On 24th of April, campus of Missionary Training Centre of FMPB in Jhansi, UP was in a festive look. Every face I encountered was

beamed with lovely smile. I am sure there would have been much joy in heaven. And the Lord of harvest would have rejoiced. The occasion was the graduation function of 79 Brothers and Sisters who had submitted their lives to the call of God to go to spread the gospel among the unreached people of our nation. These talented young people surrendered their everything in the altar of God a year before and had decided to obey God in every situation, joined FMPB as missionaries and have now completed their training. As the commissioning prayer was made for these people of God who are sold out for the gospel, I think two famous quotes:"God isn't looking for people of great faith, but for individuals ready to follow Him" - Hudson Taylor"If God calls you to be a missionary, don't stoop to be a king" - Jordan Grooms Having had no access to the Gospel, 66,000 people die each day in the world that is 2750 every hour, and it pains the heart of God. They die without knowing Christ because we fail in fulfilling the Great Commission of God mentioned in Matthew 28:18-20. Many of us are sympathizing about the people who have no access to gospel, but that is not sufficient. It is the famous missionary to Africa, Dr. David Livingston who said"Sympathy is no substitute for action." What is my action for the lost people?Eze 33:6,7 'But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand. So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore, you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. (NKJV)

Dearly Beloved in the LordGreetings to each of you in our Lord’s name!Doctors advise us against looking down too much. It puts a lot of strain on our spinal column causing problems relating to cervical spondylosis. We are designed by our creator to stand erect and to look up ahead.Similarly for spiritual well being we are exhorted to set our minds on things above and not on things below on the earth. (Colossians 3:2). Setting our minds on earthly things makes us susceptible to the sins of the world (Col. 3:5) and impulses and behaviour that destroy and break down relationships (Col. 3:8,9). On the other hand setting our minds on things above ‘where Christ is seated on the right hand of God fills us with holiness, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, a forgiving spirit and love which makes all these attitudes possible. (Col. 3:12-14)This will help us lead the kind of life that God desires besides preparing us to do great things for God. When the need out there is great and people are waiting to experience God’s healing

and blessings and when God is waiting to channelize his blessings through us we can no longer afford to look down, setting our minds on things below.Rampur Church dedicationOn the 24th of April Most Rev. P.Samantaroy, the moderator of the Church of North India dedicated the newly built multipurpose building housing the Church, Regional office and Leadership Training Institute at Rampur in Himachal Pradesh.

The Regional Leadership, the team of missionaries there and the donors whose commitment and hard work has made this possible deserve our appreciation. I am especially thankful to our moderator for having undertaken the arduous journey and spending his valuable time with us. I was privileged to be a part of this celebration.Communication DepartmentOur communications department has been working hard to bring out this

You can write to our head office in Ambattur, Chennai for more copies of these audio and video resources. For the first time a children’s DVD has been produced by our audio visual section. I thank all who toiled for this.Zonal Level Missionaries’ Family GatheringSummer holidays are when our missionaries’ Children get to spend a considerable length of time with their parents. It is also the time when zonal level family gatherings are planned in our mission stations as an opportunity for fellowship and spiritual rejuvenation for missionaries. Several such zonal gatherings were held in various states in the month of May.Church Leaders’ Conference in RanchiTo foster partnership with church leaders and mission agencies and for doing missions in concert, the second regional Church Leaders’ Conference was held from the 6th to the 8th of March in Ranchi. The Bishops of Patna, Cuttack, Durgapur and Ranchi Dioceses besides the Moderator

of the Church of North India and mission leaders from mission agencies participated. Dr. Sam Kamalesan was the main speaker in this conference. About 75 people from our mission fields in the geographical area covered by the dioceses participated.Giant Leap 2020To achieve our GL 2020 objectives, we need to further strengthen our fundamentals like teaching and training, focusing on outreach strategies, ministry to children, youth and women in mission fields. Do pray for these initiatives.Vacation Bible SchoolVacation Bible School programmes were conducted in various mission fields and many more are planned especially in mission fields in the North where schools close for summer in the later part of May and the whole of June. Pray that these might be effective in reaching out to children.I once again thank you all for your unflinching support through your prayers and generous giving.

