Qu: I want to paint my own nails for the big day but I can never paint them neatly. Do you have any tips?

In this issue our in house beauty therapistanswers your beauty dilemmas and questions.

Answer: If you take a cotton bud and dip it in Vaseline, then rub it all around yourcuticle area and down the sides of your nail. Then apply your base coat, vanish and

top coat, once dry you can take a dry cotton bud and just wipe down the sides of the nailsand around the cuticle and any vanish that has over spilt will just come away easily.

Qu: I am doing my own hair for the wedding and am just wondering whether I should wash my hair on the wedding morning?

Answer: I always recommend that you don’t wash your hair on the day you are wanting to style it as it is unmanageable. My advice would be wash your hair the day before, you will find you are able to style it a lot easier.

Qu: I have very oily skin and I am worried that no amount of face powder is going to cover it, what should I do?

Answer: I recommend that you get some blotting paper to keep with you on the day, then if you feel like your face is going slightly oily you can blot your skin and then apply a little bit of powder. I recommend MAC Blot Film.

Page 7: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

Qu: I have very dry skin on my face, to the point that it peels, what can I do to get it looking nice before my wedding which is 5 months away?

Answer: Firstly you must hydrate your body internally with lots of water. Take a good vitamin supplement and eat lots of foods which are high in vitamin E this will start working from the inside out. I then recommend a good facial exfoliator brush such as Champneys Facial Cleansing System alongside a good moisturiser which is suitable for dry skin. Such as Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser.

Qu; Whenever I wear eyeshadow I end up getting creases and it doesn’t last the night, what am I doing wrong?

Answer: You must wear a good primer before you put your eyeshadow on, this will stop creasing and your shadow will last a lot longer. You can also get make up setting sprays which will freeze your make up and should help it last the whole day/night.

Qu: What should I do if my nail vanish chips on the day?

Answer: Personally I don’t wear vanish anymore and stick to coloured gels, no chipping and no waiting around for it to dry, you don’t need to have extensions either as it can be applied directly to your natural nails like a vanish. However if you are opting for vanish and it does chip and you don’t have time to repaint them, just pop a bit of glitter vanish over the top, it will hide any small last minute chips.

We got engaged in 2012, we were on a mini trip around Europe with our friends Cathand Tom. One of our stops was Lake Garda and we took a trip into Verona as

Cath (!) really wanted to see Casa di Giulietta (Juliet’s House). Well once there, Iwent up to the balcony for a photo and Paul was standing in the courtyard on one

knee and he asked "Carly will you marry me?. Not expecting this at all, I said"Are you kidding?" and had to clarify with Cath that this serious. Of course I said

yes and went to find him to get my ring! Paul picked this by himself and did a good job,a slightly unusual shape which I love!

We then wrote on a padlock as tradition for lots of couples at Juliet's balcony.

Paul and I went to school together so knew each other then, butlove did not blossom there as he was an annoying teenager!

When I was studying at university in Brighton, we got in touchvia MySpace (old skool) and started dating!

That was 7 and a half years ago now..

Tell us about planning your wedding

After much deliberating we decided on September 2014 for our wedding. We looked at lots of venues online & we really wanted a blank canvas. We chose Chillam Village Hall. It was everything we wanted with norestrictions on our day.

We wanted a casual wedding and went for a BBQ and Paul’s brother who isa chef did the food for us. We booked a band called High Tide after seeingthem perform at our friends wedding. We also booked a coach for our guests.

We went for a Yellow & Blue colour scheme. I ended up buying my dressfrom The Wedding Dress Factory Outlet in Bromley which was a bargain. We had our invites made by Liz Moxam Graphic Design and camerecommended by a friend. We asked another friend who is an eventplanner if she could organise on the day and thankfully she was available.

My sister made our pom pom decorations, I made button bouquets for ourbridesmaids and confetti cones filled with Pot Pourri. My uncles made thecentrepieces and our friends offered to decorate the huge tree outside thevenue and they did an amazing job complete with swing!

We brought our wine in France and my bridesmaids dresses were fromEbay. The flowergirl dresses were made by Chloes Castle who I found onFacebook.

My mums friend offered to make our bouquets and my friend appliqued mywedding shoes as they were very plain . I chose not to have a veil but gotsomething for my hair on Etsy. Liz also made our table numbers and tableplan on a wooden pallet. We asked another friend if she could make us achalkboard with a plan of the day on. My brother in law made us some woodletters and I made our wedding cake. We also had a local business Poodle &PigPig make our crochet buttonholes.

