Running, Walking, baseball, senior games, camping, fishing, gardening, visitors, vacations. And we havent even gotten to quilting. How about the Fair, small quilt auction, and Quilt Alaska. Members are bringing new things new things this coming fall. Carol McConahy is working on Sew Flurriesa fall retreat like Quilt Slushy. You have been asking for something in the fall. So please support her. Without your help the guild cant continue these sewing retreats. Thank you to Lona Boyarsky, she is our new membership chairman and to JoAnn Lynn, she is new publicity chairman. And I say, thank you to all for supporting your guild and helping to make this a successful summer. President’s Letter It is July already. The summer is flying by. There is so much to do under the midnight sun. NORTHERN COMFORT is published monthly on the CFQG Website. Members are notified by email of the web posting. Paper copies are available via first class mail for an annual fee of $25. Cabin Fever Quilter’s Guild June 19, 2018 Meeting Minutes

Meeting held at Faith Baptist Church. WELCOME/INTRODUCTIONS OF GUESTS AND NEW MEMBERS Vice President Kat Helmuth opened the meeting at 7:01pm. APPROVAL OF APRIL 2018 MEETING MINUTES Ellen Coughenour moved to accept the May minutes; Susan Culley seconded the motion. There was no discussion. The motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT The May ending balance is 15,889.24. The regular account has $14,951.07 after $980.67 in expenses and $42.50 in deposits. The raffle account has $2,434.08 after expenses of $540.61. The combined total is $17,385.15. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Membership: Lona Boyarsky will do membership for now.. Publicity: JoAnn Lynn has volunteered to be the chair. Tanana Valley State Fair: Kelly McDonald has signup pages for the fair. Penny Dean promoted the Quilted Wall Art Division. Small Quilt Auction: Donna Webber reminded everyone about the auction. Some forms are available on the table. Hospitality: Pat Fox thanked everyone who supplied goodies. The paper for next month was going around. Block of the Month: Elaine Thompson-McGee and Jan Cannon showed July’s block will be Railroad Crossing in red, white, and blue. Ellen Coughenour won the June blocks. Community Sewing: No community sewing this month. Elaine brought 3 quilts ready for quilting for people to quilt. Raffle Quilt 2018: $340 was ready to turn in. Morris Thompson Center is selling lots of tickets. Pick up your tickets from Margaret Widedman. Quilt Alaska: Kathy Richardson has 42 entries for the show. She gave the scheduling for entry, sequencing, First Fri-day (need lots of finger food-no chocolate or utensils). Newsletter: Some people had problems opening the attachment. It is on the website. Sunshine Sue: Donna reported it was quiet. OLD BUSINESS: NEW BUSINESS: Carol McConahy reported on a fall retreat similar to Quilt Slushy. It will be at Badger Hall at the Fairgrounds. The purpose of this retreat is to include the quilting community and others. Karen Jansen moved to hold the fall quilt retreat; Barbara Doogan seconded. Motion passed. Cabin Fever Quilter’s Guild June 9, 2018 Board Meeting Minutes

Meeting held at Noel Wien Library Meeting opened at 10:04 am. Present are: Nancy Junk, Kat Helmuth, Pat Fox, Susan Culley, Dorothy Stella, Kathy Richardson, and Colleen Pedretty. Discussions were charges and bills pertaining to Quilt Slushy and the need to establish guidelines for in-town retreats. Carol McConahy submitted a proposal for a fall Slushy and proposed locations. The board has some recommenda-tions that will be discussed. Susan Culley will meet with Jill Addington to garner what she does in preparation each year. Volunteers are needed for the Nominating Committee. President, Secretary, and one Director-at-Large positions are up for election. Kathy Richardson gave an update on Quilt Alaska with some questions that the gallery had. It was suggested that there be a quilting demo several times throughout the month to spark questions and interest in quilting. Meeting adjourned at 11:38 pm. Respectfully submitted, Colleen Pedretty

July Block of the Month Railroad Crossing

6.5 inches unfinished This block is made with red, white and blue fabric.

Make it scrappy or all the same fabrics, it’s your choice.

For one block: Cut: White fabric 1 4” square 1 2” x 8 1/4” strip Blue 1 4” square Red 1 2” x 8 1/4” strip With right sides together, sew red and white strips together. Press to the red and cut in 2” sections. Sew sections together to make four patches as shown in picture A. On back of the white square, draw a line from corner to corner. With right sides together, sew the white and blue squares together, with a scant 1/4” on either side of drawn line. Cut on the line and press to the blue, you will have two half square triangles as shown in B. Trim to 3 1/2”.

Following the layout in picture C and sew the block together. Trim block to 6 1/2”

Fall Sew Flurries

The date has been set to Septbmer 28, 29, & 30 in Badger Hall at the Fairgrounds. We have the building from 9AM to 9PM.

Anyone interested in teaching a class should contact Carol McConahy at 378-9572 or [email protected]

Daily price will be $9 per person. If you sign up for all 3 days, the price will be dis-counted to $25 instead of $27. Class prices will be $15 for whole day classes or $8

for half day classes.

Carol will need some helpers for set-up, clean-up, and food coordinator.

The August meeting has been

changed to August 28th!

Due to a schedule conflict with the Church for a State Primary Election.
