W elcome to our winter 2018 edition of your newsletter. Sadly it befalls me yet again to inform
you of the passing of two of our much respected members, Beryl and John, more details on page 3.
Well, during 2017 we managed several trips and our usual functions with a bit of fund raising
thrown in. Also, we had a table for Parkinson’s awareness week in it’s bi-centenary year since dis-
covery. Bowls and lunch club continued apace with good support from group members and friends.
So thanks go to all who supported our functions and fundraising and also to the committee for their
efforts in making it al happen. We hope you will carry on and support us whenever possible in the
coming year. Please feel free to make any suggestions for trips or functions that you may like to
attend in the new year and pass them to Pam. We will endeavour to accommodate your wishes
where possible and continue providing you plenty to do during the New Year and hope you all en-
joy whatever comes along. I would also like to thank all those that supported our local giving cam-
paign during 2017 and into 2018. Well that’s me done for this year, I hope you’ve enjoyed the
newsletters and continue to do so.
Which leaves me only to say have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.
Thank you Vince.

Techno Tip How often should my antivirus
software update and scan?
It’s vital to keep your comput-
er’s protection up to date, other-
wise newer threats may be able
to slip past your defences. Most
security software automatically
checks for updates at least
once a day, although it’s worth
investigating your program’s
settings to make sure this is the
case.
Your security software gives
real-time protection against
threats as they emerge, but regu-
lar system scans are important,
too. Most security suites are
configured to perform an auto-
matic scan once a week,
often offering the choice of a
‘quick’, ‘deep’ or ‘full’ scan.
It’s recommend that you carry
out a full scan once a week. You
can do a manual quick scan any
time you choose if your
computer is exhibiting suspi-
cious behaviour.

New Year New Year comes but once a year
Hopefully bringing you good cheer,
New things to do and places to go
Or just sitting, by the fires glow.
Waiting for the seasons to change
Nights get lighter and brighter again
Check off that list of promises made
And see for yourself if you obeyed.
Think of holidays, days in the sun
Plan ahead, make sure you have fun
Or go for a ramble if that’s for you
Take it all in your stride excuse the
pun!
Have a party or two while you can
Showing off your even sun tan
Because soon it’ll be back indoors
once again
Keeping dry from that pesky rain.
I hope the New Year brings to you
All the things that you wished for
and hoped you could do.
Good tidings to all and a
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Vince

I t is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we have to announce that Mr John Branagan passed away on Sunday 15th October

He will be sorely missed by Pat, and their friends and family alike.
We send our sincerest condolences to them all and offer any support
we can give. We also wish them all the very best for the future.