Our rings were custom made The Jewellery Workshop & Itchy Fingers.

Page 14: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

I asked my sisters, Amy and Lucy and friend Lynsey to be our bridesmaids alongwith my niece Maisie and cousin's little girl, Violet to be our flower girls.

Paul decided to have a group of groomsmen (6) rather than 1 best manso they could share the jobs on the day,.

How many bridesmaids/pageboys?

I chose sunflowers to start & then work around this as a theme.I got myself set up on Pinterest and got lots of ideas. I like gardening and have an

allotment and it kind of developed from there into a rustic theme. Webooked our venue in 2012 and our photographer, Joanna Lane Photography

not long after. She is a very creative photographer and has takenpictures of us before so we were really pleased she could do the day.

Did you have a theme ?

Tell us about your wedding day

The day went really well and I was nice and calm, although I think the ChampagneHelped a bit with the nerves. My bridesmaids looked amazing and Paul’s groomsmanArrived with balloons and flowers from Paul, was determined not to cry though, I hadMy make up on!! I walked down the aisle to Real Love orginally by The Beatles. It

Was a non religious ceremony but we had singing including “I Get By With ALittle Help From My Friends” which was very apt for the day.

After the service we had gin cocktails in jam jars and nibbles. Our dog Bailey came forSome photos as well.

We then had our meal and an ice cream van for afters. We had the traditional speechesmy Dad thought of every embarrassing story about Paul (there are lots) one including

setting fire to my Mum's table cloth on Christmas day!! Our first dance was ‘Crash into meby Dave Matthews Band. A song we have loved from the start of our relationship.

The evening guests then arrived and the party started. Our friend Tom was the DJ in betweenthe Band playing and the dance floor was full all night!

We had chilli as our evening food which went down a treat.

Page 15: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

Are you having a honeymoon?

The next day we met with friends and family for a BBQ to extend thecelebrations and then jetted off to Hawaii the next day!

However, both very emotional at the airport when thinking about the wedding,Hawaii was amazing and we wouldn't have been able to do it without the

generosity of our friends and family.

It was worth the stress - I promise!

Page 16: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

How did you meet?

The proposal was done with a 20p toy ring at home to begin with as a bit of adrunken giggle then again in the centre of town. He got down on one knee witha gorgeous ring we had looked at the week before. We had only been togethera few months but we both knew it was what we wanted. He is perfect for me.He balances out the diva in me and keeps me grounded…..I make him smile.

Tell us about the proposal

We had been friends for a long time before we got together.

Page 17: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

What is your engagement ring like?

The ring is stunning, a white gold, princess cut diamond ring.

When did you get married?

What type of wedding was it?

We got married on 6th September 2014

We married on 6th September 2014 just before I qualified as a nurse. We did a lot of the planning last year as I am a student nurse,I wanted to

start my career with my married name so we decided to just go for it.Despite how busy we knew we would be.

We had a church wedding with the most amazing dress you have ever seenit is stunning. However on the hanger I did not like it and as my eldest daughterlikes to remind me..she chose my dress. It is not what I thought I would go for.

Tell us about planning your wedding

Page 18: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

Is there anything you would do differentlyor you would change if you could do it again?

Are you having a honeymoon?

I had two of my daughters as bridesmaids and the eldestgave me away. No pageboys, my partner’s son was an usher.

Neil arranged for me to have pictures taken on our wedding day with somelocal fireman. Our wedding day was perfect and I would not change a

single thing about it.

We had a honeymoon to Turkey just the two of us.

Did you have a theme and what colour scheme did you have?

We didn’t really have a theme for the wedding we just went with what makes us happy. We don't have family in the conventional sense so we tailored our wedding for us.We, well I, chose hot pink and orange for the colours and my amazing fiancé was

happy to go with that if it made me smile. We tried to keep some traditions but wehad an 'us' wedding. My husband had three best men and my daughter and step mum gave me away. I didn’t have any family at the ceremony other than those I have given

birth to but had very close friends that took on the role of family. We had the mostamazing photographer for the day, Verity Louise Photography. The evening room was done in hot pink

by a local business called Party Fix.

How many bridesmaids/pageboys?

Have an emergency Grooms Kit, which should includethings like buttons, important phone numbers, mints, clothes brush, paracetamol, anti diarrhoea medicationand needle and thread should you split your trouserslast minute, it has been known!!!