Yours in the Lord

GROWING IN HOLINESS

(Varli Bible Translator)

Rev. Dr. G. Abraham

Growth is a continuum towards the perfection. Whoever keeps on getting

grow will become the experienced one. Such kinds of the experienced persons get precedence in the society. Whether it might be a College, School, Company or any other institutions they get the precedence. In our Christian life also the people who attain the growth in holiness get the likeness of God and acquire peace from this present world as well as the eternal life in the future world and get the opportunity to live with God. Our God is Holy (1 pet 1:5). He is majestic in holiness (Exo. 15:11). One can worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness (Psalm 29:2, 96:9).Holiness cannot be acquired by good deeds. One may have good deeds, richness, generosity, good education, good proficiency and well prestige in the society, but if he does not have holiness in his life it will make him fruitless. Sometimes good deeds direct a

person towards hypocrisy. Such kinds of works exist in the life of Pharisees and Sadducees. Ultimate end of the holiness will be producing fruit of Spirit in our life. Holiness is revealed by the fruit of the Spirit. Holiness is known when one obeys to the word of God, that is sown in the heart and will be able to save his soul (James 1:21).Holiness is thinking, loving, acting like Christ and hating the things which He hates. Holiness is striving to become like Christ. Holiness is being faithful in all our works. Holiness has neither limits nor ends. We need zeal to get abundant holiness. In Rev.22:11 it is written that let him who is holy continue to be holy. In our day today life, holiness happens continually. It continues like a chain and

ends in one’s last breath. Therefore St. Paul said about himself that he was the worst of sinners though he was a holy man (1 Timo. 1:16). When Isaiah had seen the glory of the Lord in God’s temple he cried that he was a man of unclean lips and he lived among a people of unclean lips. (Isaiah 6:5). In Hebrew 12:14 it is written that without holiness no one will see the Lord. In Matthew 3:8 it is said by our Lord Jesus Christ that blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.

HOW HOLINESS GROWS IN OUR LIFE?

1. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE GET AWAY FROM OUR SINS

In our day today life we have to pray to overcome the sins as David prayed. He prayed that keep your servant also from willful sins, may they not rule over me, forgive my hidden faults.(Psalm 19:12, 13) Breaking God’s commandments are known as sin, which makes cleavage in between God and man. Adam and Eve were unable to stand before God since they broke His commands, wherefore they hid in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3:8). Since the Israelites did sin they were defeated and ran away before their enemies in the battle, when they advanced against Ai. And they got victory before Ai when they confessed their sins and had union with God (Josh 8:21). To inherit the blessings and victories we have to grow in our holy life leaving all our sins.

2. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE KEEP THE FEAR OF GOD

In the contemporary world fear of God is lacking among the human beings, because of that very often we hear about murders, stealing, fighting, insolent acts, adultery, fornication and immoral acts. Joseph had the fear of God, because of that he ran away from the sin though he had the opportunity to do the sin. And he said that, how could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? (Gen 39:9). When we have the fear of God within us that God is looking us, then we will flee from the sin and grow in the holiness.

3. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE DO NOT LIVE ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN OF THE WORLD In Rom 12:2 Apostle Paul condemns the life which we live according to the pattern of the world. When we have the worldly love, then we have no Father’s love. If anyone loves the world, the love of Father is not in Him. (1 Jn 2:16-17). Satan used world as the tool against Jesus to fall in the temptation. He showed to Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor and said if you will bow down and worship me I will give to you (Mt 4:8-11). When we come across the temptation it is not considered as the sin. Christ had temptation by Satan, but he did not do sin. When we yield our life to sinful temptation then we do sin. But our Lord Jesus got victory over sin and the world. In this world everything is permissible for us, but not everything will be beneficial (1 Cor. 6:12).

