Dear Friends of SCR:
Please join us for a Senior Financial Workshop series that will
begin on Wednesday, June 7th @ 10AM here at SCR. The
workshops will continue every Wednesday @ 10 AM through
July 12th. The workshop is brought to us by Benjamin Rose
Institute, and will be led by ESOP, an experienced organization
in presenting financial information useful in our everyday lives.
The workshop is FREE and open to all, even if you do not
usually come into SCR. If you’d like to come to the workshop
and stay for lunch, please contact our front desk at 216-749-
5367. Best time to call is between 1-3PM.
Also, we will be featuring a nutrition series beginning July 21st.
It will also be FREE and we encourage all to attend. The
nutrition series will be on Fridays @ 10 AM. This series will
last 6 weeks and end in August. For both workshops, you are
welcome to attend the entire series. You can also come for just
one. The workshop will last approximately 1 hour.
We appreciate the support of all our volunteers and donors.
SCR continues to function because of all of you. If you haven’t
been in to see what’s going on lately, please join us!
All the best,
Liz

June Recipe: Stacked Summer Vegetable Salad
Attention:
Cookbooks are still for sale! Our
very own SCR seniors contributed their favorite
recipes...So why not give a few a try? Cookbooks also make great
gifts!
$7.00/cookbook or 3 for $20.00
Get some inspiring and tasty recipes today, just in time for
your summer parties!
Ingredients needed:
3 medium yellow or green zucchini
Kosher salt
4 medium carrots
1/2 small red onion
1-2 cups torn leaf lettuce
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup olive oil or canola oil
2 tablespoons snipped fresh dill
Freshly ground black pepper (optional)
Makes: 6 servings
Prep: 50 minutes
Chill: 1 hour to 12 hours
Directions:
1. With a vegetable peeler or mandolin, shave zucchini in thin
strips. Salt lightly, then transfer to colander to drain, about
15 minutes. Meanwhile, shave carrots in strips and thinly
slice onion
2. Rinse zucchini and drain in colander. To assemble salad, in a
2-quart square dish layer one-third each of zucchini, lettuce,
carrots, and onion. For dressing, in a glass measuring cup
whisk together lemon juice and oil. Drizzle some of the
dressing on layered vegetables. Repeat layering and dressing
twice. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour or up to 12 hours before
serving.
3. To serve, sprinkle salad with fresh dill and pepper. Cut salad
in rectangles with a sharp knife; lift out with a spatula.
Household Hints
If the knobs on your drawers or cabinets are coming
loose, remove them and coat the end of the screw with
a clear nail polish to fix the problem. Screw knob
back on before polish dries.
If you have difficulty planting a straight row in your
garden, run a garden hose in a straight line then plant
new seedlings along the hose.
To remove black scuff marks from vinyl floors, use a
pencil eraser.
For an inexpensive way of removing odors in the
refrigerator, repurpose used tea bags by placing them in
a bowl and place in the back of the refrigerator.
