Parashat Matot Maasei Through out the 40 years that Bnei Israel were in the desert they set up camp in many different places. Why does the Torah go out of its was to remind us of all the places that they camped at? This is a great lesson in the important deed of hospitality. The wilderness is a dangerous place, filled with snakes, wild animals and so many more scary things. There is no water and there are no road signs for direction, travellers only have the stars to guide them. That being said when Bnei Yisrael pitched their tents through out their journey in the wilderness, they had water and were protected from wild animals and danger. Because of the great service that the desert performed for Bnei Israel by protecting them through out their long long journey, the Rabbis tell us that the in the future there will be a day when the Midbar (desert) will be transformed into a territory filled with water and trees like it says in Yeshayahu “I will make a wilderness, a pool of water… I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree.” This teaches us a great lesson; if the desert, which had no understanding is going to be so greatly awarded by Hashem for protecting Bnei Israel, then one can be sure that a person who opens up their home to someone in need will get rewarded greatly from Hashem. It is such a great mitzvah to open our homes to those in need and to thank Hashem for all that we have and for the ability to share it with others. Colour War, Bowling, Tshirt Parties, Dance Off, Bean Hunt were just a few of the amazing programs we had at Camp Ilan this week. As it was the last week of the first session we made sure that we gave each and every camper the best week they have had yet. Colour War is always our camper's favourite part of the summer, and we are so happy they all did so well. This week at Camp Ilan our theme was Israel. We learned about many people who have worked hard and sacrificed so much for the land of Israel. We taught our campers songs about Israel and answered some really hard Israel trivia questions. We know that our campers at Camp Ilan support and love the land of Israel. Shabbat Shalom - Zack Isakow

  • Next up: aravot!

We started off the week with an amazing two days of colour war, Team Layla and Team Yom both presented dances, gorgeous art posters and creative songs. We played many sports, a game of Hungry

Hippos and an apache race which totally rocked. The blue team-Team Layla won by a fraction but we all proved to be the winners because we all had an amazing, fun time. Wednesday, we went bowling. With our funky, bowling shoes and many spares and strikes later, we must say that it was an awesome day. Thursday was our dance off. Bunk Aravot learned an adorable dance to What Time Is It? from High School Musical. They presented it with spunk, ruach and cool clothing to match. Friday we had a bean hunt and had to find the tiniest beans in an entire field. All in all, it was an amazing week and we cant

wait for the next one and more fun to come!!

Hi, My name is Alyssa Meyers and I am the new Camp Ilan assistant director.I have spent the last 3 weeks running the newest CIT program at Camp Ilan and learning from Yael Miller how to be the best assistant director possible. I am very sad to not have Yael Miller working at camp, however I am extremely excited to be taking her place. I am thrilled to be working with such an awesome team and such wonderful campers. I have worked for many years at different camps, from being a counsellor, lifeguard, head of sports and head counsellor. Camp has always been apart of my life. I cannot wait to share my love, support and ruach with the Camp Ilan families!!
