CreateAthon is a nonprofit organization dedicated to
spreading the pro bono movement through 24-hour creative
marathons. Blooming from the brainchild of one advertising
agency, Riggs Partners 16 years ago, CreateAthon has
transformed into an international movement with huge social
impacts. No longer just for agencies, we’ve grown to include
universities, corporations, and really, creative groups of all
kinds. CreateAthon recruits, supports, and connects creative
professionals and students in the communicating arts to
serve nonprofits through pro bono marathons.
But. we’ve worked with agencies around the globe for all 16
years. Agencies just like you - there is bound to be one in the
list to the right - and we’ve learned all the best ways to make a
CreateAthon event suit your agency.

Each agency or group holding a CreateAthon event
determines the best marketing and communications projects
they can provide. We have seen all kinds of strategic planning
and creative deliverables developed during CreateAthon.
We will advise you on the best type of work to produce and
projects that are best suited for a marathon model.
The Gills Creek Watershed Association is dedicated to improving the water quality of more than 70 miles of lakes, streams and rivers surrounding Columbia, SC. They asked the CreateAthon team to help increase membership and awareness among Columbia’s conservation committed. We updated the organization’s identity and created a poster.

A group of communicators who hold their own CreateAthon
event are given partnerships. These partnerships are available
on a first-come, first-served basis with the exclusivity of one
agency per market. All CreateAthon partners must sign a new
Letter of Agreement each year. Our goal to band together in a
movement of pro bono marathons to benefit thousands who
are in need across the nation.

• Partner agencies solicit applications from local 501(c)3 organizations.
• Each agency selects a group of projects based on recommended criteria and the capabilities of the individual agency.
• A project plan or creative brief is developed in the weeks before the event, learning about your nonprofit clients and what communications problems the need solved.
• These projects are then completed, start-to-finish in a 24-hour creative marathon.
