THE INSTITUTION
PSG College of Technology, started in the
year 1951, is an autonomous college for the past 33
years, offering 22 undergraduate programmes and
37 postgraduate programmes. It also offers
research programmes leading to MS/Ph.D. degrees
in all Departments. Currently more than 520
research scholars, both full-time and part-time, are
working for their Ph.D. degree. PSG College of
Technology, an AICTE approved institution, is
affiliated to Anna University and is ISO 9001
certified. The College has developed into a Centre
for Advanced Studies and Research in several areas
of Engineering and Technology. The Centres of
Excellence include CAD/CAM/CIM Centre, Virtual
Instrumentation Centre, VLSI Design Centre, TIFAC-
CORE Centre, DANFOSS, and Robotics Laboratory,
etc. The College has well-equipped laboratories for
all branches of engineering.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering has been playing a vital role in
producing scientists and technologists of highest
calibre ever since it was established in the year
1951. The Department offers UG (Regular and
Sandwich) programmes, PG programmes (Applied
Electronics, Power Electronics & Drives, and
Embedded & Real-Time Systems), and Ph.D.
programmes. The Department along with its highly
qualified faculty members started functioning right
from inception and engages actively in teaching and
research in all current areas of Electrical and
Electronics Engineering. State of the art
computational and experimental facilities enable
the Department to undertake basic and applied
research and provide support to R&D organizations.
The department has Centre of Excellence, namely,
PSG-LAPP Centres for Excellence in Cable
Technology, PSG-L&T Centre for Excellence in LV
Switchgear, Audio-Processing Centre, and Centre
for Renewable Energy.
About the Workshop
Virtual Instrumentation combines
mainstream commercial technologies with flexible
software and a wide variety of measurement and
control hardware. Engineers use Virtual
Instrumentation to bring the power of flexible
software to test, control and design applications to
make accurate measurements. Virtual
Instrumentation uses highly productive software,
modular I/O and commercial platforms. National
Instruments LabVIEW, a premier virtual
instrumentation graphical development
environment, uses symbolic or graphical
representations to speed up the development.
Agilent VEE Pro is a graphical dataflow
programming software development environment
from Agilent Technologies for automated test,
measurement, data analysis and reporting. It is
optimized in Instrument Control and Automation
with Test and Measurement Devices.
This hands-on workshop will give an
insight into the basic functionalities of LabVIEW and
VEE Pro. Also, it will help the participants to build
real-time projects exploiting the benefit of these
software tools.
