PARISH SOCIAL MINISTRY NEWS

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY

A re you prepared if you or a loved one dies? Church of the Incarnation’s Bereavement Team is here to help if the answer is “No!” The Bereavement Team can help in 2 ways: 1. We can help you to pre-plan your funeral to take that pressure off of your family; or 2. We can help you plan your loved one’s funeral once they have passed. When a loved one dies, we often do not know where to turn. Here at In-carnation, your 1st step is to contact the Social Minis-try Office at 853-8574 to inform us of the death, and we will walk with you through the rest of the prepara-tions. We will contact the priest of your choice, then help you to plan the mass with your personal choices.

The next issue is whether you are going to be buried or cremated. The Catholic Church does allow for cre-mations. If you choose cremation, you need to know that you DO NOT need to go through a funeral home! You can call a company called Smart Cremations and make all the arrangements with them. By doing this, you will save a tremendous amount of money. If you choose to be cremated through Smart Cremations, your cost, including a Columbarium spot here at In-carnation is approximately $3,000. If you have any other questions, or want to pre-plan a funeral, please call Social Ministry and our team will be happy to assist you. 901-853-8574.

Columbarium

If you would like more infor-mation, please contact Dani in the Church Office at 853-7468. Prices are per niche: $1,500 for single and $2,000 for double.

CAN CATHOLICS BE CREMATED? In 1963 the Vatican lifted the ban on cremation. It is now an acceptable practice for Catholics. In 1997, the Vatican ap-proved new liturgical norms allowing for the cremated re-mains to be present at a funeral Mass and the remains are to be treated with the same reverence as a whole body in a casket. Spreading the cremated ashes is still forbidden.

RESPECT LIFE ROSE

Since January 22, 1973, following the Roe vs Wade ruling the red rose has become the symbol of the pro-life movement. A red rose symbolizes the mourning that America experiences in the loss of 62 million + unborn lives since the legalization of abor-tion. At Incarnation each week, the Respect Life ministry places a red rose at Mary's statue in the church hon-oring those lives lost in abortion. If you would like to sponsor a rose for 1 week, please sign up at bit.ly/ICCRespectLife2021. Your donation can be made to Incarnation with a designation for Respect Life. Any questions, please contact Delana Lynch @ 901-861-6358 or Vicky Goodin @ 901-853-9107.