Page 8: Volume 6 Issue 6 June 2016 - Friends Missionary …fmpb.co.in/Admin/magazine/14_FriendsFocusJune.pdfVolume 6 Issue 6 June 2016 Father, … I sent them into the world, just as you sent

Friends Focus June 20168

Divination, sorcery, witchcraft, gambling and all sorts of amusements, are not pleased by our Lord. Such kinds of acts are pleased by the worldly people. In psalm 101:3, David says that, I will set before my eyes no vile things. Evil thinking always defiles us (Mt 15:18-20). Television, Cinema and Serials will consume our times and those things defile us a lot. Nowadays home theatres are taking prominent role. Many Christian parents see the vile things by using abominate videos in their home, through that they themselves lead their children towards destruction. Judas who fell in the love of money, David who fell in love of woman, Ahab who had love of possession and Achan who had love of Gold fell from their spiritual life since they had worldly love. At last they all lost holiness and sought themselves great destruction.4. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE CRUCIFY OUR FLESH WITH ITS PASSIONS AND DESIRES

Those who do the acts of the sinful nature will not inherit the kingdom of God (Gala 5:19-21). Here flesh denotes body. There will be always warfare in between the Spirit and the flesh. In Roman 7:15-23 Paul says, for what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. Now if I do what I do not want to do it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. To overcome the flesh with its passions and desires daily we need Holy Spirit’s control. Old self likes the deeds of the flesh. We have to take off the old self with its practices and put on the new

self (Colo. 3:9, 10). Holiness is essential in the old self as well as in the new self. Inner holiness only produces the outer holiness. It is worthless when a person has the outer holiness without the inner holiness. To get the victory in between the battle of flesh and Spirit we have to surrender our sinful deeds to God and crucify all the sinful acts, so that we can grow in the holiness.5. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE OFFER OURSELVES TO GOD AND LIVE ACCORDING TO HIS WILLLiving a holy life by committing ourselves to God is befitable living sacrifice before God (Rom 12:1). Our body is God’s temple. God’s temple is sacred. God’s Spirit is living in us (1 Cor. 3:16-18). Members of the body belong to God. We have to offer it to God. Gluttons who eat too much are damaging their bodies. God is not pleased in it. (Num. 11:32-34, Pro 23:21, 25:16). Narcotics and intoxicative things affect the brain as well as body. God is not pleased in such things. According to Roman 6:13, 19 we should not offer the parts of our body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, rather offer the parts of our body to God as instruments of righteousness. God never accepts anything which we offer to God without holiness. God accepted Abel first and then he accepted his offerings (Gen 4:4). Macedonian believers before they offered the offerings they themselves offered their life to God in the form of holiness (1 Cor. 5:8). Henceforth God accepted their lives as well as their offerings as a living sacrifice.

6. HOLINESS GROWS BY THE ATTEMPT OF AN INDIVIDUAL AND BY HIS SELF-CONTROL

To grow in holiness, attempt of an individual and his self-discipline are very essential (1 Cor. 9:24-27). Many times we take decisions, but we are not able to fulfill them. In Daniel 1:8, Daniel resolved in his mind not to defile himself with the royal food and wine and according to his decision he accomplished it. Three times a day Daniel had the habit of prayer. When Government had ordered not to worship any god except the king, three times in a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. So Daniel prospered (Dan 6:28) and his life became an exemplary one, therefore king Darius declared that God of Daniel is the true God.

7. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE KEEP CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST

Moses had close relationship with the Lord because of that his face was radiant. All the Israelites saw when his face was radiant (Exo 34:30). If we have union with Christ, then radiance will reflect in us. By this other people will see Jesus in us. When we pray and read Bible daily we can keep close relationship with our Lord. Prayer is very essential to us to conquer sin and attain the holiness. Prayer keeps us in close relationship with God. If anyone does not obey God’s law after reading it, his prayers will be detestable by God (Pro

