Staff are on Yard Duty from 8.45am until the first bell at 9.00am, this does not cover the Vermont Council Reserve or the Council Equipment Area. Once students have arrived at school, they must remain on school grounds. All teachers have talked with the students at school to make sure they understand why this is important, could you please reinforce this with your children at home. Please remember, children dropped at school before 8.30am in the morning will be placed in Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) with an invoice provided to each family. If you are running late to collect your child by 3.30pm, they are to wait outside the entrance to the North Building under the shelter where they will be supervised until 3.45pm by the Yard Duty Teacher. After 3.45pm they will be placed in OSHC and an invoice will be provided to each family. We currently have a few students who are still waiting to be collected, in the school grounds at 4pm, unsupervised. Please reinforce with your children that they are to wait outside the North Building where they can be appropriately supervised and not elsewhere in the school grounds. Student of the Month: November For the whole of Term 4 teachers are focusing on our Vermont Primary School value, “To Strive”. It has been wonderful to see so many students being recognised for striving to do their best. Congratulations to the following students on their award for November!

Introducing the VESPAs! This year we are introducing a new award called the VESPA (Vermont Excellence in Specialists Principal’s Award)! Our aim is to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in each specialist subject from F-5. The Year 6 student awards are presented at the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. One student from each Year Level, in Art, Digital Technologies, LOTE, Music, and PE will be selected to receive a VESPA.

The VESPA’s will be presented at the November 25th Assembly at the start of week 8.

The process for selecting the recipients and the selection criteria will be as follows:

1. Students will be nominated by the relevant specialists based on the following:

a. Demonstrating excellence in the subject area eg. Achieving above standard measured against the curriculum

or a specific skill area

b. Being a role model in their behaviour eg. Achieving outstanding for effort

c. Showing excellence in their overall approach to learning

2. Students are eligible to receive a Blues and a VESPA (getting a Blues Award, does not prevent a student from also

getting a VESPA and vice versa)

3. In week 6 of Term 4, Specialist staff will meet to discuss and finalise their nominations as a team. Students may

receive more than one VESPA if they are a stand out and no other student is equal in achievement, behaviour and

approach to learning. A list of recipients will go to the SIT/LIT team for final approval.

4. Parents will then be notified and invited to attend the November 25th Assembly

The Specialist Team are excited to be able to recognise the many talented students in our school and have begun the

challenging job of making their nominations!

Mindfulness in the Garden With the warmer weather approaching (hopefully not too far away now), the garden is the perfect place to unwind, defrost from the winter chill and practise mindfulness. According to Your Body Your Temple website, “Nature is a great place to practice mindfulness with kids… Nature provides a comforting space that invites children to be with their senses. It draws their attention to the here and now and helps to reduce stress and worry. In nature, children are encouraged to be in the moment and enjoy themselves while they learn about the natural world.” (https://www.yourbodythetemple.com/mindfulness-in-nature-with-kids/)

Recently, the Year 4 students had an opportunity to practise mindfulness in the school garden. They were required to choose one part of a plant to focus on and draw it as though they were looking at it through a magnifying glass. The need to focus on the features of the plant or flower brought a quietness and sense of calm to the activity. When reflecting on the activity later, most of the students, regardless of their drawing ability, commented how peaceful the activity made them feel. Many were also amazed at how intricate the flowers and plants actually were. So if you need a peaceful moment in the busyness of life, take a notepad, pencil and hat outside and enjoy the wonders of nature.

Vermont Primary School Curriculum Writing and Researching Living Things This term in Foundation, we are learning all about Living Things. We have been practicing using and reading non-fiction books and then using these books to research different animals. Next, we have used a special planner to write down the important information that we discover. Finally, we used our animal planners to write an information text about each animal. We have been having so much fun sharing our information reports in the classroom with our friends and learning about so many different animals.

Online Parent Surveys - The Resilience Project Evaluation Many parents have completed online surveys throughout the year as part of the Resilience Project Evaluation. The University of Melbourne have recently sent an email to those parents with the third and final survey. We encourage all of you who received the link to complete the survey, as it provides valuable information for this evaluation. Thanks

To finish the unit, they ate some of the food that

Hush and Grandma Poss ate. Here are some of their reactions: Lamingtons - “The coconut takes over every other flavor!” ANZAC biscuits - “They’re crunchy, really yummy!”

Minties - “I liked all the food except the Minties, they’re too minty!”

Year 5 Students are Complimentary Year 5 students have been talking about the importance of giving and receiving compliments. Did you know that for every one negative comment a person may receive, it takes seven positive ones to put the negative one aside? Did you know that starting the day on a negative remark from someone sets you up for a bad day? We wrote compliments to each other and found that sometimes giving compliments is actually not that easy. But we certainly enjoyed receiving them from our peers this week. The Year 5 students have got each other's backs and have been very supportive and we look forward to a positive Term 4. Basketball Victoria Hoop Time State Championships

Congratulations to our Basketball Boys team who have qualified for the Basketball Victoria Hoop Time State Championships on Tuesday 26th November. To qualify for this event the boys were successful in winning the recent Division and Region tournaments. Throughout the lead up games they have displayed outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship under the guidance of Mr. Foley and Mr. Straughan. The State Championships will be very competitive, with the top schools from across Victoria competing. We would like to thank the parents for supporting the students and assisting with transport on the day.
