_FINAL PROJECTThe Retail bank in the future: emerging business models and new customer relationship management strategies
The project consists in a multisciplinary approach to the problem the contemporary retail banks are facing: their role is changing, becoming closer to the customer. It is obviously necessary an approach which focuses on the customer re-lationship management strategy and consequently on the reorganization of the physical spaces inside the branch. If the new key word is “from tellers to sellers”, the interior space should be designed as a shop, having a particular attention to the materials (more naturals as possible), to the perception of the interior space, to the five senses, to the customers’ behaviours and to the necessities they have in. The result is a new kind of bank, with a real consent of an italian bank.
It is important to highlight the deep research made in order to understand the “bank world” and its changes, from the ar-chitectural, management and technology point of view.

Design the landscape: a multifunctional building (museum, li-brary, hotel) in Calusco d’Adda_Italy
The project consists in an eco-museum, a library and a small hotel in an area just in front of the river Adda. The idea was to design not just an isolated building, but a more complex system creating an internal square_courtyard, enhancing the sight of the landscape around: Alps on the North and river on the West. The museum and the library are in the same building; the in-terior space is divided into two main parts, connected by a staircase with views towards the surroundings. The hotel and laboratories are separated to the main build-ing: they form an independent compound, linked to the main building by the courtyard. A continuous roof_envelope, that follows the shape of the Alps behind, gives a visual continu-ity and a dynamism to the elevations; it is also important to direct people towards the museum and the library entrance. A particular attention is given to the surfaces treatments, to the use of solar passive systems, to the natural light in the internal spaces and to the natural ventilation.
A library-mediateque in Rome
A new library as a pole of attraction is located in Rome, just close to the MAXXI Museum designed by Zaha Hadid and the Renzo Piano’s Auditorium. Starting from the lines of the buildings surrounding, they are then deviated to create nar-row and large strips; the first one are passages, the others are gardens. The materials and their sensations are different, too. In the narrow stripes the naturalness, in the large stripes the lightness, in the walls the heavyness. The undulating roofs give movement to the elevations and to the sections and are essential for the natural light and ventilation, too.
Temporary installation in the Navigli area, Milan: Water space
The three temporary installations have the same common property: the water. The water is studied in its three states: aeriform, liquid and solid. Each installation represents one state, starting from the mist, going into the liquid water of the artificial channel, and ending with the ice and the snow.
The project starts with the creation of the event “TeCapìFest” in Milan, in collaboration with the Piccolo Teatro di Milano and with some inspiration from the movie “Amarcord” and “Rocco e i suoi fratelli”.
What is a line? It is a curve connecting all points having a specified common property.What is a “silk-line”? It is a curve formed by a series of lines, which connects some specific points having a precise common property: to be the points of passage of the ancient silk road.
As we considered, the passage of the silk road through the countries is not perceived by people; our aim is to recover it, by the use of a simple coloured “line” added to the existing paths, that connects the points (major cities, mountains, lakes, places, non-places) crossed in the past by the silk routes. The far West and East sides are part of the same project; it is something that gives a value and a recognition of the importance of the road the person is walking.The hands moulded the silk thread; the silk line concept is designed using the hands. From Venice, Italy (45°26’9.76”, 12°20’10.58”), to Xi’ an, China (+34° 16’ 21.14”, +108° 56’ 39.14”); from China to the Mediterranean sea.

A spindle of streets and routes traced in the centuries by merchants and travellers. Exploring rich areas and varied landscapes, finding out ruins of ancient cities and new ways of living. From the earth to the water, this unique yarn links the East to the West.
The green linear trail traces the past; it is a material indicator of a rediscovered route. It becomes a three-dimensional volume to offer a place to pause and freshen up or for a panoramic viewpoint, a bench to see the surroundings or an oasis for sensing the past. The line captures the metamorphosis of the contemporary city, as a kaleidoscope in which the line reforms itself; after it projects over the skyline or it is born again in the series of urban elements in the city. A vocal tutor, the Aspo bracelet, is designed to guide and to go with the traveller, picking up the wireless signal and giving information based on the exact geographical coordinates. Headphones are connected to lead the traveller in his new discovery.
