The Friends of Wairoa School Inc AGM The AGM for The Friends of Wairoa Inc will be held on Wednesday 22 May at 1pm in the school hall. All parents and friends are warmly invited to join us at the AGM and the following meeting. Please support our school charity through your membership and attendance at the meetings. They play a vital role in promoting our school within the community and raising funds for the wonderful music program. Friends of Wairoa are currently raising funds to upgrade the Interactive Whiteboards in all classrooms. I urge you to support them directly and through the planned fundraising activities in 2019.

Opera Australia

By The Light of the Moon We were so fortunate to have Opera Australia perform the wonderful opera By the Light of the Moon. This opera was based on the poem – The Owl and the Pussy cat by Edward Lear. It is an enduring tale and a performance which enchanted our students with the music, costumes and props. We thank the performers and organisers for this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Wonderful photos are included in this newsletter. Kind regards Carmel Seeto Principal

What is The Big Vegie Crunch? Only around 5% of NSW children eat enough vegetables. To help our community do better, our school will be taking part in The Big Vegie Crunch 1st-5th April. Primary schools across NSW will be joining together to break the record for the most students crunching vegetables simultaneously. Last year 50,260 students crunched together. What can you do to help? • Pack some vegetables for your child to eat each day

at school 1-5 April • Keep serving up the vegetables at home and in your

children’s lunchboxes after the Big Vegie Crunch! Please support our recycling program

Student safety is a prime concern for the school. Parents are requested to assist by notifying the school directly if their child is absent and forward a written explanation to the teacher upon return to school – all absences must be explained. It is necessary for families to apply for extended leave if travelling during the school term. The school office staff will assist you with an Application for Extended Leave.

Plastic bags Please send in plastic bags, which we use daily across the school. Thank you for your support of this request.
