The title of his thesis is “Eco-biology and management of red pumpkin beetle (Aulacophora foveicollis Lucas) on Indian snap melon (Cucumis melo momordica Roxb)”.

2. Mr. Muhammad Aslam Farooqi, Regd. No. 2003-ag-1770, a PhD student of the Department of Entomology, has successfully defended his PhD thesis research in Video Conference Room of faculty of Agriculture on 20-06-2014. The title of his thesis is “Toxicity of different insecticides against Apis mellifera L. and Apis dorsata F. and determination of their residues in raw honey”.

3. Mr. Syed Mohsin Abbas, Regd. No. 2000-ag-1039 a PhD student, Department of Crop Physiology, has successfully defended his synopsis on 19-06-2014. The title of his synopsis is “Effect of Salicylic Acid on Bioproductivity and Drought Tolerance Potential of Marigold (Tagetes erecta)”.

4. Mr. Muhammad Omer Farooq, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1401, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Interrelationship between some morphological and physiological traits in wheat under water stress” in the Postgraduate Lab. on 21-06-2014. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of the synopsis a minor change has been made in the titled “Genetic studies of some yield related traits in wheat under water deficit conditions”.

No. 2007-ag-2456, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended his synopsis in a seminar at the University level on 20-05-2014. The title of his synopsis is “Use of biochar to decrease heavy metals uptake in vegetables, irrigated with wastewater”.

7. Mr. Rao Muhammad Ikram, Regd. No. 2003-ag-1928, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 24-06-2014. The title of his thesis is “Ecological aspects, interference and management of Euphorbia dracunculoides and Astragalus spp.”.

8. Miss Asima Batool, Regd. No. 20074-ag-263 PhD student Department of Botany, has successfully defended her PhD thesis on 26-06-2014. The title of her thesis was “Induction of Heat Tolerance in Maize (Zea mays) using Aqueous Extracts of Foliar Parts of Moringa (Moringa olefera)”. The members of the supervisory committee found her thesis defense satisfactory.

9. Miss Zara Jabeen, Regd. No. 2007-ag-886, PhD Biochemistry student of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has successfully defended her synopsis titled “In vitro Manipulation for Enhanced Production and Characterization of Hepatoprotecive Compound Silymarin from Silybum marianum” as required under the rules. on 27-06-2014. This topic has been modified with minor alterations in response to suggestions given during synopsis defense as “In vitro Manipulation for Enhanced Production and Characterization of Silymarin from silybum marianum”.

10. Miss Sana Ashraf, Regd. No. 2013-ag-624, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended her synopsis in a seminar at the university level on 11-06-2014. The title of her synopsis is “Impact of Co-digestion of Cow dung and Pulp Waste on Quantity and Quality of Biogas”. She has mistakenly written the date of synopsis defense 22-06-2014 instead of 11-06-2014. Kindly correct it for future correspondences.

16. Mr. Iqbal Javed, Regd. No. 2003-ag-1630, a PhD student of Agricultural Economics has successfully defended his thesis entitled “Agricultural Trade between Pakistan and United Arab Emirates: Performance, Competitiveness and Determinants” held on 28-06-2014 in the video conference room.

17. Mr. Azhar Mehmood, Regd. No. 2004-ag-1261, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 27-06-2014. The title of his thesis is “Alternanthera species interference and control studies in Oryza sativa L.”.

18. Ms. Shamaila Noureen, Regd. No. 2012-ag-632, PhD student of the Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences has successfully defended her synopsis in a seminar at the university level on 11-06-2014. The title of her synopsis is “Conversion of post biogas cow dung slurry into value added organic fertilizer for improving soil health and maize yield”.

The title of his synopsis was “Biochemical properties of entomopathogenic fungi and their combination with new chemistry insecticides against Asian palm weevil”.

20. Miss Qudsia Jaffar, Regd. No. 2009-ag-1186, PhD Biochemistry student of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has successfully defended her synopsis entitled “Isolation, Cloning and Expression of Anticancer Peptides from Some Medicinal Plants” as required under the rules on 27-06-2014.

