“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go” Dr Seuss

Dear Families,

The end of Term 1 is finally here and what a busy week it’s been celebrating and recognising regular attendance to school and success in learning.

This week we acknowledged the 100 students who have attended for 90% or more this term with a free lunch for early years students yesterday and the primary students today. If there is anything we ask you as parents to do, we strongly encourage you to have your children attending school regularly, as we know in most cases that those students who do attend regularly are making academic progress and those who do not continue to struggle with their learning. If your child this term fell below the 90% attendance rate we encourage you to make this a goal for them and seek support if required from the school to give your child every chance they need to being academically successful.

At today’s assembly led by the school leaders in a very creative manner, we acknowledged the efforts and hard work of a number of students across the school. Although only two students from each class and program were recognized with either a “pursue your personal best” or “progress to participate” certificate we are seeing many more students aiming to reach for these goals, growing in confidence and working hard to better themselves. As their role models both at school and at home, it is important that we continue to encourage our children to aim high and when there is failure or disappointment to help them deal with the setbacks and most importantly to see these stumbling blocks as opportunities to improve and grow.

I thank all parents and carers who attended the parent-teacher interviews. 120 interviews were held during the week and many of the teachers were appreciative of the feedback and opportunity to share with families information about their children’s learning, ways to help them further grow and their goals for the year.

To finish off the term we are holding our community eggs and bacon breakfast tomorrow. It will be excellent to have as many families come along and join us. Remember to bring a gold coin donation!

As per our last newsletter, next term sees us starting with the Monday early dismissal at 2.20pm, on all other days school will finish at 3.10pm.

Students will be dismissed tomorrow at 2:00 pm and school will resume on Monday 29th April.

We wish everyone a safe holiday and a Happy Easter during the break.

SAPSASA SWIMMING On Friday 29th of March, Aliesha and Clynton had the opportunity to represent Flinders View Primary School at the 2019 SAPSASA Swimming Championships-Country, in Adelaide, for Northern Districts.

Overall, the team had a successful day, with four swimmers making 6 finals between them, a medal won, and many personal bests achieved.

Aliesha competed in a 50m Freestyle event, knocking 4 seconds off her time to achieve a personal best. She then swam a leg of the 11 year old girls 4 x 50m Freestyle relay and swam faster yet again. What a great achievement Aliesha!

Clynton also swam in some Freestyle relays, swimming in the 10 year old boys 4 x 50m relay, then backing it up ten minutes later in the 12 year old boys 4 x 50m relay. He then went on to swim his first ever 50m Butterfly, which is quite the effort given he had just swum two relays. Clynton showed strong determination to finish this lap despite clearly being tired from his previous swims. Excellent persistence Clynton to not give up!

Well Done Clynton and Aliesha on your achievements.

SAPSASA FOOTBALL On Friday 5th April 2019 FVPS won games against Quorn (40-14) and APPS (35-23), but lost to SNPS (28-9) and Caritas (34-1). FVPS won its semi- final against St. Barbs but lost the division 2 grand final (26-0) to SNPS.

Our best and fairest was Tashawn Lindsay and runner up best and fairest was Nydell Sailor.

Adrian and Shaquille were solid in defence all day and rebounded strongly in the backlines. Josh battled hard all day and was excellent with his two way running. Nydell and Tyree put in strong performances in the midfield and tackled well. Ryan and Brayden G. provided run and carry on the wings. Tashawn played well in the ruck and up forward taking some good marks.

Thank you to all those students that tried their hardest in the blistery hot conditions and a big thank you to Ryan Struck for helping with the coaching and goal umpiring.

Players invited out to the Northern District training squad were - Tashawn Lindsay, Nydell Sailor, Ryan Munn, Adrian Williams, Shaquille Miller and Josh Saunders.

SAPSASA NETBALL Flinders View took 2 teams to compete in the Port Augusta SAPSASA Netball competition on Friday 5th of April at Port Augusta Central Complex.

Div 1, coached by Stacey Waterman was filled with some very talented netballers. Division 1 faced a challenging PAWPS team in their first game. They went down with their only loss for the day. This game well and truly warmed them up for coming out on top in all remaining games including the Grand Final. The opposition was no match for our defensive combination of Taeylah Coulthard and Kahmesha Wilton. The turnovers were consistently finished off with the scoring capacity of Mareeka Garrett and Kyra Mahomed in the goal ring. Our midcourt were strong and reliable with Tameylia Reid and Tia-Rose Dyson in the centre with Nyesha Doolan and Thu on the wings.

Div 2, coached by Lisa Bahr played 5 minor round games, winning 3 of them. Accurate shooting by Aaliyha Khan-Wilson, assisted by the speedy attacking work of Alliesha Kennedy put them on the front foot. Ziannha Brame controlled lots of the centre court with her brilliant vertical leap, stealing intercepts all over the court. She was supported by play-makers Kyeishah Wilton and Angel Lang. Kaleena Maslin, new to netball, displayed some strong catching hands and stole a few intercepts too. Shanae and Chevelle were our hard working defenders, showing relentless efforts to stop the opposition teams from scoring. The div 2 team finished in third positon after the minor rounds, gaining themselves a spot in the finals. They came up against a much bigger Willsden team, and were beaten in the semi-final, knocking them out of grand final contentions, placing them third for the competition. The girls had lots of fun and were supportive of each other throughout the day.

Kahmesha, Kyra, Taeylah, Tia-Rose, Ziannah, Tameyliah, Nyesha and Mareeka have been selected to trial for the Port Augusta SAPSASA representative team. We wish them the very best with the selection process.
