Your talent, enthusiasm and commitment to your play and music was exemplary. Those involved were: Lauren Kelly, Tegan Sheedy, Kathleen Gould, Joel Fuller, Kaitlyn Adair, Ariah Holmes, Kieran Betts-Smith, Rebecca Nicholson, Melissa Smith, Braden Lambert and Cassie Giles. On Friday the school hosted Mr. Colin Parker, The Riverina Regional Director of Education for a short visit. During his time at school we were able to showcase many of our successful students, who explained their success. These included: Bree Hummelesteed and Jade Wilson (Yr 10 Aspire Program), Bevan Collins and Brad Ingham (Brick and Block), Sam Lynch (Yr 12 Industrial Technology -Timber), Sarah Godman (Geography) and our school captains (Christa Chapman, Lauren Kelly, Ben Masters and Bobby Hughes). Mr Parker was also able to see the concert at the post office. He was extremely impressed with all that he saw and certainly wanted me to pass on his congratulations to everyone involved. Thank you for those who participated. On Friday a small team of Coota High Students travelled to Albury for the Regional Athletics Carnival and once again came away with some great success. Sarah Douglas of Year 11 won the Open Girls 100m (12.18 seconds) and the 200m (25.14 sec) a new race record on both event. The boys relay team of Ryan Miller, Dylan McDermott, Alex Jones and Jordan Ballard won their event also. All of these students will be off to Sydney in September for the Combined High Schools Athletics Carnival. We wish them well. On Friday 12th of August Coota High will be hosting a visit of the Melbourne Cup. With students from EA Southee and Elouera also attending. A very exciting presentation will be delivered by John Letts (a Melbourne Cup Wining Jockey) and Dr Newman (Racing Historian). I am certain that everyone will enjoy this presentation. Friday will also be the annual Jeans for Genes Day, raising much needed funds for research into childhood disease. I am certain that once again Coota High will really support this great cause. During the past two weeks lessons have been conducted to explicitly teach our Values (RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND EXCELLENCE) the involvement of the students and staff has been exceptional. Many, many students are really living these values in all school activities. Well done. Congratulations to Ricki-Lee Atkinson for her great posters throughout the school. The Big Ski Trip is on Monday August 22 and already there is a waiting list. Thanks to Mr Jacobs for organising this and everyone is certainly looking forward to the day. Hope the snow lasts!! Year meetings were recently held with students to discuss expectations and events targeted for each in-dividual year group. The ongoing implementation of our program “Positive Behaviour for Learning” was discussed and students were reminded of the rewards system that has been introduced when students ex-hibit positive behaviours. I was particularly pleased to have a number of students approach me with ideas on improving our school and welcome any further recommendations.

Our Ski trip will hit the slopes in a week’s time. Stu-dents have been eager to participate. Meetings have been held by coordinating teacher Mr Jacobs to in-form students about sun safety in the snow and all requirements for the day.

Students wore their jeans to support Jeans for Genes Day fundraising on Friday 12th. SRC students are busy planning the next School Social and events for the remainder of the year.

Bill Turner Trophy The junior girls soccer team were defeated by Marian College Griffith after a very hard fought match. Cootamundra were leading with five minutes to go when Marian College were awarded a controversial goal. The sides were still deadlocked after extra time and the game went to a penalty shoot out in which we were unsuccessful.

Throughout the competi-tion the team's conduct was exemplary.

It is indicative of the high regard in which Cootamundra is held that Mr Bill Turner, the founder of the competition telephoned the school the next day to say how sorry he was that Cootamundra had lost and to reminisce about his fond memories of Cootamundra players from several years ago when he had the pleasure of meeting Cootamundra players at the finals of the competition.

Canberra Visit - University Experience

On Tuesday 26th July a group of ten Yr 10 stu-dents accompanied by Mrs Green travelled to Canberra for 3 days of fun, laughter and learning. We were joined by 32 other students from Coleambally High, Cowra High, Deniliquin High and Lockhart Central. The visit was organised by Mrs. Alderman and fully funded by the Country Education Founda-tion of Australia (CEFA). The CEFA University Experience program aims to provide country stu-dents with the opportunity to visit a university and experience life on campus. We visited ANU (Australian National Univer-sity), the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) and CU (Canberra University). Our tour guide and CEFA organiser was Annabel Gay who did a marvellous job of making us all feel very wel-come and sharing in all the activities. The students participating in the excursion were Jade Wilson, Tara Kelly, Samantha Lambing, Joel Brown, Sarah Walsh, Aaron Hines, Bree Hummelstad, Amy Bell, Grace Thompson and Ailish Ballard. “I really enjoyed the drama skit on our last night. I thought it was so much fun and great for laughs. The whole experience was really great and I did-n’t want to leave all the new friends I made. I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone chosen”. Grace Thompson “I greatly enjoyed the Mock trial and the interac-tive section of the AIS. I think this excursion was very good and I would recommend every other student to take part if given a chance. I thank all the lecturers, teachers, ambassadors and espe-cially Annabel for making it all possible”. Joel Brown “I really enjoyed Canberra, but going to the AIS was the most exciting. We got to have a look around and met some athletes from different sports. Canberra was an amazing experience and shouldn’t be missed”. Tara Kelly

Canberra University Experience Visit

Continued ........ Continued .... “I really enjoyed the Canberra University Experi-ence program and I learnt a lot about Uni life. I had lots of fun at ice skating on the first night and meeting new people. I found the drug testing really interesting and so was the Mock Trial. I liked learning how a real court case would work. My highlight of the trip would be the drama ac-tivities on the last night as it was fun to see what everyone else did. The trip was an amazing ex-perience that I will never forget”. Samantha Lambing “I really enjoyed the drama skit we did on our final night there, and making new friends. Seeing what the Uni’s were like and what they have to offer was really good too. I had a heap of fun and didn’t want to leave”. Ailish Ballard. “I really enjoyed the Canberra University Experi-ence program run by the Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEFA) because it showed us what Uni life can be like even if you come from the country. It was also good to meet other people from country towns. The part I liked most was the visit to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport). This was because we had time to play games amongst our-selves as well as a training activity run by four young fe-male basketball players. We also had a tour around the AIS and spent some time in the interactive learning centre which was full of games”. Bree Hummelstad Continued...

Continued.... “The whole thing really was spectacular. Annabel did an amazing job organising the trip. I think the best part was meeting new people for the most part. I wanted to stay just to keep hanging out with them. The ice skating was also quite fun and enjoyable. Our own Grace showing us all up by texting and skating at the same time! The AIS arena activities were very good and satisfying to me. Touring the place was quite informative and I found out some interesting facts and informa-tion about the training of the athletes. The ANU tour was in my opinion better than the CU one. The tour of Bruce Hall and seeing one of the dorms made me seriously consider on-campus accommodation. To say the least, the trip was amazing - very informative and a truck load of fun”. Aaron Hines I would like to congratulate our students for their wonderful participation in this event. They were great representatives of Cootamundra High. Many thanks to Mrs. Alderman, Annabel and the many staff and students at ANU, CU and AIS who gave of their time and information.