28:9).We have to read the Bible with all earnestness. We have to attempt ourselves to read the full Bible at least one time in a year. We have to attempt and allot many days to fast and pray for ourselves and for our country. Esther lived a holy life being very strong in prayer; it enabled the Jewish nation to get the protection from the destruction in a miraculous way, even though the command was issued by the king to destroy the Jews. Therefore, let us grow as a holy nation through prayer and Bible reading.God’s servants who had union with God had changed the entire society. In our organization Rev. Harris Hilton and his family did God’s ministry being the pioneer missionary at Periamalai in the year of 1967 among the Lingayats, Curumbas and Irulas who lived in the forest area where elephants reside. While they were doing God’s ministry, Raman who was a key person, tried to destroy Rev. Harris Hilton’s family and their ministry by burning his house. Our Lord who does miracles sent the rain and snuffed out the fire. By God’s intervention our missionary family was protected miraculously in such a difficult situation. By seeing God’s intervention Raman accepted Jesus as his God and he becomes their first convert. Through Raman many others accepted the Lord as their Savior in that area. As we celebrate Periamalai day in this month let us remember all the missionaries of our organization who labored among the different societies and made great impact

Page 10: Volume 6 Issue 6 June 2016 - Friends Missionary …fmpb.co.in/Admin/magazine/14_FriendsFocusJune.pdfVolume 6 Issue 6 June 2016 Father, … I sent them into the world, just as you sent

on people’s lives such as Varli, Kukna, Malto, Santhal and Vasava. How great are the achievements of William Carey and Zieganbalg who translated Bible in different languages and made great impact in the society by eradicating the social evils such as untouchability, sathi and child sacrifice. In all their lives they did tremendous work. To reach that, they had a strong foundation and divine relationship with Christ. That kind of the relationship is only feasible by their holy life alone.8. HOLINESS GROWS WHEN WE STAND FIRM IN THE SUFFERINGSWhen we face trials and sufferings we go far away from God. Sometimes we blame God as Job’s wife blamed God. (Job 2:9). Sometimes we murmur as the Israelites murmured. When we do this we lose the likeness of God. Job did not sin by charging God with wrong doing (Job 1:22, 2:10). Job preserved his holiness till the end of his life. When King David depicts about the sufferings he says that, before I was afflicted I went astray but now I obey your word, it was good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn your decrees. (Psa 119:67,71). Affliction made close intimation with God in David’s life. When we preserve our holiness in the midst of sufferings with all faithfulness, we will get the prosperity twice as such as we had before (Job 42:10).There was a mariner who had the habit of checking his ship before going out into the sea. One day when he examined his ship he found a tiny hole from where

water was dripping into the ship. He did not take it as serious and thought that this dripping would not affect his ship and the voyage began. When the ship moved into the sea waves of the sea behaved very roughly against the ship. Due to that the tiny hole became big in size and more water came into the ship. The passengers who traveled in the ship tried their level best to remove the water from the ship. And their effort became ineffective and almost every passenger, have drowned into the water. Thus one man’s ignorance and fault, ended with greatest destruction. In this manner in God’s sight, sin is not measured by its size. Whatever sin we do, it will destroy ourselves.

Ermine is an animal which has the tendency to live in the pit. It keeps itself always pure and hates dirt. The hunters used to close the entrance of its pit with the things which will make very bad smell and wait somewhere else to catch it. This animal which does not like the bad odour will come out from the pit, not considering the risk to its life. And it never lives with the dirt. Therefore, let us run towards the holiness leaving aside all the impurities and grow in holiness.

Friends Focus June 201612

Everyday spend time in prayer half an hour or one hour. Without prayer don’t get in to deed. The job of a missionary involves the power of the empowering of Holy Spirit in your life. That’s fundamental. Then after being empowered three things God says:1 Go and tell them peace be unto you and bless themWhen you go to the non Christian houses I want you to say, that, God’s blessing will be upon that house. You want to go and preach the Gospel, stand on the street and say many things but you don’t want to enter into the house of non Christian friends and say peace be unto you. When the gospel is preached in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, there is lot of opposition

because many times you do not go to bless the people. Go and pray for them, share the Gospel with them and become their friend. I think God is calling each one of

us to be a blessing to others. First job of the missionary apart

from the empowerment of the Holy Spirit through prayer is that you

will be a blessing to other, so pray and bless as many people. Have a list of people in your diary. If you are posted to Punjab or Gujarat, you say “Lord in this particular place I will pray for the following people, and will bless them”. Go to their houses and say I want to bless you, I want to pray for you. And If some of them reject you don’t worry about it. That is what God says if some of you are rejected, you don’t need to worry about it.

