Leaders will have a clear view of how self- evaluation drives improvement and the raising of standards across the EYFS and into school.Leads will have an agreed range of techniques which critically evaluate provision and the quality of teaching as well as appropriate success criteria which will relate to further progress in school.This will include the recognition that the whole school as well as the Early Years team need to have a shared understanding and consistent expectations of children`s desire to learn.Leads will have developed their own style of summarising a strategic evaluation of Early Years data and observational knowledge of provision as the starting point for planning continuity of learning and the raising of standards.

Leaders will have increased confidence in tracking progress by using a variety of ways to evaluate data on children`s outcomes as well as how it reflects the quality and effectiveness of provision.Techniques such as triangulation of appropriate evidence of deep level learning in the Early Years, mastery of their learning environment and sophisticated internal moderation strategies will be used to describe real progress.The forensic analysis of Early Years data will be tailor made to the particular trends and gaps of their school and barriers to learning and further progress are more easily identified.

On-going formative assessment is at the heart of effective early years practice. Practitioners observe children as they act and interact in their play, everyday activities and planned activities, they then decide what these observations tell them about children’s learning and progress (assessment) and use these assessments to plan next steps in learningParticipants on this course will have time to…• explore the nature and purposes of the EYFS
observation, assessment and planning cycle;
• think about possible approaches to long, medium and short term planning and planning in the moment;
• explore the role of responsible pedagogy in observation, assessment and planning and children's entitlements to a play based curriculum, indoor and outdoor etc.;
• think about effective ways of monitoring children’s progress and the role of formative and summative assessment;
• reflect on implications for practice and provision;
• plan next steps.