Don’t forget to send yourwife to be a bouquet offlowers, a card, some perfumeand/or some jewellery onthe morning of the wedding, let her know your thinkingabout her!!

Have a drink to steady your nervesbut stick to just the one, no onewants a drunken groom!!

Make sure you have your weddingspeech prepared, the last thing you wantto be doing is writing it on the morningof the wedding, or worst yet having nothingat all and going freestyle!!!!

Have a good breakfast,it will be a long day andthe chances are you won’tget the chance to eat untilyour wedding breakfastand then it will be hoursbefore you get the chanceto eat again, just avoidbaked beans!!

Page 37: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

You don’t want your audience falling asleep so keep your speech, sharp, to the point, witty and try to keep it to under 10 minutes, 7 minutes is the ideal length.

Avoid swearing and don’t write your speech on a long sheet of paper, this will showany shakes you might have due to nerves or otherwise. Instead put prompts down onpost cards, or have your speech written but on small pieces of card, that way you can

refer to it quickly and discreetly.

Make sure you thank the bridesmaids, pageboys etc and thank anyone who has helpedin anyway towards the big day and don’t forget to thank the parents, especially

the mothers on both sides.

Don’t whatever you do forget the bride, so many grooms do believe it or not!remember when making your speech you are also making it on behalf of your new wife.

Don’t forget to toast your bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents and bride.

Your speech should be structured the following way.

Thank your father in law for his speech and the brides family for welcoming you to their family. It’s worth throwing a quick joke in somewhere at the start of your speech to relax yourself.

Then do the thank you’s to the bridesmaids, mothers, etc.Tell your story about you and your bride.

Thank the Best Man, of course put some jokes in here

Your last words should be all about your wife, thanking her, how you feel, how she looksand what she means to you.

Q.

Reader replies….

Caroline says: Don’t care what anyone else thinks or says... this is your day chances are they'll love the way you look & love your dress. So just put yourself in your happy bubble and everything will be fine x

Lisa says: Have some spa treatments it does the trick for me x

I am worried about the wedding as I am extremely self conscious of how I look. There is only close family and friends attending theceremony but does anyone have any tips/advice on how to be a bitmore relaxed and confident on the day? Thanks x

Page 39: Wedding Find It Buy It Winter 2014

Laura says:

All brides are nervous and worry how they are going to look. You would be surprised to hear how many brides do notwant to be the centre of attention. Remember you haveyour fiancé there to support you. Also all the guests arepeople that you have invited because you want them toshare your special day. I always use Rescue Remedy whenI am nervous you can buy it from a supermarket or chemistin a drink form, sweets or spray. The spray is goodbecause you just spray it on you tongue and it calms your nerves, its herbal too. Good luck x

Business says:I'm a wedding photographer and brides often

have concerns like yours. The number one thing is to have a dressthat fits VERY well. Choose a dress that suits you, rather than

conforming to what you think you should wear. Next up is book agreat hair & makeup artist, they are worth every penny.

After that, it's down to your photographer.Book the best photographer you can afford and check their

portfolio carefully. You need to see photos of brides who are your shape & size - look to see if they have been

photographed in a flattering way

My whole wedding day I was petrified, once the ceremony is over you will relax more. Unfortunately you cannot stop the inevitable, biggest tip is........ ENJOY IT! It goes so quick and is over in a flash!

Dear Diar

So...a lot has happened since my last diary entry and to say I haveturned into one of those planning brides straight away would be an

understatement. I am Loving my wedding scrapbook,Pinterest pages and I have found a new love....teacups!

The last three months for me have been all about car boot sales, charity shops and Vintage markets. The trawl for teacups and Vintage

treasure has filled my days off and there is nothing better then being ableto add to my collection bit by bit. The idea of a Vintage tea party wedding

is now what I would love.

As you can imagine....The tea cups have taken up a bit of room in oursuper small lounge and Sam is literally being so careful to make sure he doesn't break or knock any. As we see friends they have started to ask

about the tea cups....'Oh those tea cups, they are everywhere!'is normally Sam’s reply.

It's become a bit of a joke but I really have found something I love, the more dainty and beautiful the better.

I came home from work one day to find a drum kit had appeared in ourlounge (our super small lounge don't forget) and am sure this is some

kind of own back for the tea cups taking over our home. However I do love him so if the teacups stay then so does the drum kit.

We finally have the deposit to book our venue this month and set the date....I shall tell you all about the beautiful setting and the special date

in my next diary entry.

Lots of love soon to be Mrs Jones xx