2 Heal themFMPB should relearn this particular thing. God has sent 79 missionaries now, to go and heal the people. There are people who require healing. There are plenty of people who have lot of suffering. You go and pray that they will be healed. Many people may challenge you regarding your going and

preaching. But if you are involved in the process of healing, people will say please come to my home. Christians have many advantages in many areas. The important two are:a) Most of them are well educated b) They can heal by the power of God.When you go, go with the power of healing, power of prayer, then many people will come to you. Pray that God will help you to have this power of healing and power to transform people. There you will be able to pray and bless the people because you have the great power of Jesus Christ with you.

3 PreachDon’t stop with healing. Don’t stop with blessing. Continue preaching. Preach that the Kingdom of God is near. Tell them that unless you repent, unless you accept Jesus Christ you have no hope. Kingdom of God is near you. Come, its free to you. Come and receive it. Three things God has asked you as a mission is that you will be involved in blessing others, will be involved in healing others, and will be involved in preaching to the people, so, that they will come to Jesus Christ with their lives being changed. Some of you go and probably call the villagers and say “let’s have a meeting today. I want to talk to you, I want to talk from the Bible that the kingdom of God is near. Come change and accept Jesus Christ”. The first thing I want to tell you today is about the mission of a

missionary. It’s a very challenging one. It may be a difficult one. You need to walk into villages. People won’t come to you. You need to go. That’s why the Bible says you are going to people house is a challenging one and at the same time very rewarding one. What is the reward or joy of a missionary? Luke 10:17 “and the 70 returned with joy saying Lord even the demons are subjected to your name”. Don’t come with a disappointed face, come with joy and say, yes, the Lord has done wonderful things. The reward for a missionary is always be us joyful. There will be joy in your face every time. Even amongst difficulties you will reflect God’s love, God’s holiness and God’s joy. My dear brother and sister when you go out, you will be challenged, persecuted, beaten and ill treated. But if you start crying and say oh! I am ill treated, I am mistreated the whole ministry is gone. The bible says the 70 came back with joy and said that even the demons obeyed them. What is the response of Jesus Christ to this particular thing? Do not rejoice in the fact that the spirits are subjected to you. Do not rejoice because there’s healing. Do not rejoice that many demons are going out as a result of your prayer. But He says rejoice because your names are written in heaven. What a great thing! The 79 people when you go there as missionaries you should say I go as a missionary today because my name is written in heaven.

The British East India Company Charter Act came for renewal before parliament. It was 20 years since the Parliament had locked the door of India to missionaries against the introduction of Christian and secular knowledge and handed the key to the Court of Directors of the East India Company. The Act was an extension and renewal of the earlier Acts of 1772, 1784, 1793, which previously gave the East India Company a monopoly in India regarding all matters. In 1813, the Charter granted to the East India Company in 1793 was about to expire, and the whole question of East India Company policy was to be brought before Parliament.William Carey and his colleagues pleaded with their friends in England not to allow this golden opportunity to pass without a vigourous fight to obtain legal permission for missionaries to proceed directly to India, and to reside, and to itinerate without interruption that India would be enlightened with the glory of the light of the gospel. The great bulk of Anglo-Indians, the majority of the Court of Directors of East India Company, the periodical press, and nine tenths of the members of the Parliament, were opposed to the introduction of the Gospel to India. The general mood in the public showed that there was not much support in the country for India missions. News was communicated to the missionary bodies, and it was prayerfully agreed to hold themselves ready to pour in petitions. The mighty William Wilberforce was the presence behind this movement. He threw his whole soul into it with as much ardour and animation as he had done with the question of the Slave trade. The golden opportunity at hand and the consequences which will follow if it is missed operated like an

electric shock through the country, and united all the friends of missions in a determination to petition the Parliament without delay.

The Baptist Missionary Society, the Church Missionary Society, the London Missionary Society, and the Methodist Missionary Society all brought their influence to bear and it almost seemed like the whole country came alive and pouring such a flood of petitions as was scarcely ever seen. For 8 weeks the table of the House of Commons was covered with petitions on the subject of Indian Missions. By the time the evidence was completed the voice of the country had become irresistible.

