PARISH INFORMATION First Sunday of Advent BE PREPARED Be prepared. It’s that simple. As this Advent season opens before us, the Lord Jesus summons us to stand ready for his coming. At this time of year much of our attention is focused on being prepared for the details that accompany the holiday season. We purchase gifts; we decorate our homes, inside and out; we prepare foods that we eat only during the holidays; we write and send Christmas cards; we attend holiday concerts; we prepare either to welcome family and friends into our homes or arrange for visits to their homes. We really can’t escape the details that make up the season. Perhaps this Advent is a time to attend to all those details with a different spin. As we prepare to celebrate the feast of Christmas, why not be deliberate about acknowledging the presence of the Lord as we go about these tasks? The Lord often comes to us in wonderfully surprising ways. Let us be prepared. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading - All the peoples shall stream toward

the Lord’s house (Isaiah 2:1-5). Psalm — Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord

(Psalm 122). Second Reading - It is the hour to cast off the dark

and clothe ourselves in the light (Romans 13:11-14).

Gospel - Stay awake! Be prepared! The Son of Man will come when you least expect (Matthew 24:37-44 ).

St. Dominic Savio He is the patron saint of our Parish. He is a saint at nearly fifteen years of age. He was educated by Don Bosco at the Oratory of St. Francis de Sales.

For St. Dominic Savio, holiness consists of always being cheerful and of doing one’s ordinary duties, extraordinarily well. His Feast Day is on May 6.

ADVENT PENITENTIAL RITE SERVICE As we start a new Liturgical Year with the onset of the Advent Season, let us start the year right by reconciling with God. Our Advent Peniten al Rite Service will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. The Sacrament of Reconcilia on (or Confession) is an important Sacrament to St. Dominic Savio. One of his promises before he received his First Holy Communion was, “I will go to Confession and Communion as o en as my confessor will allow.” “Praise the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endures forever.” (Psalms 136:1 NABRE)

Show us Lord your love; and grant us your salvation.

(cf. Psalm 85:8 )

(Salmo 84, 8)

A NOTE FROM FR. CHINH NGUYEN Hello everyone in the Lord! My message this me has two purposes: I hope this message finds you all in good spirits as we enter a new year as a Church! Yes, that is the me and season known in the Church as Advent! The vestments change, the Gospel changes as the Church moves into a new cycle recalling and celebra ng God's coming to our world in Jesus: God's redemp ve work in our journey of life and faith. God's reign is coming. Prepare for it by seeking forgiveness (Advent Peniten al Rite Service on December 6 at 7 p.m.): repent and believe! As carols ring out around shopping centers / malls. WATCH OUT and BE ALERT so you can recognize the moment when God is coming to you. Peace be with you and yours!

Did You Know? Bullying preven on starts at home From cyberbullying to name-calling and exclusion, bullying can affect people of every age, especially kids and teens in school. Their peers can be cruel, so it’s important to talk about how to handle bullies, especially before a situa on escalates. One way to stop the cycle of bullying in its tracks, is to teach kids to speak kindly to others and to treat everyone around them with respect.
