It’s also a good time to remind the whole family about the potential dangers of talking, texting or listening to music when you’re out and about, especially when crossing the road.
As pedestrians, we become more vulnerable when stepping out from the kerb if our headspace is occupied with music, texting or talking. Our mobile devices limit hearing and reduce concentration and reaction times.
It’s well to remember that pedestrians will always come off second best when they are involved in a collision with a motor vehicle.
The number one safety rule is Head Up. Phone Down.
Ryde Youth TheatreCould Ryde Youth Theatre’s newest production hold the answer to one of ancient Egypt’s greatest mysteries? All will be revealed when the Ryde Youth Theatre presents THE TOMB, in two special performances this week.
This talented group of local thespians are known for their spirited performances and youthful energy, and seating is limited for this not to be missed event.

Sports Grants Deadline ExtendedOne-off grants are one of the ways Council supports our community to grow, prosper and carry out special project that contribute to all round well-being and a vibrant community culture.
In news just to hand, the deadline for Sports and Recreation Grants has been extended until Monday 4 April.
These Grants of up to $3,500 are available for local groups and clubs looking to develop programs that encourage community participation in sport, recreation and physical activity.
Also, applications for Small Grants up to $1,000, which are available year round, next round closes on 13 May.

The above applications are not ‘designated development’ under the terms of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and the City of Ryde is the authority responsible for the determination of the applications. Anyone may make submissions concerning these applications. Submissions are required to be in writing. They should be addressed to the General Manager and sent by post, email or fax or delivered in person to the Civic Centre or the Ryde Planning and Business Centre. Should the submission be by way of objection to the proposal, the submission should specify the grounds of objection. The City of Ryde has resolved that all submissions received in relation to rezoning and development applications will be publicly accessible on request. The supply of personal information is voluntary. However if you choose to make an anonymous submission it may be given less weight (or no weight) in the overall consideration of the application. All of the above applications and accompanying information may be inspected electronically at the Ryde Planning and Business Centre, 1 Pope Street, Ryde (within Top Ryde City shopping centre) between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday during the period in which submissions may be made.
