AA Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (this applies if you suffer a work-related injury or illness).

FIREIf you hear the fire alarm, it is essential that you drop what you are doing and head towards the assembly point, which is the red pole in the rear car park. This alarm automatically calls a fire engine, so follow the instructions of the fire warden and stay calm.

Regular fire drills will ensure that everything will run smoothly in the event of a real fire. Please take these seriously and follow the instructions properly.

FIRST AID KITSFirst aid kits are located in each room and it is the responsibility of the safety officer to keep these maintained. Classic Design

INCIDENT REPORTSIf you are physically injured in any way or are at the receiving end of any form of bullying or harassment, it is essential that you fill out and lodge and incident form as soon as possible after the event. These forms can be downloaded from the website under the staff health and safety tab and then emailed to Jeff Martin.

Completion of this documentation will assist any compensation claims that you may need to lodge

Signs to indicate the location of fire extinguishers are in each room. Please be familiar with their location in case of emergency.

Please also be aware of the different types of fire extinguishers, as shown on the chart below.

Boxes with this sign are also placed in each room as they contain a first aid kit.

Please only use these to treat minor injuries, making sure to always seek professional medical care. The safety officer will direct you as to the best course of action if you are in doubt.

Remember to file an incident report for all injuries.

Exit signs are placed above the approved exit points, please be aware of where these are located in case of emergency.

Every 12 months all of the equipment in the office is checked to ensure it measures up to our high standards.

Fire extinguishers are serviced annually to ensure they are in working order. Staff are reminded about how to use them every six months as we feel once a year would exclude new team members.

Office furniture is checked by the safety officer every year and replaced if it is no longer considered ergonomic. If you come across any damaged furniture, please report it right away.

All electrical items are tested yearly by an electrical technician. If approved, a sticker is then placed on the appliance to show the date it was last tested.

Please:

Keep walkways clear

Take care when in contact with hot beverages

Walk in the office, rather than run

Use a ladder to reach items rather than climb on other objects

Use the correct lifting procedures outlined in your induction pack

Close cupboard doors and desk drawers to avoid injury

Report any potential hazards to the safety officer.

Take regular breaks to stand up and stretch. Exercises that can be done in the office will be detailed in your induction package. We have a lovely garden for staff to enjoy during regular paid breaks, sounds like a good deal!

Every month, we all get together for a meeting to discuss how best to maintain our high level of health and safety in the office.

In the mean time, please place any suggestions you might have about how our workplace could be improved in the suggestion box in the administration office.

Every Wednesday morning at 10.30 we all get together for morning tea to catch up and have a laugh. We have a cake roster, so now you know why we asked you about your baking skills in the interview!

On Friday evenings at 5pm we have work drinks here at the office, and once a month at a local pub. It’s a great way to celebrate the amazing things we have all achieved throughout the week!
