Activate the primerbulb by pressing it and allowing it to return toits original form.

    CHOKE

The CHOKE helps to supply fuel to the engineto aid in cold starting. Activate the choke bymoving the choke lever to the FULL CHOKEposition. After theengine attemptsto start, movethe choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position.Once engine has started, move the choke leverto the RUN position.

WARNING: Be sure to read the fuelinformation in the safety rules before youbegin. If you do not understand the safetyrules, do not attempt to fuel your unit. Call

    1-800-554-6723.FUELING ENGINE

WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowlywhen refueling.

HELPFUL TIPTo obtain thecorrect oilmixratio, pour 3.2 ounces of2--cycle synthetic oil intoone gallon of fresh gas.

This engine is certified to operate on unleadedgasoline. Before operation, gasoline must bemixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycleair-cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at aratio of 40:1. Poulan/WEED EATER brandsynthetic oil is recommended. Mix gasoline and

oil at a ratio of 40:1. A 40:1 ratiois obtainedbymixing 3.2 fluid ounces (95 ml) of oil with 1gallon (4 liters) of unleaded gasoline. DO NOTUSE automotive oil or marine oil. These oils will

cause engine damage. When mixingfuel, followinstructions printed on container. Once oil isadded to gasoline, shakecontainer momentarilyto assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed.

Always read and follow the safety rules relatingto fuel before fueling your unit.

CAUTION: Never use straight gasoline inyour unit. This will cause permanent enginedamage and void the limited warranty.

FUEL REQUIREMENTSThis engine requires the use of minimum 87octane [R+M]/2 clean gasoline.

IMPORTANTUse of alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) cancause major en-gine performance and durability problems.

WARNING: Alternative fuels (not gas-oline) such as E--15 (15% alcohol), E--20 (20%alcohol), E--85 (85%alcohol) are NOT classifiedas gasoline and are NOT approved for use in2--stroke gasoline engines. Use of alternativefuels will cause problems such as: improper

clutch engagements, overheating, vapor lock, power loss, lubrication deficiency, deteriorationof fuel lines, gaskets and internal carburetorcomponents, etc. Alternative fuels cause high

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSIt is recommended that the engine not beoperated for longer than 1 minute at fullthrottle.OPERATING POSITION

Cut from your right to your left.

    ALWAYS WEAR: Eye protection

    Long pants

    Heavy shoes

WARNING: Alwayswear eye protec-tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.Rocks ordebris canricochet orbe thrownintoeyes and face and cause blindness or other

serious injury.Do not run the engine at a higher speed thannecessary. The cutting line will cut efficientlywhen the engine is run at less than full throttle.

At lower speeds, there is less engine noise andvibration. The cutting line will last longer andwillbe less likely to weld onto the spool.

Always release the throttle trigger and allow theengine to return to idle speed when not cutting.

To stop engine:S Release the throttle trigger.S Push and hold the STOP switch in the

STOP position until the engine stops.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCEThetrimmer line willadvanceapproximately 2

inches (5 cm) each time the bottom of thetrimmer head is tapped on theground with theengine running at full throttle. The most efficient line length is the maximumlength allowed by the line limiter.Always keepthe shield in place when the tool is being oper-ated.To advance line:S Operate the engine at full throttle.S Holdthe trimmer head parallel to andabove

the grassy area.S Tap the bottom of the trimmer head lightly

on the ground one time. Approximately 2inches (5 cm) of line will be advanced witheach tap.

Always tap the trimmer head on a grassyarea. Tapping on surfaces such as concreteor asphalt can cause excessive wear to the

trimmer head.If the line is worn down to 2 inches (5 cm) orless, more than one tapwill be required to ob-tain the most efficient line length.

WARNING: Use only 0.080(2 mm)diameter line. Other sizes of line will not ad-vanceproperly and will result in improper cut-tinghead functionor cancause serious injury.Do not use other materials such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break off duringcutting and become a dangerous missile thatcan cause serious injury.

    CUTTING METHODS

WARNING: Use minimum speedand do not crowdthe line when cutting around

hard objects (rock, gravel, fence posts, etc.),whichcan damage thetrimmer head, becomeentangled in the line, or be thrown causing aserious hazard.S The tip of the line does the cutting. You will

achieve the best performance and mini-mum line wear by not crowding the line intothe cutting area. The right and wrong waysare shown below.

Tip of the LineDoes The Cutting

    Right Wrong

    Line Crowded IntoWork Area

S The line will easily remove grass andweeds fromaround walls, fences, trees andflower beds, but it also can cut the tenderbark of trees or shrubs and scar fences. Tohelp avoid damage especially to delicatevegetation or trees with tender bark, shorten line to 4--5 inches (10--13 cm) anduse at less than full throttle.

S For trimming or scalping, use less than fullthrottle to increase line life and decreasehead wear, especially:S During light duty cutting.S Near objects around which the line can

wrap such as small posts, trees or fencewire.

S For mowing or sweeping, usefull throttlefora good clean job.

TRIMMING -- Hold the bottom of the trimmerhead about 3 inches (8 cm)above thegroundand atan angle.Allowonly the tip ofthe linetomake contact. Do not force trimmer line intowork area.

    Trimming

    3 inches (8 cm)above ground

SCALPING -- The scalping technique re-moves unwanted vegetationdown to theground. Hold the bottom of the trimmer head

about 3 inches (8 cm) above the ground andatan angle. Allowthe tip ofthe line to striketheground around trees, posts, monuments, etc. This technique increases line wear.
