● In Reading this week, we will begin a new unit on non-fiction text. We are learning how non fiction is organized. Be sure that your child is reading 20 minutes each night. You may want to encourage your child to read non-fiction since we’re starting a new unit on that genre! ● In Writing, we’ve completed our unit on Narrative Writing. Your child’s published narrative piece will be in Tuesday Folders this week! Next we will identify characteristics of Expository Writing (writing that explains a topic). We will examine strong examples of expository text and write introductions on our own expository pieces.

news ● Students just completed a unit on Maps. They learned about latitude and longitude and that every place in the world has a unique set of coordinates. ● Next, we begin a unit on Texas regions. After identifying the four regions of Texas, we will learn what cities, landmarks, and natural resources are in each region and create an overlay map with that information.
SOCIAL STUDIES

Preston will hold our Veterans Day celebration on
Friday, November 8. Students are encouraged to invite a
family member or friend that is a veteran. There will be
a light breakfast, choir performance, an introduction of
Veterans, and a parade around the school. Please
complete and return this form by October 31 if you plan to bring a veteran.
If your guest is unable to attend, and you’d like to
honor someone special, you may make a poster
with your Veteran’s information. Posters will be
displayed during the celebration. Contact Ms.
Rivers with questions. news
● In Math we are currently learning about division. We will be dividing up to a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number using the standard algo-rithm, place value blocks, and draw-ing pictures. We will also work on interpreting the remainder in prob-lem solving situations. ● In Science we are learning about force and motion. As a class we will complete a science experiment. We will determine a question relating to forces to test and observe how forces can affect objects.