The debate on the great question was brought before the Committee of the House of Commons on 22nd June. William Wilberforce rose to the occasion and made that magnificent speech in support of the missionary cause.

The resolution for the admission of missionaries was adopted at 3 in the morning by a majority of 89 to 36 votes putting an end to the hostility of the Government of India to the cause of missions. His work thus resulted, education to be imparted to all Indians and missionary work to become an inevitable part of the renewed charter to assist the formation of moral and spiritual condition of India. The doors that opened wide on that glorious day remained firm for about 150 years. By the time they were finally closed Christianity spread all across the country and indigenous church became a force truly to be reckoned with so that when missionaries were stopped at last from without, missionaries rose like floods from within. To God be the glory!

Mrs. Jayarani SukinlalHow I was: I had an impression that the ministry in North India would be similar to that of Tamil Nadu. I didn’t know much about the unreached people groups in India though I had a vision to do ministry among the tribal people. I am not fluent in English or Hindi before. Now I am: I learned many things from Missionary Biographies for my future ministry. I came to know more about Cross Cultural Ministry and improved my English and Hindi here. I also came to know how to face the challenges & problems in the ministry. My vision for mission: God gave me burden to do Ministry among the Tribal people making them disciples and establish more congregations. I will try my level best to nurture them physically and spiritually, for their social upliftment making living witnesses from the tribals, who can stand firm in all circumstances and problems.

Mr. Sabir Kumar Singh How I was: Now I was working in a secular company. Used to spend more time with T.V, social media, leading a lazy and meaningless life. I was not aware of the importance of the mission I was lacking the discipline in my life and was not interested in Church activities. Now I am: God enabled me to improve my language skill. I start understanding other cultures. Learned to spend more time in meditation and prayer. God imparted zeal in my heart for the ministry and now I am growing in the Lord. I learned to be content in every moment of my life. My vision for mission: I have a passion to reach the unreached with the Gospel of Christ, planting as many indigenous churches as possible, as long as I live and also interested in the Bible Translation.

Miss. Melody DimsontingHow I was: I was working in a Hospital as a nurse in Delhi for 1 year. While I was working in Hospital, I heard about recruitment of nurses in Manipur, so in September 2013, I quit the job and came to Manipur. There I just stayed at my home and I went to a

primary school as a teaching staff substitute of my brother in my village Govt. school. I was a nominal Christian. Now I am: After the NIM training I could see a spiritual growth in my life. And also I learn to spend more time with my God and meditate the Bible every day. I learn many things from the Word of God. Thus, this training was very useful to me. My vision for mission: My Vision is to do God’s ministry faithfully. So I used to pray to God, when I stay in mission field or stay in Hostel to work after the children. I committed to fulfill the ministry given to me faithfully not only in the eyes of God but also before the eyes of all. God be my helper I will overcome all the problems and hurdles of the ministry. I surrender myself to God and to His will.

Miss. Deena Kumari BebartaHow I was: I do not know much about Bible and Jesus because I’m from a Roman Catholic family. Many times, I did not understand the Bible. I was unable to speak in Hindi & English before coming to NIM. Now I am: In the early days of NIM I struggled a lot to adjust here. After coming here I started to read Bible more and pray. I learnt many new things for my life through many subjects and learnt how to behave with others. Learnt the cultural adaption and improved Hindi & English languages. My vision for mission: Preaching the Gospel in the unreached places like slums, rural & rocky places, showing the light for the people still in darkness. Making big congregations in the mission field. - DEENA KUMARI BEBARTA

Mr. M. AyyanarHow I was: When I was in the 11th class that time I accepted Christ in my life as my Lord and Saviour. I have come from the traditional Hindu family so I do not have more knowledge about Christianity. Now I am: After this training I came to know about Indian Cultures. Before coming to NIM, I never spoke in English but now I am able to speak in English as well as in Hindi. All this will help me to lead the church in my mission field. NIM molded me spiritually & physically. My vision for mission: When I was studying in my college that time I got the call of God to serve Him, and God gave me a clear vision about youth. I want to bring our youth in to Christ and encourage them to become missionaries.