After incorporations of the suggestions of participants and subsequent approval by the Supervisory Committee, the title of the research has been finalized as “Population abundance of fruit flies their economic indemnities and integration with eco-friendly management practices”.

23. Mr. Farooq Arshad, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1353, a PhD student of Department of Entomology has successfully defended the synopsis of PhD thesis research on 28-06-2014 as required under the rules. After incorporations of the suggestions of participants and subsequent approval by the Supervisory Committee, the title of the research has been finalized as “Quantitative analysis and integrated pest management (IPM) based mitigation of pesticide residues in cucurbitaceous vegetables of Punjab, Pakistan”.

24. Mr. Muhammad Azam Khan, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1390, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Breeding for ABA response in drought tolerance at pre and post anthesis stages in wheat” in the Postgraduate Lab. on 28-06-2014. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of the synopsis a minor change has been made in the title as “Gene mapping for reproductive stage drought tolerance in bread wheat in relation to ABA”.

25. Mr. Saif-ur-Rehman, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1906, a PhD student of Department of Entomology has successfully defended the synopsis of PhD thesis research on 27-06-2014 as required under the rules. 28. Mr. Maqbool Ahmad, Regd. No. 86-ag-1364, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 24-06-2014. The title of his PhD thesis is “Combining ability and gene action studies of maize (Zea mays L.) under water deficit conditions.

29. Hafiz Arslan Anwar Regd. No. 2005-ag-1757, a PhD student of the Department of Plant Pathology, has successfully defended his PhD synopsis at University level on 21-06-2014. The title of his synopsis was “Analysis of drought and rust diseases tolerance conferred by endophytes in wheat crop”.

30. Mr. Saif Ali, Regd. No. 2007-ag-1979, a PhD student, Department of Agronomy, has successfully defended his PhD synopsis on 07-06-2014. The title of his synopsis is “Growth and yield response of Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa wild) genotypes under various tillage practices, planting densities and sowing methods”.

31. Mr. Shahid Bashir Regd. No. 2004-ag-2084, a PhD student of National Institute of Food Science and Technology, UAF has successfully defended his PhD thesis on 25-06-2014. The title of his thesis was “Characterization and utilization of spirulina for food applications”.

32. Ms. Zaib-un-Nisa Regd. No. 2004-ag-1005 a PhD student of National Institute of Food Science & Technology, UAF has successfully defended her PhD thesis on 26-06-2014. The title of her thesis was “Optimization of quality attributes of multigrain sourdough bread using Response Surface Methodology”.

33. Miss, Umara Sahar Rana, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1392, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended her PhD synopsis titled “TILLING M2 and M3 population of cotton for drought and salinity tolerance” in the Postgraduate Lab. on 27-06-2014. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of synopsis a minor change has been made in the title “TILLING mutant population of cotton for drought and salinity tolerance genes”.

34. Mr. Muhammad Rizwan, Regd. No. 2005-ag-1751, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Estimation of combining ability for the development of local hybrids in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L” in the Postgraduate Lab. on 28-06-2014. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of the synopsis a minor change has been made in the titled “Phenotypic and molecular analyses of breeding material for developing hybrids in sunflower (Hellianthus annuus L.)”.

35. Mr. Kashif Rashid, Regd. No. 2006-ag-1367, PhD student of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics has successfully defended his PhD synopsis titled “Assessment of water deficit tolerance in wheat through physio-morphic indices” in the Postgraduate Lab. on 28-06-2014. As per suggestions given by the teachers/participants during presentation of the synopsis a minor change has been made in the title as “Genetics of water deficit tolerance in wheat”.

36. Mr. Shouket Zaman Khan, Regd. No. 2007-ag-2286, a PhD student of Department of Entomology has successfully defended the synopsis of PhD thesis research on 27-06-2014 as required under the rules.
