What is a SET Plan?
• The Senior Education Training Plan is document used to support students in planning for their academic pathways at PBC
• Next Tuesday & Wednesday – SET Plan interview with key members of staff to choose academic pathway
• Before choosing subjects students must carefully consider the requirements, pre-requisites of each subject and what will best suit them
• All PBC students are required to take English, Maths and four elective subjects for the duration of their schooling
QCE
Queensland Certificate of Education
• QLDs Senior School Qualification
• Maintain 3 subjects the whole time
• Must pass an English and Maths course
• Need 20 Credits over four semesters
QCE QTAC- ATAR
• Students have 9 years to gain
minimum of 20 points
• 12 points must come from core
studies, with a maximum of points
from preparatory courses and
maximum of 8 points from
enrichment courses
• Unit 1 & 2 accumulate one
separate point
• Unit 3 & 4 come as a pair of points
• Students must study at least 3 sets
of Unit 1-4 studies
• Students must pass literacy and
numeracy
• Only the highest level certificate
in a pair will be recognised (eg.
Cert II/III Hospitality)
• ATAR’s will be calculated on the
best 5 subjects
• English Compulsory
• Maximum of two languages can
be counted
• Can be counted based on results
from five consecutive years
External Rules
QCE points
• The Unit based nature of points accumulation makes a QCE more difficult to achieve.
• This means students must enter the right subjects from the beginning of Year 11, there is no margin for error.
• Because of the way points are accumulated students will have limited opportunity for subject changes. Voluntary changes will occur only 2 times in SS.
• All students should aim to “bank” extra QCE points via VET courses, traineeships and recognised studies.
QCE points/ATAR
• Unit 1 and 2 satisfactory upload
• Unit 3 and 4 – combined pair and these results are used for ATAR purposes

Important Timings
• In common terms students will start Year 12 content in Term 4 Year 11.
• Attendance is key- All students must maintain 90% attendance.
• Avoid holidays during term. Assessment is in 7 weeks cycles in Year 11 and 10 week cycles in Year 12. Students cannot afford to miss content.
Unit 1 & 2 = Terms 1- 3, 2021
Unit 3 &4 = Term 4, 2021 – Term 3, 2022
Exams = Term 4 2022
Senior Assessment
• Combine school-based and external
assessment to derive final subject results.
• 4 assessments (3 school-based + 1 external)
per subject.
• School-based assessment will generally
contribute 75% to a student’s final subject
result: 50% in Maths and Science
• Students will receive a numerical and A to
E final subject result ( A to E only for applied
subjects)
VET - Vocational Education and Training• Certificate courses that are provided by the
school or a external provider through VETisfunding. Students can only do 1 of these VETiscourses whilst at school.

• Fee for Service or User pay courses e.g. Diploma
• Contribute to QCE – only highest in training package though
• All non-ATAR students should aim to complete a Cert III or Traineeship
• Students can do a SAT, a VETis course and a Fee for Service course
C3 or higher courses / Tertiary options
• School based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs)
• Fitness – VETis ( possibility of C4 all for $75)
• Health Services - VETis

on-pathways/vet-pathways-to-griffith
• VET subjects do have homework
• All students should consider a C3 or
higher subject including a SAT.

PBC Pathways
Students can pursue 2 main pathways into Year 11/12 at PBC:
ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank)
• a combined score of results from rigorous, academic subjects (General Subjects). Universities recognise an ATAR as an entry score.
Personalised
• a combination of General, Applied and VET (Vocational Education) subjects. These generate qualifications of various weightings (Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma) – universities recognise these also
Pathway Placements
• Students have received individualised SET Plans based on their performance in Year 10 subjects
• Students need to select subjects within the pathway parameters they have been given
• Note QCE implications
ATAR Pathway
• A number up to 99.95 that is recognised as an entry-level qualification by universities
• Students must select 4 to 6 General subjects
• Students must be achieving majority A’s, some B’s in Year 10 to be eligible for 6 General subjects
• Students must study and pass General English (and/or Literature if eligible)
• Students can select 6 General subjects or 5 General subjects plus an Applied or VET subject
ATAR Pathway
• All units count for the QCE
• Units 3 and 4 (Year 12) used for ATAR calculations and Tertiary pre-requisites
• Best 5 subjects count for ATAR- scaling (unknown- STEM subjects most likely better)
Personalised Pathway
• Students must complete 6 subjects
• Students must select an English and a Maths
course at the recommended level or below
• Students must select no more than 3 ATAR
subjects
• General subjects are strongly discouraged if a
student has been placed in Essential English.
The literacy requirements of these subjects
have substantial academic rigour.
Personalised Pathway
• Students should select at least 1 Cert 3 course (or
higher) course via a VET subject or school-based
traineeship – this is a certified pathway to
workforce and tertiary study
• Students studying a Cert IV or Diploma need to be
attaining strong Year 10 English results
• Students can only complete one VETis funded
course (not including a school based traineeship)
and may complete an additional fee for service
course (FFS).

pathways-to-griffith
Important Messages
• Very limited subject changes; End of Unit 1 and end of Unit 2 only.
• Pay attention to subject information assessment modes. Eg. Speech’s in subjects.
• Students should be doing subjects that meet their university prerequisites and their interests (Year 10 QTAC pre-requisites).
• Use tonight to talk to subject experts in U/V block, where every Faculty has set up displays and can help answer your questions.
